    Hey guys, this time around we are looking at how to smoke cheese.
    There is a lot of information out there on it and it peaked my interest as I like trying mew things.
    I gathered up what I could and then realized I didn't have a smoke tube. So, we solved that problem too for $1.
    Yup found a cheap alternative to a smoke tube that makes me question if I will ever actually use one.
    The end result is smoked cheese that I would proudly serve at my house or gift to friends and family.
    Thanks always for watching guys. Please comment below.

    Thank you. I'm definitely going to give this a try. I've been wanting to smoke cheese for a while. I have an offset smoker, so I think I'll have to block off the whole coming from the smoker box. Essentially just using the main body.

    • @RogersRigs
      @RogersRigs  Год назад

      @Preacher TV, thanks for watching! Yes you can block it off, or just put the smoke tube in the firebox. Either way it will work for sure. Enjoy!

    Great video, 2 thumbs up.!! I wonder if your strainer moat would run for 6 hours or more to cold smoke some Bacon.Any thoughts or experiences?Thanks in advance, keep them coming!

      @keithcarter4086 thanks for watching. I know I have gotten 4.5 - 5hrs at the most. But that doesn't mean you can't empty out the ash and restart. Thank you for the comment 😊

    Nice job , I'm sitting in Plattsburgh as I write this. 1 question though Did you say you froze the cheese first?

    • @RogersRigs
      @RogersRigs  Год назад

      @melstebbins6147, yes. I did that because it was a warm day and I didn't want to end up with fondue :-) but it is not necessary. If you keep your temps below 85-90 you should be fine. Biggest thing other than that is to keep the heat indirect. Which is why I had the smoke moat on the right and on the bottom, and the cheese on the top and to the left. Do that and you should be good. Great to hear from someone local to us! Thanks for watching!

    Great video and great smoker "moat"! I'm going to try smoking cheese and have already picked up a couple of strainers at our local Dollar store. I have a couple of questions... 1) Could water (or maybe ice?) in the water tray possibly help keep the temp low? 2) Have you ever tried smoking string cheese? I'm thinking about trying both of these possibilities.

    • @RogersRigs
      @RogersRigs  Год назад

      @Dan Sams, thanks for commenting. Ice may help, but not sure if in the water tray would work. My only concern with smoking cheese that way would be too much humidity, but thst said I have not experimented with that. Normally I just leave the smoker unlit and just run the smoke moat.
      I have not tried string cheese in the smoker yet, but great idea. I have eaten smoke mozzarella and it is delicious. Only thing I would say is being it is smaller pieces of cheese just to watch and make sue it doesn't start to melt.
      Let me know how it goes. I'm interested in seeing your results.
      Thanks for watching!

    Smoker moat sounds right, but might you also have a toroidal smoker tray depending upon the party you are entertaining?

    How long does the strainer last until you need to replace it, I wonder?

    • @RogersRigs
      @RogersRigs  9 месяцев назад +1

      @shaunjayes8842, thanks for watching. Well I have used the same one 4 or 5 times and its still in one piece. Been almost a year. But at some point I am sure I will have to go invest another $1 :-)

      @@RogersRigs Ha, ha yes.
      I was just interested rhetorically, in how long it lasts.
      Anyway, I tried this and it works like magic. Thanks for the tip, it really is brilliant.

    I tried your idea with wood chips and it didn't work. It would not sustain the smolder. I should be getting some pellets delivered today and I will try them and get back with you afterwards. Thanks for making the content.👍

    • @RogersRigs
      @RogersRigs  4 месяца назад

      Did it work?

    • @mrhalfstep
      @mrhalfstep 4 месяца назад

      It did indeed work. I also tried chips in a smoke tube and it sorta works, but pellets are better.
      I also noticed, during all this messin' around, that the mesquite chips that I've always used in the past has much more flavor and aroma (different, as well)than the mesquite pellets. Are pellets pure wood made from a single species of tree or is it a blend that just includes SOME of the fragrant wood? Mesquite CHIPS are very red in color, but all the pellet types that I bought kinda look the same and none are reddish at all.
      Sorry I didn't post back sooner.@@RogersRigs

    CLEAN THE GRILL GRATES before putting cheese on them. Those nasty greasy lines are gross.
