These clips are going on here as I am drafting a page on my website comparing the novel with the two film versions, which will be here when finished, which should be later today: www.british60scinema.net/brighton-rock-book-and-films/
I very much enjoyed your article Paul. It has been some time since l saw either of the two films, but it is know surprise that I prefer the original. However I agree that there is nothing wrong with remakes as a younger audience would probably prefer them. I look forward to watching the,1947 version again very soon. There is much to be admired in this film l particularly remember the striking sence of place, the crowds the train station the sea front, back streets and bars , the director created a real atmosphere of a sunny bank holiday weekend at a British seaside resort I will have to check out your other posts. Cheers. Mike.
I've never watched the entire Film but I watched a fascinating Documentary about it. What immediately overwhelmed me was how terrifying Richard Attenborough is in this Film!! Also the later Film Mona Lisa' Climax must have been influenced by this terrifying Chiller!
A third rate comedy. Attenborough's performance amateurish, pretending to be a gangster. The least convincing performance I have ever seen in any film. I have seen better performances by kids in a school playground pretending to be gangsters.
Loved Richard's suit. Bet he spared no expense.
It's interesting to see Attenborough 1) this young and 2) playing such a scary character.
Agreed. I rate this film above the third man in fact :)
Did you watch him in 10 Rillington place?
@@jameshogan6142 I haven't. I'll have to look into it.
Still hoping this film appears on the 'Tailking Pictures' channel soon. Marvellous film.

Love the way you announce like it’s words that mean something lol 😂
Worthless take
Such a throw away comment, but thanks for posting 👍
I had read the book which I thought was great but this film somehow never quite captured the essence of the Graham Greene novel.
