If you want to see his greatest performance, watch "Chicago Calling!' This was Duryea's personal favorite picture and the one he was most proud of. His performance is breathtaking. I found it on Amazon and it is truly a treasure.
I am very glad to see and read how many fans there are of actor Dan Duryea and after all these many years!! His acting was outstanding and his talent has stood the test of time as can be read by all of the viewers of his great movies!!!
Dan Duryea is such a character. I bet he was a riot in real life. He can get the dumbest expression, or play such a smart ass. He can be charming...or completely evil. Unlike many of his generation, he didnt just play himself. He was definitely a Total actor. One of my favorites.
Ziblot.... Dan Duryea was great! In real life he was a very happily married man with about four children and was married to the same woman all his life! That is something for Hollywood! Devoted husband and father!
Actually I'm supposed to be sewing. When I clicked on YT I saw Dan Duryea's pic and that was that. He is one of my favorite actors. This was an attention grabbing story with marvelous acting. Thanks for posting.
I hope you were able to eventually get your sewing done. I can't blame you for being distracted by this excellent episode and the exceptional acting of Dan & Beverly.
A global shout out to PizzaFlix. A GREAT channel for those of us who lived through Classic TV and movies--and for those who came after us who are open to them.
Dan Duryea - a great character actor, much under-rated. Recently I've watched him (again!) in 'The Burglar', 'Manhandled' and 'Walk A Tightrope'. He always gave such memorable performances. He had that 'certain something' which made him stand out in his numerous roles, usually as a scheming, manipulative, slightly sleazy con-man/criminal. I'd not seen this before - very enjoyable. Thanks for posting this.
Agree 100%. My favourite of his performances is in "Too Late for Tears" (1949). I'm a film noir fan.... but a Film Noir without Dan Duryea is incomplete for me. I mention the name "Dan Duryea" to friends and no-one knows who I'm talking about.... his name should be as familiar as "Humphrey Bogart" IMHO.
Don’t miss him in The Last Wagon. I’ve watched that movie at least 4 or 5 times and I’ll watch it more times. That scene where he’s going to kiss the girl is something else. I just want to tell him to go ahead and kiss her. The wait is killing me. 😂😂😂😂 That movie made me Dan Duryea fan forever and I watch every movie that I can, that he has , even a bit part in.
Love Dan. Dan and my grandfather were first cousins. Dan's dad Sam and my great grandmother, May Duryea were brother and sister. Used to love watching his movies. Unfortunately he passed in 1968 and his Obit was buried on page 3 or 4 because Robert Kennedy was killed the same day.
Oh my gosh that is unbearably cool, your daddy being Dan Duryea's first cousin, your great grandmother and his father being brother and sister. That's a shame about him dying at the same time B. Kennedy was shot, so that it went less noticed than it should have.
It’s amazing how two actors can hold you spellbound and involved with no special effects, no color and over the top sex scenes. Just great writing and professional abilities. Thanks so much for another entertaining upload🎥
Over the top sex scenes don't rivet audiences as much as movie makers seem to think. Once we're situated comfortably in front of our TVs, those repetitive copycat scenes are remote-click-magnets like nothing else in the world of entertainment. Blech! The sounds, that's what I can't grab the remote fast enough to zap.
What a sweet ending! Great to see so much appreciation for Dan Duryea, he had a super special quality-- hard to take your eyes off him and not hang on his every word. Like Glen Ford, he always looks more at ease than the others... as though his clothes are his own, his words and his movements. Fascinating! My favorites are Winchester 73, a western, and One Way Street, a noir. All his westerns and noirs are really good. Thanks Pizza Flix!
You certainly have very good taste. Dan is wonderful in both Scarlet Street and Woman in the Window, both of which co-starred Joan Bennett and Eddie G Robinson (and both of which were directed by Fritz Lang).
I am such a big fan of both Dan Duryea and Beverly Garland. Dan Duryea is particularly inspirational for me because he was something else before he became an actor and gave it up to pursue his true love in life which was acting... I love people who have the courage to do that...even if it's later in life...
Dan Duryea....with one slight half- smile, one faint grimace, a hint of a scowl, he stands out as totally watchable, never less than interesting, often sinister, always compelling. This little film was outside of his remit but oddly absorbing.
I love this man, he was such a kick ass actor, one movie of him that gets a bad rap that I absolutely love is 36 hours, you feel his pain and how scared he is, the part where he first meets the lady in her house without giving anything away is pure Gold, what a performance.
You mention the actor " Dan Duryea" and you talk about such a fine professional actor from start to finish! He could play any part that was given to him with such believable finesh!! One of the great quality actors of his day!!!
Dan Duryea, what a great actor... his family said he was the best dad and husband.. he led a quiet home life.. and passed at age.61 .way too young to leave..
So true. Well said and well put. Dan was a heavy smoker and lung cancer claimed his life. He left us much too soon. One of my all time fave actors. Great at playing nogoodniks.....but as you stated, he was a quiet homebody offscreen who was devoted to his wife and two sons.
I just found out why Duryea is special he makes male pain visible - he is never happy doing bad things - no he is disgusted and his own judge - only Glenn Ford had this quality 👌🏼
I find she looks older than 29 and not terribly much younger than Duryea, who doesn't to me look older than 48, because I mean that's almost 50. I think he looks real good. Quite the young whipper-snapper. :o) But there is a gap all right, a trust gap that should be unbridgeable for him, and the show does indeed do a great job of having these mismatched kids (though perfectly matched in many ways too) become in love. She was 12 and he was 20 when it all happened. That's 8 years difference, common. My sister is 8 years older than her current marital catch. Better when it's the guy, I can attest.
I am a big BG fan. She just seemed to take on roles with no fuss. She would play anything from a lady of the evening to a lady of the house. And she was one of the few women who got better looking as she got older. Doris Day and Bea Arthur were two others.

Right On ! I love Dan Duryea. Always wonderful on both the small & big screens ! And always liked Beverly Garland. Very pretty and very talented !
Dan Duryea is one of the very best Actors in Hollywood History!
I have spent many hours this summer watching these classic movies! The films today are no match for these old ones. Thanks.
Well said and well put ! I'd rather watch this vintage stuff than most of what's produced today.
An inspiring 25 minutes of Geniuses at work.
Dan Duryea and Beverly Garland are better actors than most living today.
As I do when I take off my hat, you make a good point !

Could not agree more! He's one of my all time faves. Great in everything he appeared in.
Isnt it awesome that back in the past, writers and actors could tell the whole story in half an hour? I love stuff from the 50's!
Absolutely agree. I love the settings, clothing, old cars, the housing decor etc. I think the scripts were excellent without any repulsive dialogue.

Indeed. B. Garland is terrific in Roger Corman's early horror classic (1957) "Not of this Earth."
