Dick Powell seems to be channelling Rick Blaine a little bit but carries it off with his suave charm. Good to see the wonderful Alan Mowbray as well. Jack Benny is his usual marvellous self. Love these 4 Star Playhouse productions!
They don't make tv shows like this anymore because late-stage hyper-capitalism has destroyed most of human culture. The human being and human culture were identified as threats to corporate profits. So they had to be destroyed. Sorry to break it to you.
Really enjoy Dick Powell... everything he did . Something tells me his acting wasn't always acting, ratheri it was truly who this guy down deep could be..... COOL,
TY so much for the upload, the brilliant Dick Powell, one of my favorite actors , splendid performances from Alan Mowbray & Jack Benny too, with impeccable timing & delivery of some wonderful lines, great episode. -)
#howiedoing2day Sweetie I watched this when I was lil girl 1st time since adult a Instagram Butterflydlights#myway a friend mentioned this but not a comment on my pic lol too #funninLol 😍
I took some of the audio from this and put it into my new House tune which is now up on bandcamp. Thank you for the restoration, the credit has been put into the release.
if anyone is interested. these are from 4 Star Playhouse and the made about 8 episodes featuring this character. it went on to have it's own series called "Dante" but with a different cast. The episode above is the 1st story I believe.
Duck Powell is so quick. He loves the back and forth with words. It's verbal swordfighting. Definitely an alpha male. Smoked four packs of cigarettes a day.
You know I thought that was Mr.Benny....not by the look or by the voice( always thought he had glasses).....but mostly the 5 nickels for the 25 cents piece....😂
Originally created by Blake Edwards for the anthology series Four Star Playhouse, eight episodes were produced by and starred Dick Powell between 1953~1955. The show was revisited in 1960 by producer Dick Powell as an actual TV series called "Dante," but this time starred Howard Duff and set in San Francisco instead of Los Angeles.
How people respect themselfs. Dress nice .Men looks like man , women like a women. Today all those tattoos on women , one size clothes , all look a like ...disqusting
THIS IS AN EMERGENCY STATEMENT FROM ME, "X X WILLIAMSON". i APOLOGIZE TO THE CHANNEL: I have lived nearly 77 years as a schizophrenic of the paranoid type. I reason I was born in the first place due to at least one murder of at least one woman and due to G-d's infinite Justice. If I am to be saved it will be due to his infinite Mercy. I have and do live alone and mostly, now, would like to continue thus. If I ever get my own channel working I will not make anymore rude interruptions of other folks videos. 20190720.0738L

*the cherry on top of the sundae was Jack Benny! Loved it!*
Beautiful...Dick Powell and Jack Benny, too! Such smart writing and great timing!! Why don't they make great tv like this anymore? 😭
Because, making quality TV shows takes effort.
sadly the Dick Powells and Jack Bennys just don't exist today. At least we have this!
@@VomitPinata You are right. Both irreplaceable.

The one-liners are great! Smart writing! Thanks for uploading!!!
The dialogues are exquisite.
Really enjoy Dick Powell... everything he did . Something tells me his acting wasn't always acting, ratheri it was truly who this guy down deep could be..... COOL,
that sardonic delivery style and the wry humor make wonderful entertainment and a Jack Benny cameo for even more fun
I was laughing even before Jack opened his mouth. That's what real comedians can do to you.
Very good,
Dick Powell , he always plays a good show, whether it's
Richard Diamond or Sam Spade.
This one didn't take long before I expected to see two guys walking into the night fog at the end. Very enjoyable.
The banter these guys have!😊

A very satisfying drama/comedy, much better than todays series. They should have made a series of it.
Ive never saw nor heard of this.. Thanks for allowing us to see it

That stunning beauty from the Twilight Zone! "Will the real Martian please stand up?" Another treat!
WOW He sure was something!! I remember so well. Thanks for posting this
Excellent program. Loved the surprise nickel guest .
thanks for sharing, good stuff, more quality in that 24 minutes than a years worth of hollywood blockbuster tripe nowdays
The cameo with Jack Benny is hilarious!
“Five nickels please. It’s alright, you can bite it.”
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Sadly, the cameo was all too brief. Still, never look a gift horse ....
❤I like this movie so much 🎬📽❣❤
I couldn't figure out where I had seen Jean Willes before, and then I realized it was the Twilight Zone.
The episode in the diner with the aliens.
Jean Willes was a knock-out, I mean "WOW!" what a doll 😍
EXCELLENT SHOW!
thank you very much send is.
Duck Powell is so quick. He loves the back and forth with words. It's verbal swordfighting.
Definitely an alpha male. Smoked four packs of cigarettes a day.
Those 4 packs a day took him out, at age 58, unfortunately.
Perfect!
You know I thought that was Mr.Benny....not by the look or by the voice( always thought he had glasses).....but mostly the 5 nickels for the 25 cents piece....😂
Thank You
Herb Vigran is another underrated actor!
Wish their more of these kind of shows available loved lovejoy doing Johnny dollar
8:12 Jack Benny cameo: "Five nickels please." Known for how tight he is, Benny had his own half hour show every Sunday night
The great Mr. Benny made a career out of pretending to be tight. That, and impersonating Jascha Heifitz.
Mrs. Sims played the nurse in the beginning of Invasion of The Body Snatchers.
Ah, Godfrey's friend in My Man Godfrey....nice touch.
@8:50 , Jack Benny 'I'd rather go where there's no limits',,,, forever jack... thanks pizza , classic....
Jean Willes had a lot of Ava Gardner about her
alan mowbray - always a pleasure. dick powell, too - so good in his darker side - quite a contrast from his musical days. light-hearted fun
0:27 I can’t remember his name offhand, but this actor played Mrs. Trumbull’s nephew in an episode of “I Love Lucy”.
Jack benny❤❤
Cooper got enough to feed a Doberman . He’s eating more than I am .
LOL Jack Benny always good.
Anyone know if you can purchase these Dick Powell tv series? Thanks 😊
Oh yes I just discovered few years ago.
⭐️🤗🤗🤗⭐️💜💛💚⭐️🤗🤗🤗⭐️
L O V E the Jack Benny walk thru. LOLOLOL
i have always loved how jack benny could smell money and spend none
Benny is my X husband’s role model.
X husband
Jack Benny!
Thank you do you have any more with Dick Powell??

Cameo by Jack Benny?
I spotted right away!

👍🚀
Thanks for the post! Was this a tv show?

I want more pizza.
"a little less talk and a little more action please" Sounds like that line was stolen for a song.
How people respect themselfs. Dress nice .Men looks like man , women like a women. Today all those tattoos on women , one size clothes , all look a like ...disqusting
I got hooked watching right away. Jack Benny was funny without being funny.
Funny, great plot, sexy men and lovely women. What a entertainment should be about. 💕
Waterloo Babycakes
Don’t try to hurt him
Don’t try to stop US
Nothing against the bartender- I like him fine, but I keep thinking Edward Brophy would'a been perfect!

Crime and humour just don't work together
Hi Neil, I’ve always thought Powell pulled it off in these Dante episodes. 🍕
I love the style and clothes of that era, but her dress is ugly! It doesn't even fit right. She must've pissed off the wardrobe person...
Was that supposed to be good? Boy, was that lousy or was that supposed to be the genre?
Anyway it stunk.
What? You got something against great writing?
