      Dude, I'm happy when someone mentions GoG. I'm starting to use it when ever I can. I have 1017 games on Steam, and I care about my profile there, a lot. CS was the reason why I got into it. It's what I mainly use, but now that I'm in my 20s, and I started to understand the difference between owing a game and having a license to play it, and how losing access to a game feels like, I really started to hope that GoG gets more popular, so more games can end up there, and we can stop dealing with things like Denuvo. You have no idea how much I hate when games use that DRM.
      For those who are quick to call someone "pirate" for not liking Denuvo: no, I don't like pirating games, unless I need to, like with Deadpool (the alternative was paying $200 for a key. Money that doesn't go to the devs anyways, just like when you buy used games on consoles), and pirates buy offline activations for Denuvo games paying like $1 or $2 anyways, so... know that those who complain about Denuvo are rarely salty pirates who didn't want to pay full price. I don't like any intrusive things on my PC, specially when they cause stutters and increase loading times (it doubles the time it takes to load anything) in games. I like feeling like I can own the game and do what ever I want with it (notice the word "feel". What I mean is Denuvo is a constant reminder that you don't own it). I don't like having to open a game that has Denuvo on my Steam Deck each time I have to travel before I get in the car (unless I can connect to the Internet using my phone later, which is not always an option), and I don't like the idea of you, possibly, losing access to a game you paid for.

      They could dev for an unique Windows Series machine (based on the series X carac with a classic apu hardware equivalent or further but with full TDP potential and 16Gb ram memory minimum. A laptop config in a Xbox series X case.) and they could port much easily to other configs.
      This hardware could be the lead for middle range pc gaming. Windows series still stays Windows, even with an extralite version inside, with full compatibility for some softwares or apps maybe (that they didn't achieve with Windows mobile on Nokia systems. Best OS in my mind)

      It should keep the same specialised hardware and the low prices. The unique to the xbox hardware would incentivize the devs to optimize for it, cuz like 30% of the pc gamers would now be shifting towards a system that has a uniform set of specs in each and every unit. Many budget pc gamers would happily buy something like that if it does run windows.
      The xbox wont be changing anything, it would just bring a whole lot of pc gamers to it's corner, just by enabling windows on it. Games available on steam and other 3rd party stores would defo optimize themselves in hopes of higher sales.

    I dont think Phill was talking about emulating PC games on the XBOX like was suggested by OLieMack, but more likely have a native version of the game for sale on other store fronts. LIke for instance you have the Windows version, the Apple or the Linux version of the game on Steam, they could add the XBOX version of the game, and when you open your steam client on the XBOX, it would show the games on your library for that platform.

    if the Xbox is already running pc based hardware and is already running a version of windows i don't see how this can be a bad idea. by pc standards the Xbox series still has better hardware then a whole lot of pc's that are currently playing these games on pc right now. I don't see how they cannot manage to adapt the API to run these pc games on the Xbox with lower settings and still have a great playable game. Not saying there are not going to be programing hurdles but this may be closer to reality than people might think. comparing the specs of the steam deck to the series x just shows that it is possible. if games can get to a playable state on the steam deck, then there is no reason it cant be done better on the xbox with it's superior hardware

    • @gothpunkboy89
      @gothpunkboy89 4 месяца назад +2

      @gamble777888 I question it. Because PC builds are designed with separate RAM pools. Unless the games are updated, there will be bottlenecks. Or the game will have to run at much lower resolution and settings, then a true console port would.
      And older games would have a lot of compatability isssues. Getting Fallout 2 to play on a modern PC requires a lot of mods.
      At some point it isn't going to be a console they are selling. Just a pre build PC. And with a reduced store cut they can't supplement income so it will cost more.

    • @TheMarjen96
      @TheMarjen96 4 месяца назад +1

      @@gothpunkboy89 Steam Deck only has one unified set of RAM (16 GB). So does every computer that uses only the integrated GPU on the SOC. Compare the Steam Deck side by side with the specs of the series X and S and you will see that the Xbox has more CPU cores and a more powerful GPU then the steam deck (series S does have less RAM though). and people love the steam deck. Will the Xbox be able to run these games at high settings? most likely not, but will definitely be playable. right now the most used GPU on steam is the RTX 3060. A mid-range GPU. We as gamers get too caught up in max specs when the majority of people do not play on balls to the wall cutting edge PC builds. For the most part that is a small niche of the PC gamer world that gets lots of coverage by RUclips review channels when it actually reflects a small majority. I think the gaming industry is at a crossroads where the line in the sand between what is a console and a PC are just about gone. it is just a matter of excepting it and seeing who will make the first move.

    • @gothpunkboy89
      @gothpunkboy89 4 месяца назад

      @@TheMarjen96 Yes and integrated GPU's are terrible. If I tried to play Spiderman 2018 on my laptop it would run at 1 frame a minute even at low settings. Even pretty simple games like Moving Out on low can run terribly on them.
      Let me ask you this. Why do PC games need 16 GB of RAM and another 8 GB of VRAM to run games? Why do you need GPUs with their own VRAM to play games instead of just using pure system RAM?
      This is the issue with consoles. They are developed with a unified RAM system that is shared between CPU and GPU. Thus ports for those systems have to be tailor made to address these system requirements to get the performance out of them that they do.
      Not to mention any custom software being used. If the Series X has a custom hardware decompression and that doesn't exist on the PC side. That means the game will not know to use it. Which will force all the decompression on the CPU. Which will tank performance. Unless the game is very specifically updated to add these in.
      If I want to play Fallout 2 on the Series X then how do they deal with compatibility issues? Considering there needs to be mods to even allow it to play on modern day PCs.
      If I buy CS:GO do I have to pay MS to play online with Steam servers? How would that work? One of the big things about PC is free online play. If I can get every game the Xbox store offers on Steam and I can play games online for free why would anyone use the Xbox store?
      If no one has any reason to use the Xbox store then how does MS supplement the production costs though online subscriptions and cut of sales from their store front? Wouldn't this lead to hardware costs increasing?
      At what point does it just become a prebuild PC with the Xbox logo slapped on it?

    • @TheMarjen96
      @TheMarjen96 4 месяца назад

      @gothpunkboy89 I in no way think that this is going to a the best way to experience these games. Just another way to play.
      As far as the laptop comparison with integrated gpu it doesn't compare. As far as I know there are no SOCs that have the amount of CUs as the steam deck or ps5 and xbox. By comparison the steam deck is roughly equivalent to a gtx 1050 and the Xbox series X is roughly equivalent to a RTX 2070. That is still squarely in the realm of playing pc games. It's specs are aging for sure but it does pose a very interesting prospect.

Xbox has forgotten that it’s about games sells system.
    As DF said ram issue is going be issue. Specially for newer/next gen games. Consider pc port use both system ram and Video ram. As they said older pc games could be playable. But windows is BLOATWARE. Steam deck /steam os is proof Linux better for gaming. Not windows.

Newer gpu are still insanely priced. New 4080 is $1800+ atm lol. (Canadian) and 4070 isn’t much cheaper. Consider both still cut down at high primer price. Look at getting 6800xt/6900xt or 6950xt. They anywhere $900+ Canadian or more. 3090. Lol $2200 to $2500. Wtf more then new 4080 wtf
      And yeah I loved Xbox 360/ps3 days. But ms has royally screwed up Xbox brand. My sis had Xbox one s (red gears of war one) that ex bf bought for her. She never used it. End up selling so she could pay bills. We still game on ps5 though. But yeah I don’t care what physical media is, just as long it last. I like switch cartage. Both Sony or ms could easily 128+ Gb ones put games on. Disc/Blu ray maybe cheaper. But disc player still takes up a lot room on console. Disc can be scratch and they can fade after many years. All disc games now all install to SDD anyways. I just think game on cartage and/or USB thumb drive are small. Size isn’t issue for them. And they can even set for read only and encrypted. Both Sony/Ms could even let us make backup onto USB thumb drive or cartage.
      They could let set original cartage or ubs thumb drive in safe place. Then while online. It lets us make 1 backup copy of any game, with the latest patches already installed. Steam let’s us make backup. Don’t know why Sony/ms.

I can't imagine it would be that hard to get actual Windows games running on it IF it's something Microsoft wanted to do. It could be something like a SteamDeck where there would be games certified to work with the Series X console. This would have many benefits, for example, being able to play all the Playstation PC ports, which would be kinda awkward for Sony, but it's a thing that could totally be done. Do I think Microsoft would do it? No, not really as it would push developers away from directly supporting the Series consoles as they would just argue that the Steam version is good enough, but it's an interesting idea.

Support for any of those clients will eventually die down and by then, existing active users will have to resort to jailbreak their consoles and that will inevitably bring forth the piracy topic again. I just want to play Helldivers 2 without buying a PS5 or a new PC. It plays ok on my SteamDeck, even connected to an external monitor, but I want to enjoy it on a big TV. If they put steam on my series X, I'd be so happy!

    I just don't see the business model behind this. The only way this could be advantages is if Sony and Nintendo could be moved to do the same and Xbox could have a store/app on their consoles. I think these remarks are a longterm chess move in this direction. Maybe that's a bit dark but I can't make much sense of it any other way. In the good times you can sometimes forget how heartless corperates can be and I'm not convinced at all that Microsoft has our best interests at heart, ultimately. As they said themselves, they're in the unique position to spend the competitors out of business. That might not be what Phil Spencer has in mind but I have no doubt there's corporates at Microsoft trying to mess with Xbox all the time.
    And they still need to have the games to make that work. Let's not forget that that's what this business is all about and that's where Xbox has failed most of all, especially compared to Nintendo and Sony. Now they've bought two huge game publishers (well one huge and one humongous) while they were on the decline. Or at least on a downward slope. Microsoft needs to get Zenimax and Activision Blizzard back to running at their full potential first. And Microsoft has a spotty record when it comes to running studio's.
    I personally think Microsoft needs to sit tight for a while longer with Xbox and stay the course. Get some amazing games out.

    It would be nice if it we are able to change setting with consoles, like we do with PC. Leave it up to the consumer who pays a lot of money to actually do what they want with their console. I'm talking about graphic settings. Also if we change it to 1440p or 1080p is there any performance gains ? I mostly game in 1440p anyways on my PC.

    I think JUST having alternative Stores wouldn't really move the needle all that much. I think instead of making a console os with a few fewer locks in place, Microsoft should make a more polished opinionated PC OS for controller use that without many hoops allows you to use your Xbox as a PC and do PC things like photo editing, writing emails, browse the web, ...

    The thing that doesn't make sense about the Xbox getting the other stores, is, what would Microsoft's endgame be there? Historically the console is the one thing they don't get money from, usually sold at a loss, even. If people are using other storefronts, and already have a catalog there, it completely nerfs the value proposition from Game Pass. How is Microsoft getting anything out of it?

      This is what I don’t understand, the goal has never been to sell consoles. It’s been to sell games. The consoles were just an easy way to get people to buy those games. How does MS benefit if people buy a series console and load up their steam or gog library to play those games on it?

    • @lirfrank
      @lirfrank 4 месяца назад +1

      @@ContrastCopy Because the more stores you have access to, the more deals you're likely to find.
      I often cross reference between PS, Switch, Xbox and PC to see where the best deal is on a particular game at that moment. Game Pass is less enticing if you find the game you wanna play for 3 bucks on Steam or they gave it to you for free on EGS two years ago.

      @@JBaughb They would make money from the consoles which are sold and also make money from their games being sold on other stores. Also they will probably strike deals with Valve and Epic for games. Its that simple and Valve and Epic would do the same. Its that simple.

    So they’re basically “Surfacing” the Xbox. The Microsoft surface line of laptops tablets and desktops as a complement to the PC hardware market or a “choice simplifier” if you will. The Xbox is going to simply be the prebuilt gaming PC box.
    It’s not a bad idea. But it will essentially remove the idea of fixed targeted hardware for developers in a time when developers seem to still be okay, or even demanding hardware to be fixed (some devs questioning the worthiness of the PS5 pro for example)

    I'm genuinely curious to know about the piracy/jailbreaking scene on that sort of a hybrid.
    Would it be as easy to run a game on it as it is on a windows pc by getting a simple cracked version from a shady website, or would games be as hard to pirate as they are to do so on the current jailbreak-proof xbox architecture?

      I have always had a mid/high-end gaming PC as well as the latest Xbox console, and I can say without hesitation that when given the choice, I almost always opt to play on my Xbox instead of the PC. I have more than a handful of reasons for this, but without getting into them, I'll just say that having more stores and games ported from PC would greatly appeal to me. I imagine Epic, etc, would be interested in extending the reach of their stores to console users, but they would of course need to put in the time to port the games over.
