What do you think of the changes so far? How will this impact your commute? Do you visit the waterfront often?
Thanks! Moved away from Seattle in 2019 shortly after the viaduct came down and I haven’t been back since. It’s great to see all the progress!
You're welcome. Hope you come back to visit soon.
Thanks, loved to see your video. I was surprised to see the bike rack you rode past at Pier 62, since that style of bike rack has been discouraged for more than 30 years. It's really designed for bikes of the 1970s and has trouble accommodating today's city bikes. heavier e-bikes and cargo bikes, especially bikes with fatter tires. Usually the racks today let a bike of any size or shape sidle up to the side of some kind of steel "looped" bar of some kind to lock up to. Maybe someone threw that out there as some kind of afterthought?
Any sort of update ride like this is really helpful!
Appreciate the comment and don't worry it's going to keep coming! These videos are fun and relatively easier for me to make too :)
On a Weekend it is too crowded to cycle along that section of the waterfront; I move over to the road as the traffic is dense and slow enough to go with the flow. I am looking forward to seeing the final front.
That makes sense! Me too!
I think it will be awesome when completed. Nice video, Hanock.
Love it! Huge win for everyone in the city. Please make another vid when it's complete!
Will do for sure! Really looking forward to it
I really want that bike lane to work out, but I'm so worried it will be too tiny or get flooded with tourists 😬 hope it works out!
Yeah, the dynamic with West Seattle / commuters is going to be pretty hectic but nonetheless I'm excited for a more pedestrian/rolling friendly waterfront.
Seattle has improved a lot over the past several decades, and is still improving, but it's still a long way behind Vancouver IMHO, and I think always will be. What's your opinion?
Cities can definitely change! Reading about what's happening in Paris around bicycles is pretty cool. Vancouver has a couple things going into it's favor: one of which is it's extremely grid-like implementation allowing for greenways to flourish all through the city and the other is probably what is known as 'Vancouverism" in terms of it's urban planning. Even with that it's not perfect though! There's still bike lanes getting taken out and lots of Canadians would consider Montreal to be the true biking city of the North.
@@BestSideCycling perhaps Francophiles are more pro-cycling than Anglophiles? Vive la difference! (Obviously true re: France! 😀)
Too many people for me to enjoy riding my bicycle along the downtown waterfront.
A lot of bike lanes are under construction and couldn't be rode in the video. I do expect this area to become even more tourist-y.
I'm pretty worried about that area getting so many tourist that they start to walk on the bike lane. Hope I'm wrong.
It's a bit off-topic, but are you going to make any content regarding the virtual abandonment of the initially proposed "Bike Bellevue" plan? I'm not a Bellevue resident, but I thought it was unfortunate how such a decent plan is now going down the drain.
Thanks for raising this up. I've been following and advocating for Bike Bellevue since it's inception in person so it's definitely something I care about. My thoughts about raising it on this channel would probably be if there's clear action this community can take in a positive way. I'd say the project right now has basically been reset some, I'd want to see where this goes before lasering our focus if that makes sense!
I’ve ridden there on non-sunny weekdays in the northbound direction and it’s ok. On a sunny day, forget it - too many wanderers. Gotta say I don’t have much confidence in the future bike facilities in that area 😢.
All that space and cyclists are still given a pittance. It's the planners have learned nothing over the last 40 years, amazing. They didn't even have to go far for inspiration; look at the East Lake Sammamish Trail! It's so nice and wide... Can't wait to keep NOT riding along the waterfront.
I'm worried on that front as well; even with a dedicated cycle path unless there is a definite boundary for pedestrians the tendency appears to be to utilize the cycle path as well and it does get really crowded down there on Summer weekends. I'll see how I feel about using the route when it's finished.
Seattle has always been 3 steps forward, 2 steps back.
Is there a preferred detour to AVOID this crowded section of the Elliott Bay Trail?
Most commonly probably just 2nd avenue works best all the way from Yesler Way to Broad street.
@@BestSideCycling Thanks!
