What people forget about Crosby is how concussions changed his career path. He was doing what McDavid is doing now through the first 6 seasons. I've done a study analysis and found that on average, the greatest players peak in their 6th season. McDavid just had his greatest statistical year in year 6. Crosby in year 6 was on pace for 60+ goals when he had 32 goals in just 41 games and then the Steckel concussion happened which ended his year. You have to remember the year before that he had 51 goals. He was ascending and reaching a new level. By age 24 he had already won everything there was to win in hockey (Cup, Olympic Gold, World Hockey gold, Art, Hart, Lester B., Mark Messier Award, Rocket trophy....since his concussions, he's never scored 50 again, and only had 2 more 100 point seasons the rest of his career. Clearly even though he has still been the best player in the NHL, he was doing that at only 80-85% peak. He's had to change his game to protect his health from getting anymore concussions. That's why he's remarkable because even a diminished Crosby was still the best player in the game and won 2 more cups, a bunch of hardware, and does everything offensive and defensive along with all the intangibles.
Carolina is an amazing team with a really good shot at winning the Cup. Nashville is a mess of a team that barely made the playoffs. And that's why Carolina getting a shutout isn't news.
@@stellaroj McDavid is better than pretty much everyone he plays against, so him doing something crazy to beat them isn't news. Cause that makes sense. 1. A shutout against any NHL team, especially in the playoffs, is impressive. (Plus Ned faced more shots than Sarros) 2. I believe Nashville's PP% during the regular season was 17 point something. So we made them do worse than they should've based on the regular season (1 out of 7 is 14.3% (I know it's not a perfect predictor)). Once again, killing 7/7 penalties against a playoff capable NHL team is still impressive.
