    Hello! Can you tell me, if I wanted to double the size of the cast on, and cast on 84 stitches (42 x 2), would that work, or would I have to do a different number to accommodate the increases and still end up , as I decrease, with three (3) stitches at the end of each row, or do I have to start off with an odd number of stitches? I tried to just double the cast on, but it doesn’t work out once I start to increase and decrease. In other words, when I do my first increase row based on the original instruction requiring cast on of 42, as per instructions, I end up with 63 stitches, which is an odd number (63) but when I try to double the cast on stitches to 84, and attempt the increases, the math changes, of course. And so attempting to double the original cast on to 84, once I do the increases, I end up with an even number (126), which screws up the math and I end up with six stitches left at the end of each row instead of three. Simply put, I would just like to double the circumference of the cast on row to accommodate the size I need, but I am doing something wrong. Help if you can. Thank you.

      @@agemoth Hi Lorraine thank you for trying to answer my question, but I don’t think I made myself clear with the question. She said at the start of the video that both 8mm and 10mm needles should be used, but didn’t specify which one for the gauge. But as the main body is done using 10mm needles in stockinette stitch, common sense just told me to do the gauge with the larger needles, which came out perfect. Thank you anyway.

    Thank you for the video but I have a question. i wanted to knit my granddaughter a beret but I wasnt sure of the measurements. I didnt mentioned I would like to know how many stitches I would need she is two years old.

    • @agemoth
      @agemoth 2 года назад

      Knit a little square in your chosen yarn, do about 10 stitches in stockinette stitch, measure and count how many stitches you have for a 10 cm or 4 inch width, then measure the child's head circumference, you should then be able to work out how many stitches to cast on to make the required cm or inches circumference. Use a calculator if your maths is poor like mine.

    Could I make it with circular needles? In that case all the rows will be knit rows? and I will just follow the decreases the way you did. Will that work? Or do I need to do it with strait needles?

      The increases come at the beginning rows after the hat band.
      Then on to the end we are decreasing all the way to the top of the hat.
