Brutal how in the last frame of the “Raiders of the Lost Ark” scene you actually see a bit of Kane’s eyeball being exposed. There’s a full extended version of the melting scene online which also shows the eyeball melting into the socket. Disturbing to know this scene could have gotten a lot darker and traumatising (especially to children watching the show) if they ended up using it, though the reason it was probably cut down was because of censorship. It still is an interesting death for a character in Doctor Who of all things….
Yeah certinally would have been cut for censorship, I know they ran into similar situations with the plastic/jelly chair in Terror o.t. Autons and the entire glass dalek scene in Revelation.
@@decimatorentertainmentstud8523 Raider's of the Lost Ark reference. The special effect used for Kane's suicide was the same used for the death of Major Toht at the hands of God's Angels at the film's climax, the main difference being that for Dr Who they omitted the layer of red wax as they couldn't get away with the same level of bloody gore as in Raiders.
I know. They don’t do effects this way anymore, to the detriment of the film industry, I think. Also, this isn’t just an 80s BBC budget. It’s a BBC budget that hadn’t been adjusted for inflation in quite some time.
the Kane death scene really messed me up as a kid!! but it wasn't from this episode, no, they just randomly showed that scene as part of '30 Years inside the TARDIS' from 1993 after a fan she was talking about how frightening some scenes were in DW.
Isn't it amazing what REAL Special FX techs can do with a wax face mold with a dollop of latex paint, a Yorick skull with a foam rubber tongue and musculature, a bright light, and a blow dryer? Why use CG when really doing it just looks so great?
She's supposed to be 16 but in fact Sophie Aldred was in her mid 20s when she joined Dr. Who. Funnily enough I was a very similar age to the character at the time (I was 16 in 1989), but this is around the time I stopped watching......only to get into it again watching repeats on UK Gold during the '90s.
"I'm 16 I'm too young to be freeze dried"- Again Aldred takes one of the worst lines in the history of television and makes it not only credible but terrifying.
Well in that case i can advice you, to listen to Big Finish. The storys are awesome and almost everyone (exapt Smith and Capaldi era actors) have repised their roles. I find it highly unlikely that Kabes race was entirely wiped out. If they were capable of exiling him to another world they certainly could have colonized other worlds (and anticipated their sun was going to explode soon) like earth did in the year 1 million.
I never saw this until watching Dr. Who on Hulu about 8 years ago. I'm certain "RotLA" inspired this scene and the scene inspired scene in "The End of the World"
If people came and went from this colony, wouldn’t it have been easier for Kane to simply steal a ship with cryo facilities and return home that way? Why the 3000 years? Getting his hands on the Dragonfire wasn’t his only option.
Kane made the same mistake fellow exile Eldrad did. Both could have made the Doctor take them back to their own planet in the past, soon after they left.

For people saying the Doctor was just a stupid comedian in Season 24, watch Dragonfire.
Sylvester was brilliant throughput Season 24.
I’d say he’s brilliant once he’s out of his post regenerative mania, though even that’s very entertaining due to his comedic talents
