Im just happy to know the Sam and Max license isnt lost to time, as far as I know this is the first piece of Sam and Max content since the Telltale games and Poker Night if you even count that.
here's hoping we get hit the road. as well as seasons 2 and 3!

I loved these games - Hope they do Season 2 as well. Sad that most Telltale Games fans never mention Sam & Max as it was essentially the genesis of the model that would later make The Walking Dead.
(also shows off how versatile the Telltale Composer was considering he did the scores for Sam & Max, Walking Dead, Batman and Tales from the Borderlands, all containing vastly different musical styles)
if you go to skunkape's website you can see season 2 and 3 blacked out on the top of the website so it looks like they are doing all of the telltale ones

@@jonathankozenko they did a reddit ama today in which someone asked about a fourth entry and they responded with “right now we’re busy remastering season 2 and 3”, so yeah its confirmed.

Anyone remember the back to the future and Jurassic park games telltale did?
I picked up the Switch version and played the first Episode. Can confirm it runs well, and the new upgrades are nice. I particularly like how the time of day now advances based on how far into the story you are, with dynamic lighting. It adds a great new noir vibe to the game, as well as helping keep the locations visually interesting despite the backtracking.
Does it have replayability?
@@ben_jamin4529 Not especially. I mean, it'd been long enough since I'd played that I'd forgotten most of the puzzles, but it's totally linear with no alternate solutions or anything like that.
Hope they do season 2 as well!
They confirmed in a Reddit AMA yesterday that they're already working on Season 2, although the scope of the upgrades will depend on how well Season 1 sells.

I'm surprised that they looked more into the direction of the Telltale games for a remaster. Those are some really underestimated games imo, one of the best 3D style point'n'clicks that were ever released.
Man, I played these games back when they released on Gametap.

I remember when telltale’s games were fun like this. Before they starting having breath you take have possible negative consequences to the course of the story.
And it turning out that they really didn't affect anything, in the long run.
@@professordetective807 I always wanted to play telltale games’s titles. Never really got the chance to. When the walking dead came out I thought it was just going to be a thing with them specifically. But then everything started following the shift from point and click puzzle adventure to interactive stories where a single wrong choice ends up with a character dying or a friendship destroyed. It was a pretty big turn off for me.
Might be part of the reason why telltale went bankrupt. Instead of a single fleshed out narrative for each game, they starting making a bunch of possible narratives that were more shallow or made players feel bad about playing them if they made a certain choice.
@@theheroneededwillette6964 | To explain further: characters can die, circumstances can change, but the ending to an episode/season will always end the same, at least in the broad strokes.
Also, TTG died because people figured out how little gameplay their works ended up having and how illusory the choices were in them that they just watched them on YT instead of buying them. It was the same thing.
You said they changed nothing about the original writing, but I've seen reports that are saying certain parts/jokes have been censored.
Why isn't that addressed here?
They changed barely 10 lines, most people arent going to notice unless you hold the scripts side by side

@@cookieface80 Is a VA change really that noteworthy? Most remasters of old games usually recast some roles. Anyone who is looking forward to this game already knows it and people hearing this about this game the first time wont care.
the remaster is amazing and so well done!! I thought these games were a niche from my childhood never thought I would get to play updated versions. Thank you for this review. I hope everyone gets s1 so we can get season 2 (hopefully with more bonus features added. I would LOVE a commentary track option for example, or concept art)
also. gotta say that everyone crying censorship NEEDS to chill. they changed like, what 11 lines?? Out of thousands?? Personally, I didn't even notice the changes first playthrough, and tbh I think some of the old lines are p cringe, but if you prefer them, that's fine, you do you. you're allowed to have your own opinion. you can prefer the old VA, play the old games, but the game wasn't censored, come on. don't overshadow all of the devs' hard work.
sweet! i remember watching longplays of each episode and loving the exchanges from the characters, and the remaster sounds like the perfect opportunity to play them on modern consoles, i hope they do that for seasons 2 ad 3
The original release of this on Wii had so many LOL moments, I’m looking forward to diving back in. Enough time has passed that I’ll probably laugh all over again. My favorite, most hilarious puzzle was the presidential debate. We tried every combination, because the responses for the wrong solution were so hilarious. Would’ve been nice to see some better ambient occlusion and shader work, but it looks MUCH better than even the enhanced version from the Xbox 360.
Sam and Max freelance police! That was the first tell tale game I played. That was such a glorious game. Still miss telltale
I played this for the time on a pc my father was fixing. It had the demo, and it stuck with me forever. When I was about 12 I decided to look it up, and after about an hour of vague searches I found Sam and Max! I absolutely love these guys, and I do honestly hope they revive the franchise.
They need to remaster the original game from LucasArts

Nice review Will! The game looks great, and ill always fondly remember the massive fan fervor for this on the Indie showcase stream haha! That was so wholesome, and i didnt even know Sam & Max had that big a following these days, since i only really know the original MS: DOS one.
You mean Hit The Road? I've always wanted to play that one (true, I own it from GOG so I'm out of excuses now). But yes, while Telltale's Sam & Max isn't perfect by any means, it's certainly wholesome, high-energy and entertaining.

I'm so surprised by this, did not expect this game out of all the possible ones to remaster. I've really wanted this too. I really hope they end up making new games as well, I love Sam and Max.
I remember playing the original season 1. Crap, I still have it on CD among some other games. But I remember playing the shit out of it. Such a great and funny game that you could take on at your own pace. I wish they do the same to season 2 as I didn't have luck to play that.

My niece would love this.
I really enjoyed the comedy and the characters, but I got lost for most of the game and had to go to a walkthrough for a lot of the it. Some of the things you have to do to continue the story is really hard to figure out at least for me. I would give it a 2/5 just because it feels like each episode takes me way longer to get through without a walkthrough and it's tough to figure out how to continue the story.

Jokes were rewritten to avoid giving offense. A new VA was cast for Bosco to match race.
The part where the reviewer says "Dialog wasn't altered" is false. Certain jokes got removed or turned into basically regular dialog without the punchline due to wokeness.
Why wouldn't you remaster hit the road instead?
I wish they had the option to change it to the old school like lucasfilm games.Or at least to unlock the original games.
Hope they release this on Playstation, series two and three were both released on PS3, but series never was :_ ....

Making the series 3D was a terrible move. The original game had such a great art style, the 3D games seem almost sterile in comparison with how featureless everything is.
I love the set pieces, and how much detail was shove into every crevasse. It's what gave the old shows their style. The show and comics are sooo goooood. The 3D is jarring, but I'd do anything to get my Sam and Max hit.
Sorry to be that guy but the Remaster changed Bosco's voice actor and some dialogues from the script to "please" modern consumers.

Apparently they censored/replaced many of the jokes that were a little too edgy for them.
Tbh, it was so minimal. I barely even noticed the adjustments.
@@WillCBlogs I picked a random line from Bosco's shop, just to hear the differences between the voice actors. And in that random line, they actually censored a joke about the grenade launcher. They changed "it'll clear out a room of militant college students in no time" to "it'll clear out any room in no time".
Really? Was that really necessary?
And that was just a random line that I picked by accident out of the video.
Can someone actually confirm they didnt change a thing. The steam review are raging about Bosco changed voice actor and cut jokes for Political Corectness
Bosco's voice actor IS changed. They've been upfront about that. I've heard allegations of a few jokes being changed, but no details. And frankly, if it's only a handful of lines, I don't really care. The original came out 14 years ago. Times change, and if they needed to tweak a few gags that's really not a big deal.
yeah it's like, * maybe * 10 or so lines, according to a thread on steam. I think people are blowing it wayyy out of proportion. it's the same game, same sam and max. personally, I didn't notice the changes, but when I saw the lines, I get why the devs wanted to update things. I know not everyone will agree, but I would hate for this to be the thing that dominates the conversation about the game.

Maybe mention that this version is not faithful to the original and that they censored and removed several jokes/options and even replaced voice actors...?
