That was incredible. I've only experienced it once on a spinning wild mouse without any trims and that was incredible so I can imagine what that was like.
It made a huge difference to the ride...with the trims on it was just ok, but without those trims it was literally a wild thing...did you spot the ride ops sticking their fingers in their ears to block the sound of the squealing brakes. It was a memorable few rides and the staff were rightly thanked for the thrill.
OH so THAT's what those mid ride brakes are called. I know they're needed, but it always felt that they kinda ruined the flow of the ride of the ones I've been on with them. Also man, even with an old analogue camera, you could still see some sparks fall at the end. I hope the operators didn't get in trouble like that one guy did (reminded of the pissed off operator who was quitting and turned off the coasters brakes for you guys, adding years of damage to the ride)
Not sure if you've heard or not but Mamba at Worlds of Fun is essentially running like this at all times now and the park seems hell bent on keeping it running this way indefinitely.

I highly doubt they would do this again, it has had an accident in the past where a train car separated from the rest of the train at the last set of brakes, there's a video of the after math and you can see the last car separated. Failed brake mount struck the rear axle of the train's fifth car, causing the sixth car to detach from the train and de-rail on one side accident occurred in 2006
Thanks for that Dave, you know exactly where I just dashed over from to see this. (To everyone else reading this, if you haven't already watched it, check out his Outlaw through the station vids - it was equally sublime to be there.) A truly fantastic night but not as dark nor as wet as it has become in my mind's eye 23yrs later. It did rain pelters at some point during the ERS though didn't it?
I can't recall rain, to be honest...I recall it drizzled first thing in the morning for the ERS on the old woodie, but everyone looks fairly dry in the station. The speed we hit those brakes after the trims were turned off...the sparks that flew off, such fun...that was what stuck in my head. One of the unique elements of that trip.

girlstorm09 on wild thing they aren't trims, but it is a mid course break run. This makes it so they can run multiple trains at once while keeping it safe.
girlstorm09 Eh I think it’s because it puts a lot of stress on the track and trains Morgan (the manufacturer) uses. All Morgan hypers have vibe-killing MCBRs because of that.
Usually, trim brakes are brakes that do not control a block section and are just used to trim the speed. You'll see little ones on bunny hills of BM Hypers. MCBR aren't always called trim brakes but more often called block brakes, but trim brakes is an interchangable term for both.
Hm. If they redid the mix and ending service brakes and converted them to magnetic brakes and modern brakes, the ride might be able to run this way as part of its normal program... 🤔

knightfan96 Cedar Fair in the 1990s was not as large as today, and with their preference for introducing hypercoasters to parks outside Cedar Point at the time led to picking D.H. Morgan for building Wild Thing, Steel Force, and Mamba at about $10 million each. It was not until 1999 when B&M and Intamin introduced their hypercoasters for sale, starting at $20 million each.
