I started working for British Airways in 1983 and used to use this station daily. I totally agree with your thoughts and description about it being a time capsule.
He delivered!! Im so happy. Amazing video :). Hatton Cross is my closest station so i use it alot so this means so much. I also think the bus station serves more people than was expected. Also its now good that Hatton Cross is in the Heathrow free travel zone meaning that people are most likely get off the buses and then use the tube into Heathrow. But it hasn't been advertised so most people don't know about it.
I used this station once to get home from Hayes (someone told me I could get a bus there and then one tube home instead of fiddling with the national rail) and everything you said is so true. I immediately felt like I had stepped back in time to the 1970s and the whole station just had this vibe about it, I think they call it liminal. Surprised to see I'm not the only person intrigued by this station. It is in the middle of nowhere and as you say brutalist architecture usually gets dismissed as awful.
I have to disagree with you on this one, I think it’s a terrible station. It’s not so much the design of the place but the general run down condition of the surface building. It’s dirty, the doors don’t close properly and the paint is peeling off them. It’s noisy and polluted, but there’s probably not much you can do about that given it’s location. It’s a major bus/tube interchange with passengers using it to transfer from routes such as rage SL7: which often terminates there when it’s running late, and terminals 4 and five. These passengers are likely to have luggage but the is no lift, only stairs. Many of these passengers will have spent a long time on buses, but there is no toilet at the station. I think there used to be one of the French automatic ones just outside he station building, but it’s long gone. The shop sells an interesting range of cakes, which seen Mm to come from mainland European, but again, the building looks run-down. It’s better at platform level, and I like the Speedbird logos, but the place needs a good clean and refurbishment, retaining the original features.

Gave you a shoutout in the description
(hope I did it justice)
@@HillierHugh Thanks. Can't wait to see what number one is. Im guessing North Ealing 😅
It’s certainly a useful station to alight for plane spotting and I love the Speedbird motif on the platforms

One of the tube’s most under appreciated stations!
I visited in opening week 1975 and thought it was amazingly modern! I heard the roof had to be built strong enough to withstand a plane crash.
Wondered if you seen Big Jet TV? Great video and never been to Hatton Cross
Hatton Cross is a great looking station.
hatton cross!
I think its Piccadilly circus
