*Its sad... I feel his pain... It will be same if you jump into any business and jump out of it in 8 months. Here are some of His Mistakes:* 1. *He made VERY huge investment in his very first attempt* ... 25 lakhs is too too much. 2. *He took a huge number of ducks.* Never take more than 25 in first attempt... then grow from there. *His biggest mistake was he took ducks* instead of chicken because he lacks water. *Ducks like to live in water almost FULL TIME during the day*. So doing duck farming with less water is equal to doing chicken farming when living in a boat in water.* 3. *He wanted to match his Gulf Income* from his farm within 3 months. Never possible... at least for first 3 yrs. This is problem with us "pravasi". 4. *He didn't see the vultures waiting to sell their stuff to him.* They say "why buy only 25 ducks. If you want to make profit take 100ducks or 300 or 600 or 900". "Ok.. Now you are buying ducks... also buy feed from us" etc Most newbies fall for that. Its there in all type of farming be it diary or chemical farming. *Govt subsidy+Banks giving loans+Govt Vets +Investment companies = MAFIA* Even the Agriculture TV programs like KrishiDeepam, etc are all giving out wrong information. *All of them are SELLING something or the other. All of them make money FROM YOU* Many of these programs are sponsored by companies investing in Farming. Many RUclipsrs are also just showing the FUN part. No RUclipsrs want to show Failed Stories. Thanks Sunny for showing this side of the business too. 5. *I Don't agree with his words "they need to be in their natural environment"* because none of the farming happens in natural environment... Eg dairy cows live in the most unhygienic conditions and not in their natural environment. Similarly chicken or fish. Ofcourse in an environment that is similar to nature the feed cost will be much less. *Success depends COMPLETELY upon finding or GROWING the FEED YOURSELF* You need big pond... As big as a huge swimming pool for this much ducks. Can all of the ducks get in the water together?Is there as much space left? Else its overcrowding. For ducks you also need fish in the pool. Fish & ducks have a symbiotic relationship. Ducks eat fish but cast out the fish eggs without harm... thus ensuring continuity of fish life in the pond. Similarly the fish feeds on the casting of the ducks. This happens to a certain in padams. *PONDS are a MUST FOR ALL KINDS of FARMS* All old farms in Kerala had ponds (without any kind of liner) to catch rainwater and to send it underground... into the stone where it was stored and excess flowed to the rivers & sea. This is a must for all kind of farm activity. This also reduces the fast movement of rainwater and reduces flooding. *Where there is a pond there is no need for borewell.* This borewell uses powerful electric pump... and pump needs electricity... and electricity costs money. This add to your cost of farming & living. *Ducks have many advantages over Chickens* ... The lay eggs for many years compared to just 2-3 in hens. that are larger, richer in flavor and excellent for baking due to their higher fat and lower water content. Ducks are more heat tolerant, have less aggressive pecking order, don't dig up your soil. They are more healthier than chickens, quieter than chickens, lay eggs more regularly than chickens, eat more variety of pests than chickens.... *but DUCKS NEED WATER* ... water that is alive with other organisms* ... else it will always be difficult. 6. *He considers the time & money spent as a LOSS. This is wrong.* In every business it takes a certain time to understand it. Nothing becomes success overnight. Failures are steps to success... But if you didn't learn from your failure then it's very sad. This would have been a huge loss if he was from the family doing that business. He quits it when he gets good knowledge about it. He learnt 100ducks is the correct number. But his target income is more than Rs8 x 50 eggs = 400per day. I think he was expecting income of Rs1,20,000/pm (Rs8x500eggs =Rs4,000 per day). 7. *Any farming done on a VERY large scale like he did will be a loss* ... that too depending more than 40% of the feed from purchased feed will be a LOSS... be it dairy or poultry or even plain chemical farming. It will give income only after a certain amount of time. 8. *Never "MONOCROP" ... Monocropping = Suicide* .... He invested probably completely in duck farming this can be considered as "monocropping" as the risk of failure is huge in just one activity. He could have done fish farming in the pool too but with lesser number if ducks. 1,000 ducks will be too much for any resource. Large scale commercial level farming with just one "crop" is suicidal. 9. *Ducks LIVE IN water... He didn't have much water* .. he should have turned it into a chicken farm. He could have done it had the numbers were around 100-200 ducks. Can't understand why he started duck farming with less water source. 10. *He is challenging people to do mistake like him and succeed* He expects to do duck farm on dry land with purchased feed and show profit. Why will anybody do duck farming on dryland?!? 11. *Anwar has excellent place for free range chicken farming (100nos) and dairy farming.* Cow poop & chicken have symbiotic relationship. He has good greenery for goats and dairy... provided he can grow enough grass continuously. *He should do multiple activities on his farm and not just one type of farming.* 12. *His calculation was wrong... like all new farmers* ... *Selling Price -* if egg is selling at Rs he should have calculated Rs5. Then automatically he would see that it will not be feasible to manage in big quantity. *Eggs -* If you have 1,000 ducks many newbies will count 1,000 eggs. The real count should be less than 40%. This is also true for cows too. If you have 10 cows expect milk from only 4 or 5 because of various things. *Costs -* If his cost was too great & his eggs not coming as calculated he should have reduced his flock. If he had 15 Lakhs in bank and 100 ducks and a big kareemeen fish pond and 10 cows 20 goats & he would have broken even and the pressure on him would be less. *Everybody should start with a Pond , then add fish,then do any type of farming. He should have added Goats after pond & fish, then cows (because of the greenery around him) then free range chicken, then fish pond and finally ducks. He did it the reverse way. *Because of the greenery around him in this video I think his asset was diary* but his love and attachment to his dream of duck farming made him blind to the greenery around him and to stick with a bad business and stopped him from pivoting to diary. *Now he has a diary but he is trying to study it.* 13. *Labourers* He also seems to have hired multiple labourers to work on his farm. This is a very big expense considering their output will be very less. But he had no option because he started with 1,000 ducks in the first attempt. *He will surely be much better and make good profit in his second attempt (now that he has learned the trade). Best wishes to him wherever he is.* *Why he didn't do free range chicken farming instead of ducks will always remain a mystery.*
how come you learn all this ? is there a good book you can refer to me that give me some insights of farming. You definitely have academic knowledge on farming and that knowledge is close to the nature (reality)and is blended with some experience i think. I think you are wise and old. Can you please suggest me an English book on farming or may be you write one book for me and suggest the same to me so that i read and learn from you. i appreciate your useful comments.

Should start in small scale with 10 ducks and expand gradually. Patience lacking, greedy, fast money dreaming, Uneducated untrained and mislead persons should not enter in to business. You should wait for 3 years to make money in agri based business. And you should have your own place to grow food for the ducks, buying commercial food is a sure sign for disaster

*Its sad... I feel his pain... It will be same if you jump into any business and jump out of it in 8 months. Here are some of His Mistakes:*
1. *He made VERY huge investment in his very first attempt* ... 25 lakhs is too too much.
2. *He took a huge number of ducks.* Never take more than 25 in first attempt... then grow from there. *His biggest mistake was he took ducks* instead of chicken because he lacks water. *Ducks like to live in water almost FULL TIME during the day*. So doing duck farming with less water is equal to doing chicken farming when living in a boat in water.*
3. *He wanted to match his Gulf Income* from his farm within 3 months. Never possible... at least for first 3 yrs. This is problem with us "pravasi".
4. *He didn't see the vultures waiting to sell their stuff to him.* They say "why buy only 25 ducks. If you want to make profit take 100ducks or 300 or 600 or 900". "Ok.. Now you are buying ducks... also buy feed from us" etc Most newbies fall for that. Its there in all type of farming be it diary or chemical farming.
*Govt subsidy+Banks giving loans+Govt Vets +Investment companies = MAFIA*
Even the Agriculture TV programs like KrishiDeepam, etc are all giving out wrong information. *All of them are SELLING something or the other. All of them make money FROM YOU* Many of these programs are sponsored by companies investing in Farming. Many RUclipsrs are also just showing the FUN part. No RUclipsrs want to show Failed Stories. Thanks Sunny for showing this side of the business too.
5. *I Don't agree with his words "they need to be in their natural environment"* because none of the farming happens in natural environment... Eg dairy cows live in the most unhygienic conditions and not in their natural environment. Similarly chicken or fish. Ofcourse in an environment that is similar to nature the feed cost will be much less. *Success depends COMPLETELY upon finding or GROWING the FEED YOURSELF*
You need big pond... As big as a huge swimming pool for this much ducks. Can all of the ducks get in the water together?Is there as much space left? Else its overcrowding. For ducks you also need fish in the pool. Fish & ducks have a symbiotic relationship. Ducks eat fish but cast out the fish eggs without harm... thus ensuring continuity of fish life in the pond. Similarly the fish feeds on the casting of the ducks.
This happens to a certain in padams.
*PONDS are a MUST FOR ALL KINDS of FARMS* All old farms in Kerala had ponds (without any kind of liner) to catch rainwater and to send it underground... into the stone where it was stored and excess flowed to the rivers & sea. This is a must for all kind of farm activity. This also reduces the fast movement of rainwater and reduces flooding. *Where there is a pond there is no need for borewell.* This borewell uses powerful electric pump... and pump needs electricity... and electricity costs money. This add to your cost of farming & living.
*Ducks have many advantages over Chickens* ... The lay eggs for many years compared to just 2-3 in hens. that are larger, richer in flavor and excellent for baking due to their higher fat and lower water content. Ducks are more heat tolerant, have less aggressive pecking order, don't dig up your soil. They are more healthier than chickens, quieter than chickens, lay eggs more regularly than chickens, eat more variety of pests than chickens.... *but DUCKS NEED WATER* ... water that is alive with other organisms* ... else it will always be difficult.
6. *He considers the time & money spent as a LOSS. This is wrong.* In every business it takes a certain time to understand it. Nothing becomes success overnight. Failures are steps to success... But if you didn't learn from your failure then it's very sad. This would have been a huge loss if he was from the family doing that business. He quits it when he gets good knowledge about it. He learnt 100ducks is the correct number. But his target income is more than Rs8 x 50 eggs = 400per day. I think he was expecting income of Rs1,20,000/pm (Rs8x500eggs =Rs4,000 per day).
7. *Any farming done on a VERY large scale like he did will be a loss* ... that too depending more than 40% of the feed from purchased feed will be a LOSS... be it dairy or poultry or even plain chemical farming. It will give income only after a certain amount of time.
8. *Never "MONOCROP" ... Monocropping = Suicide* .... He invested probably completely in duck farming this can be considered as "monocropping" as the risk of failure is huge in just one activity. He could have done fish farming in the pool too but with lesser number if ducks. 1,000 ducks will be too much for any resource. Large scale commercial level farming with just one "crop" is suicidal.
9. *Ducks LIVE IN water... He didn't have much water* .. he should have turned it into a chicken farm. He could have done it had the numbers were around 100-200 ducks. Can't understand why he started duck farming with less water source.
10. *He is challenging people to do mistake like him and succeed* He expects to do duck farm on dry land with purchased feed and show profit. Why will anybody do duck farming on dryland?!?
11. *Anwar has excellent place for free range chicken farming (100nos) and dairy farming.* Cow poop & chicken have symbiotic relationship. He has good greenery for goats and dairy... provided he can grow enough grass continuously. *He should do multiple activities on his farm and not just one type of farming.*
12. *His calculation was wrong... like all new farmers* ...
*Selling Price -* if egg is selling at Rs he should have calculated Rs5. Then automatically he would see that it will not be feasible to manage in big quantity.
*Eggs -* If you have 1,000 ducks many newbies will count 1,000 eggs. The real count should be less than 40%. This is also true for cows too. If you have 10 cows expect milk from only 4 or 5 because of various things.
*Costs -* If his cost was too great & his eggs not coming as calculated he should have reduced his flock. If he had 15 Lakhs in bank and 100 ducks and a big kareemeen fish pond and 10 cows 20 goats & he would have broken even and the pressure on him would be less.
*Everybody should start with a Pond , then add fish,then do any type of farming. He should have added Goats after pond & fish, then cows (because of the greenery around him) then free range chicken, then fish pond and finally ducks. He did it the reverse way.
*Because of the greenery around him in this video I think his asset was diary* but his love and attachment to his dream of duck farming made him blind to the greenery around him and to stick with a bad business and stopped him from pivoting to diary. *Now he has a diary but he is trying to study it.*
13. *Labourers* He also seems to have hired multiple labourers to work on his farm. This is a very big expense considering their output will be very less. But he had no option because he started with 1,000 ducks in the first attempt.
*He will surely be much better and make good profit in his second attempt (now that he has learned the trade). Best wishes to him wherever he is.*
*Why he didn't do free range chicken farming instead of ducks will always remain a mystery.*
how come you learn all this ? is there a good book you can refer to me that give me some insights of farming. You definitely have academic knowledge on farming and that knowledge is close to the nature (reality)and is blended with some experience i think. I think you are wise and old. Can you please suggest me an English book on farming or may be you write one book for me and suggest the same to me so that i read and learn from you. i appreciate your useful comments.
in light of the comment from you on farming, i would suggest you to buy a hybrid car like toyota C-HR at first :)

Should start in small scale with 10 ducks and expand gradually. Patience lacking, greedy, fast money dreaming, Uneducated untrained and mislead persons should not enter in to business. You should wait for 3 years to make money in agri based business. And you should have your own place to grow food for the ducks, buying commercial food is a sure sign for disaster
