You have a terrific ability to explain how to move naturally in a fluid and unrestricted way. Thanks.

I don't think I've seen a better and simpler explanation for the high handicapper! The simultaneous DTL and face on cameras are excellent too!

As a beginner, I believe your Alternative Approach should be main stream. Basket after basket at the range I nearly gave up, until one day I said, surely it is a swing, I just let go of all the stuff I picked up from the internet and swing, and there the ball flew without much effort. Your teaching is exactly that, not the set up, grip, this angle that angle, but the swing, the low point and putting them togther. Another great point of yours is the need for some speed in the up swing, which is very much part of the swing. Many advocate a very slow and even stop at the top of the swing but I find your way is so much more natural. All in all, a great (and essential) set of extremely well presented, insightful tutorials that will benefit many players. Thank you

It is conservation of angular momentum, a physic principle, at work. The reason the club head accelerates rapidly as your lower body stalls is because the club head and to some extent the shaft is tiny compared to your upper body in terms of mass. As the upper body stalls because your hip cannot turn any further, the only way the angular momentum can be conserved is for the club head to speeds up.
With locked wrists, the entirety of your arms along with the tiny club head accelerate. But the arms plus the club head has maybe 10x the mass of the club and shaft, they don't build up quite the same speed with just the club head and shaft moving fast when your wrists aren't locked up.
Tommy Fleetwood appears to be applying the principle to its extreme by purposely stopping his arms hard to produce the sawed off look at the finish. Getting the timing right has got to be difficult not to mention pretty taxing on his body.
For us, Sunday golfers, intellectually recognizing the principle and putting it to work are two wholly different things. Still, it is better to know. Thank you Jonathan for calling this out. It is a start, just loosening up the wrists does a whole lot of good for me.

That was very good one for me. Iam in my late sixties and releasing the club early has become an issue with me I still play pretty good but releasing to early has caused a loss in swing speed and miss hits. Excellent video!

Tried something similar after a knee replacement, had to swing easy, did the drop bit but didn’t focus on the turn bit , it just sort of happened. I have never hit the ball as far ! As I got fitter and more athletic again I of cause tried controlling things and it all went down hill 😂😂. I’ll go back and give it a go putting the turn after the drop, it’s very hard just to let it fall from the top, especially on a pressure shot. My playing mates have said I should go back to the “nonchalant swing “ but I hated it as I felt i had no control 😂😂

Question. How should I “Drop” my arms? Do I relax them and let gravity take over or do I activate certain muscles? Thank you

Exactly that, relax the muscles and let gravity do the work.

Is it me or is this video a complete goldmine? This completely opened my eyes about the golf swing. I’m gonna have to save this video for next time I need to remind myself that it’s a swing.
