From my experience as a quick talking woman, I feel like men who speak fast are considered bold, passionate, and smart, whereas women who talk fast get treated as overly emotional and pushy or bossy. 🙄
Exactly that pisses me off to no end. It's been years now I thought by now people moved on from these mysoginist and sexist comments about women. But nope. Still there. Same with a woman who's a boss/manager, if she gets firm or acts more stern in a meeting its automatically she's emotional and too bossy but if a man does the same he's a great boss and a leader! Ugh makes me mad.
"You would never see men be so sleazy with each other" Um, sir/ma'am, could I interest you in the crypto sphere? Or, how about the wellness industry? Maybe the alpha/sigma shtick? Lots of choices for you.
I am definitely using that one! I get elderly patients that whine and get mean because “you talk too fast”, but when I slow down they still whine about it. That’s when I realized they were just looking for something to complain about. It’s always the ones angry at the world that do it.
As an anthropologist, thank you for bringing up the cultural/societal implications of vocal fry stigma! It's important we know where and how these things pop up.
Fellow anthropologist here! And I have a vocal fry as well, and I am not even an English native speaker. I live in Austria, so German is my main language, but I have a deep voice and consume a lot of American content. That´s why my English sounds more American than English. I personally find it tightly problematic that people feel the need to shame the way others speak. It is ignorant, to say the least. We definitely need to educate people more about the cultural aspects of language.
Hi! Here is your 4th speech pathologist confirming you do NOT have a vocal fry. And you’re right, if you do have a vocal fry, so what?! Personally, actual vocal fry bothers me a bit due to my training/education and because I know people aren’t using enough breath support when they speak. And if you need a little more confirmation here, I wouldn’t be watching your channel if you used a vocal fry because it’s distracting to me. We all have a choice of what we watch. If you don’t like it, move on to a different video.
Not a speech pathologist but I agree. I used to watch someone who had it. I ended up in subbing for other reasons but it really annoyed me. Hannah doesn’t have it. Also, thx for what you do
Have you noticed that it's always women you get 'I hate your voice' comments? I have had people comment about my vocal fry on a PHONE CALL. Nope, this is just my voice. I have a low voice.
I simply won’t allow anyone to say anything rude about you, Hannah!! I consume quite a bit of content on RUclips and you are, by far, the most thoughtful, considerate, and kindest of all the creators I watch. My mom, God rest her, had an expression for this kind of situation (well, she had one for most situations 😂)…”people like to throw rocks at things that shine”. Hannah, you shine. 🙂
I've seen the distaste for vocal fries for years, and it's always puzzled me. I think what you're saying you found in your research though is fascinating and totally makes sense. I may have to jump down this rabbit hole myself.
Honestly, vocal fries do come across to me as annoying. I think they can make the speaker come across as condescending. However, I sometimes find myself doing it. I guess it happens because I pick up on it from other people, similar to a dialect. Hannah doesn’t have one at all though. At least nothing I’ve been able to pick up on. I’m interested in this too, and I’ll be going on a deep dive as well!!
I find that vocal fries can be a part of either a local dialect or act as subtle speech inflections. I tend to use them subconsciously when speaking especially if I want to exit a conversation without having to explain myself. There's a difference in how words are received by a listener if the speaker's vocal fry is a higher or lower pitch. I don't get upset when someone's voice deepens or they are taking a breath in the middle of a sentence. I generally ignore vocal fries unless it reveals a change in the tone of a conversation. Also, this is how I read that comment because my internal auto-correct is always on and I try not to correct people. 'Do any North American women talk properly anymore?' changed to: 'Do any North American women know how to speak properly anymore?' 'I'm so sick of vocal fry and I really can't listen to it anymore,' changed to: 'I'm sick of vocal fries and cannot stand to listen to them.' 'Why do you have to growl at the end of every sentence?' changed to, 'I noticed there is a growl at the end of every sentence.' 'It's absolutely awful to listen to,' changed to: 'This has been awful to listen to.'
Scientology is just another religion . I don’t think there’s much difference from most other religions when you get down to it. I think all religions are cults
Ooh for once, I'm one of the early watchers/commenters! I've been watching mostly the horror stories and a few top fails videos, and I love listening to Hannah talk. Her voice is so soothing, and I love how caring and respectful she is, even while calling people out for being ridiculous. That's what we should all strive for. Love you, Hannah!
Had to leave a comment about the "slow down" part 😂 I'm from Germany and this is the only non german channel I watch. Besides the interessting content, I think the language is very clear and nice to listen. Helps me to improve my english.. I personally really like the way you speak.
The complaint about too much commentary reminds me of when I used to drive tour buses (as a driver GUIDE...to, you know, give tours while driving) for Holland and Princess Tours in Alaska, and a Princess guest came up to the front WHILE I was talking and asked if I could turn the volume down in the back so she could nap. Like lady....don't pay the extra $5,000 after your cruise tour to have land tours if you DON'T WANT A LAND TOUR. rent a car! get a shuttle! crazy 🤣
@@eloisepharmacist Tourists would also ask when they were going to see the northern lights. In the summer in Alaska, when the sun never goes down for a couple months straight. 😐
Body/ mind connection. Who hasn't received news that had made them feel sick to their stomach? I doubt very few have. There's your proof of body/ mind connection.
There are some post-stroke deficits where people don’t recognize their own limbs. Perhaps the commenter is experience that mind-body disconnect. I wonder who typed their comment.
The mind body connection comment has me rolling. The concept of "mind" and consciousness and it's involvement in physiological experiences has come up in almost every psychology and neuroscience course of my behavioural neuroscience undergrad. Prime example of feeling like you know a lot on a topic because you know very little.

Love these and your attitude. I broke out in hives in April 2020 based on the abrupt changes in my life brought on by COVID. I live in NYC, one of the hardest hit places at the time and I had several close relations who got it. Add to that living alone and my entire life doing a 180 by being stuck in my home and significantly stressful work. My dermatologist told me that the hives were due to stress and anxiety. But sure, random commenter on your video must be correct.
I love your channel Hannah! I was at a flea market on Saturday selling some decals and bears that I’ve actually made, and there was a Scensty rep there. All I could think of was “Thank goodness for Hannah’s channel!” Keep up with what you do!
I love how you are so poised and spicy at the same time. The way you present yourself and the content you create is truly wonderful. Keep up the good work.
I just found your channel and couldn't agree more! I lived in a small country town in Australia for a few years and due to the lack of employment, MLM reps will target these women as being the ONLY way to make money. They will have party after party for every major MLM, sign up all their friends and then message everyone they invited to make sure you buy from them and not the people they signed up at the last party. I was nursing for most of the time I lived down there in a number of different hospitals and care homes and when a friend was diagnosed with meningitis some woman commented on a Facebook post of hers "past tense roller". I replied "what the hell is past tense roller" and NOT EVEN 30 SECONDS LATER I received a DM for DoTerra oils. This lunatic woman actually tried to recommend a doTerra oil to treat meningitis!!!!
I am a bit intimidated about my own channel growing because I don't have enough of a thick skin to handle mean comments. I remember one person who commented on one of my videos with just one word: annoying. It was a mystery box unboxing and it didn't have any context, so I wasn't sure if she was calling ME annoying, or what I got in my mystery box annoying. It bothered me, and I still think about it a year later. I admire your approach and that you are letting the mean comments roll off your shoulders - thank you for being you.
It is really sad that a person would believe there is no mind-body connection. There is literally a claim one can sue for in court about the mind-body connection. Depending on the intent of the defendant, you can sue for Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress or Negligent Infliction of Emotional Distress. One of the elements is that the person must have a physical manifestation related to the thing the other person did/said. Like if an ex-husband wants to hurt his ex-wife by telling her their kid was in an accident and hurt/killed, but he was lying about it. The ex-wife would likely suffer a physical response from that information. Some women have even miscarried over learning tragic information. The husband of the teacher slain in the Uvalde attack just died of a heart attack (broken heart). How strange that people argue over such basic stuff.
That vocal fry comment was the best one.. 😂😂 When I first started watching your videos, I thought you might have had a degree in broadcasting because of how strong, clear and concise your communication skills are.
I started watching you Hannah for your Poshmark content. I stay not so much for the MLM content (which don't get me wrong is fascinating) but you are so funny, articulate and entertaining that I would probably watch you read the dictionary out loud for an hour. Keep being you. Love your channel :)
Re-Makeup I had someone commented that if I want to actually show my face in public (RUclips) I should be wearing at least some makeup . I also had someone commented that with the amount of makeup I have on I'd make more money being a s#x worker than a teacher on RUclips. Both comments were on the same video LOL
I'm so confused by these comments criticizing the way you talk bc a big reason I love your videos so much and have watched almost everything on your channel is because the way you speak is so calming to me. I so often have to turn off youtube videos bc the creator is either talking wayyy too loud, too slow, or something else about their voice is bothering me and making me very anxious (I have pretty bad anxiety and am easily overstimulated). I have found the way you speak to be so clear, articulate, perfectly paced and the perfect volume in my opinion! I have no idea what those commenters are talking about tbh
As a fellow content creator, I really appreciate your honest portrayal of the mean comments you get. How to process them is a skillset I'm only beginning to get the hang of and it was really helpful to see you with yours.
I really wish I had access to a video like this a few years back when I received a slew of hateful comments from a single troll over fiction writing I shared on a popular public platform. The response to my story was overwhelmingly positive but that one troll caused me so much anxiety and stress, I ended up feeling fearful of ever sharing my writing on the internet again. I think Hannah's approach of analyzing these comments-the possible who, why, what- is so healthy and offers perspective. It also kind of lets you get that power back that a mean comment can rob from you. I think Hannah's videos are informative, thoughtful and fun.
My favorite was the "make better content" comment. The specificity. The constructiveness. (Also, on a separate note, I've never heard you speak with vocal fry. I think people just throw out "vocal fry" when what they mean is they don't want women to speak)
I cracked up over the comment about how fast you speak, I love the speed of your speech, usually I have to speed up other videos as they are too slow, so the RUclips speed control help all of us 🙂
This was fantastic. I like how you take these mean comments in stride and actually turned a lot of them into teachable moments and or used them to make great points about both MLM companies and the reason you say the things you say. Never stop being you because you are so awesome and inspiring!
I am floored by your ability to maintain class and composure in this content area, especially when it comes to how ppl talk about the hun bots you feature. thx for being a good human. 👍
Thank you for making this video! I haven't been able to post on social media for months now due to hate comments. I don't even post anything controversial since I just share my handmade jewelry, but even with that, I would get angry trolls who would make rude and mean comments. For a while, I thought I was the only one who got haters and thought something really was wrong with me. It helps to know that it's just the nature of the internet and that you can be okay and let the comments roll off of you
The mind body comment got me the most. Ever since I’ve been diagnosed (and a little bit before it) I’ve had physical reactions when my anxiety gets really bad (think stomach pain and some chest pain as well)
20:16 honestly Hannah, I'm so relieved to hear this from you. You saying this makes me feel so much better about my reading skill! I always thought to myself, "man, why can't I read out loud so long, so perfectly, like Hannah?" I was beginning to be seriously envious. Thank you for reminding me that it's okay to not be perfect!
The thing about the "vocal fry" is a totally new concept for me. My first language is not English but I notice that there is a "valley accent" that some people talk about in commentary videos I watched and in ASMR of course. I didn't understand what was that. Pretty interesting topic, I will deep dive about it.
The comment about the speed at which you talk is hilarious. I speed up most RUclips videos I watch, so when I watch you at normal speed it seems so slow at first! Probably because you're taking the time to accurately articulate your eNdLeSs commentary 😂 But honestly, you have a pretty normal pace! I'm glad you are able to brush off these comments! Keep doing you!
The vocal fry thing is so interesting, honestly. I have a vocal fry sometimes but it’s because I’m a massive introvert who doesn’t talk very often. This means, when I do talk, not only do I talk a lot, but I also talk loudly and passionately. So my throat gets sore and then I speak with a vocal fry. Lol
I tried to think of examples of people using vocal fry, and the examples my brain called forth were of people speaking to others dismissively in media. Upon further reflection, I could not recall people acting like that with a vocal fry outside media representation. Media, from my recollection, uses it as shorthand to indicate a demeaning/bullying character. Little wonder a negative stereotype would grow around it.
it's also seen as a low class/dirty trait. a woman speaking with vocal fry is common in diner scenes to establish the server is unclean and uneducated.
vocal fry has become the new southern accent. I was teased to no end for my southern accent, so much that I hide it as much as possible. Drawls are associated with uneducated, trashy, messy people and have no place in a professional setting. Now that's extended to vocal frys - which I tend to have when I am hiding my accent. Can't win for losing.
I genuinely enjoy your videos. No snide mean girl remarks, no random cussing for no good reason, just pure educational, calming and soothing videos. I don't understand the hate. I'm here for the tea, and it comes with occasional cat butt shots. So I'm living for it.
I’m usually not a big fan of “reading mean comments” videos but yours was so lighthearted, funny, intelligent and handled with grace - love u Hannah ☺️
11:09 You don’t speak too fast. Lmao I’m watching you at 1.5 speed now. I love that you speak clearly enough that I can speed you up more!! Love your videos!
I absolutely enjoy your usual type of videos, they’re very entertaining and educational. I also love this sassy groove that you can get into! We are all multifaceted! Great video!
9:34 "showing women to be sleezy and stupid, you'd never see men do that" buddy, that's like... alot of car sales guys. (I know its not all but its enough to be a stereotype lmao)
The vocal fry one is so odd! I’ve noticed that when I hear it in person, it does bother me in a misophonia way, but it never evokes thinking the person is uneducated or anything negative about them. It is definitely my misophonia, because it’s only people close to me, like my husband or my mom. And it doesn’t happen often. Looking back, the reason I know what it is and have always avoided is from being in choirs my young adult years and being told it can cause vocal polyps like Julie Andrews, and when it’s activating that nails on a chalkboard feelings, I’m always involuntarily visualizing vocal chords slapping together. So it may be a misguided empathy response from my body. NOW, I’m having this realization as I type this, no one ever showed me true evidence that it is really how those develop or that that what happened to Julie Andrews! I may also go on a deep dive about this because ew, what if I had this misogynistic, victim-blame-y anecdote-based concept rattling around my head fueling my misophonia?? It’s blowing my mind There may also be a transphobic reason for this line of bullying, since I know they must retrain their voices and maybe it’s another micro aggression, knit picking tactic
You are so lovely! I’m back at University and the critical thinking in your videos is like additional training for my studies, furthermore you’re interesting, present the facts kindly and clearly, are doing a service and sooooo intelligent. So glad I discovered this channel- I know a few huns but we agree to disagree on this because they know I’m anti 🥰🤣

@@loosilu She’s one of the few creators I don’t have to watch on 1.5x speed!
Or annoying sadly
We're not talking too fast, everyone else is just listening too slow.
Getting hate just lets you know that you’re doing something right, considering what your content is. Keep on carrying on!!
I went to turn on one of your videos last night and realized I had watched them all 😭just found this one before doing 4 loads of laundry. Yay!!🙌
"You would never see men be so sleazy with each other"
Um, sir/ma'am, could I interest you in the crypto sphere? Or, how about the wellness industry? Maybe the alpha/sigma shtick? Lots of choices for you.
I used to be all apologetic when someone said I spoke too quickly...now I just tell them to listen faster! 😂
too quickly is better than too slowly imo
When I learned I could speed up/down videos, I thought I had won the lottery 😁
I love that 😂
😂
Also, thx for what you do
What it a vocal fry?
So interesting!!
'Do any North American women talk properly anymore?' changed to: 'Do any North American women know how to speak properly anymore?'
'I'm so sick of vocal fry and I really can't listen to it anymore,' changed to: 'I'm sick of vocal fries and cannot stand to listen to them.'
'Why do you have to growl at the end of every sentence?' changed to, 'I noticed there is a growl at the end of every sentence.'
'It's absolutely awful to listen to,' changed to: 'This has been awful to listen to.'
I should probably find some time to write a short story and send it to you about how I almost got sucked into a cult: Scientology.
you absolutely, 100% should do this.
Yes!!
That would be great!! Maybe she could draw off of similarities of your story to mlms
Cults are easy to get sucked into . Look at how many people are religious ;)
Spot on!!!! Hannah is a talented creator!!! She has a natural knack for getting her take on things across in a gentle and kind way!
Had to leave a comment about the "slow down" part 😂 I'm from Germany and this is the only non german channel I watch. Besides the interessting content, I think the language is very clear and nice to listen. Helps me to improve my english.. I personally really like the way you speak.
Can’t believe someone had the cheek to comment about your hair haha it’s literally perfect every single video !!
Right? All I could think was “jealous much”?😁
This just shows how micro managed women are by complete strangers
What?
Wait, does that person... *not* believe that their arms are a part of their body?...
😂😂😂😂
Not Tracy thinking you talk to fast, and me putting you on 1.5 speed 😂😭
Same
The complaint about too much commentary reminds me of when I used to drive tour buses (as a driver GUIDE...to, you know, give tours while driving) for Holland and Princess Tours in Alaska, and a Princess guest came up to the front WHILE I was talking and asked if I could turn the volume down in the back so she could nap. Like lady....don't pay the extra $5,000 after your cruise tour to have land tours if you DON'T WANT A LAND TOUR. rent a car! get a shuttle! crazy 🤣
Reminds me of the couple my parents met on the artic circle cruise and moaned the whole time that it was "too cold" out on deck!!
@@eloisepharmacist hahahaha
@@eloisepharmacist Tourists would also ask when they were going to see the northern lights. In the summer in Alaska, when the sun never goes down for a couple months straight. 😐
Body/ mind connection. Who hasn't received news that had made them feel sick to their stomach? I doubt very few have. There's your proof of body/ mind connection.
"That's like saying my arms are a part of my body" Uh, what, are your arms not a part of your body? News to me.
I was also like wtf so confused 🤣🤣
LMAO
There are some post-stroke deficits where people don’t recognize their own limbs. Perhaps the commenter is experience that mind-body disconnect.
I wonder who typed their comment.
I just started creating anti-MLM content and am not looking forward to the inevitable hate 😂 keep on killing it Hannah!!
Here I am, two years later, laughing at the person complaining that you speak too fast because I've been binging your videos at 1.5x speed.
The mind body connection comment has me rolling. The concept of "mind" and consciousness and it's involvement in physiological experiences has come up in almost every psychology and neuroscience course of my behavioural neuroscience undergrad. Prime example of feeling like you know a lot on a topic because you know very little.
lolol.. i heard this comment somewhere and can't remember where. but this guy said.. this is not an airport. you don't have to announce when you leave or when you arrive LMAOOO.. although not exactly the same, it reminded me of that comment when u talked about the need to announce.
Yes! I’ve seen people say “this is not an airport, you do not have to announce your departure” in reference to people commenting why they’re unsubscribing 🤣
I love when you used to wear your hair up. How having so much hair you can put it in a high bun can be associated with baldness is beyond me.
I prioritize your content precisely because you add valuable commentary to all types of video, including this one.
I really appreciate the editing on your videos. So many other creators just ramble on, stumbling over words, mispronouncing words.
When I first started watching your videos, I thought you might have had a degree in broadcasting because of how strong, clear and concise your communication skills are.
I started watching you Hannah for your Poshmark content. I stay not so much for the MLM content (which don't get me wrong is fascinating) but you are so funny, articulate and entertaining that I would probably watch you read the dictionary out loud for an hour. Keep being you. Love your channel :)
The "talk slower" one gets me 😂😂 I listen on 1.75x speed
The mind body connection one was so dumb, especially considering that I've had stress induced stomach ulcers before.
And down the vocal fry rabbit hole I go...Love that I always learn something interesting in your videos.
Re-Makeup
I had someone commented that if I want to actually show my face in public (RUclips) I should be wearing at least some makeup .
I also had someone commented that with the amount of makeup I have on I'd make more money being a s#x worker than a teacher on RUclips.
Both comments were on the same video LOL
Girl, these are hilarious! Thanks for reading them.
Don’t slow down, your voice is so soothing and help me fall asleep ❤
Oh God the horror of a commentary creator having commentary!! 😱 I actually complain about some creators not having enough commentary lol
I think you are one of the most well spoken, educated individuals that I listen to. Keep up the good work❤️
As a fellow content creator, I really appreciate your honest portrayal of the mean comments you get.
I can't believe you get mean comments. You are always so nice, so polite, so generous in your comments. We love you and thank you for your work
I am floored by your ability to maintain class and composure in this content area, especially when it comes to how ppl talk about the hun bots you feature. thx for being a good human. 👍
I like how your demeanor is more calm than some of the other anti-mlm creators (I love them too) but I’m loving this sassier you ❤
Thank you for making this video!
Yay! I'm home sick today and I was just sitting at my desk thinking, "Where's my Hannah?" and I saw your new video!! I was so excited!
LOL! Tracy commenting on the speed of your talking.... I literally watch all of your videos on 1.5 speed. 😂
I'm glad you're feeling better, and I hope Covid wasn't too bad for you! I had it a week after having the flu back in January, and it sucked haha
I was in the middle of binge watching your mlm horror stories but I had to stop to watch this! 😅
Please post more of these videos! They're so entertaining and provide rebuttals against MLM's in a different context!
vocal fry has become the new southern accent.
That comment on how fast you talk is funny because I listen to most RUclips videos at 1.75/2x speed lol
It’s blowing my mind
There may also be a transphobic reason for this line of bullying, since I know they must retrain their voices and maybe it’s another micro aggression, knit picking tactic
The talking too fast comment made me laugh because I watch everything on 1.5-2x speed 😂
My mean comment: You're too nice
I am just kidding.
Love you, glad I found your channel even if I was confused what Anti MLM meant at first
Yeah, you definitely can be too nice
You are so lovely! I’m back at University and the critical thinking in your videos is like additional training for my studies, furthermore you’re interesting, present the facts kindly and clearly, are doing a service and sooooo intelligent. So glad I discovered this channel- I know a few huns but we agree to disagree on this because they know I’m anti 🥰🤣
Cyanide and arsenic are two things which are natural. They are two things which are super duper poisonous. They are two things that I don't need to try to know these facts about them, they're easy to research the information about. They're also both very much like MLM companies.
I love your content!! Maybe to “educate” the MLM bots, you could do a “How Not to Be a Scam Company” video just for them.
Love this video (not the fact that you get mean comments). I get a fair amount of comments like this as well (or DMs), but ever since seeing them as content for videos just like this one, they don’t get to me as much. I almost have enough for another video myself haha.
Keep doing what you are doing. I just finished watching the whole anti mlm playlist of yours.
Hannah you are eloquent and I love listening to your voice. Sometimes I’ll put one of your playlists on at bedtime and fall asleep. Thank you for all of your compassion, empathy, knowledgeable COMMENTARY and kitty cats! Much love to you and your growing family ❤❤❤
I didnt even know you had these videos until I was looking for anti-mlm videos on your channel that I havent seen.... I dont get how a single soul could have something mean to say. You're the sweetest and nicest mlm-commentary channel I follow. 😭🤗
i love listening to your voice so much! it’s so soothing and i love having you as background to whatever it is i do for the day :)
Episode 22 was absolutely suggested to me on RUclips. Assumptions are likely correct about a bunch of new people in that video. Been hooked since ♥️
The pacing comment cracked up. I listen to you on 2x because I have no patience for anything so it’s wild to hear someone call you fast when I speed you up even more.
You are such a sweet and respectful person towards everyone, I love your content because you always do a good, in-depth research before making a video ❤❤ greetings from Croatia! 🇭🇷
