    So much fun!! I love this. I have a quick question. Is it possible to collect the pollen and save it for when another echinopsis blooms and then fertilize it with the saved pollen? Thanks in advance for taking time to answer.

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  Год назад +2

      Hi there :-D yes the good news is the pollen can be saved for a future cross pollination with another Echinopsis, once you have collected the pollen keep it in an airtight container and in the refrigerator and it can be stored for up to 6 months, its so much fun to play the Bee to get seeds haha, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic weekend XXXX

    Dear Lyn, I 💚 this wonderful white flower of the Echinopssis member of Cactaceae family. Among the 1000+ prickly friends in my cactus (hedgehog) collection, Echinopsis blooms in every july of summer. The flower lasts only an hour, but its smell can be felt from 300 meters away.
    And I take pictures of them and cry ... from happiness !!!

      Dear Lyn ~ @@desertplantsofavalon , this cactus is very old (about 70 years). He belonged to my grandmother (mother's mother), who left this world in 1970). Then I took the cactus to my home. And in time, he made many children. But only in 2013 did it bloom for the first time. So I think that my grandmother continued to live through the wonderful flowers of "her" cactus.
      I will send you an email (via Gmail), with some flowers of the good old Echinopsis.
      All my collection lives now in a large and modern greenhouse, located (together with many other succulent plants and various exotic plants from the lush forests of the Earth) at 6 km from my city Bucharest (in Romania, Europe).
      Thank you 🌹

      Hi Kelly :-D yes its definitely worth pollinating it as some are self pollinating and it would be fun to give it a go and see what happens, when the flowers get pollinated, the flower head dies back and a little pod will start to form from the base and swell up :-D Good luck with being the Bee and thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald Isle for a fantastic Friday XXXX
