Often these kinds of gambles do NOT pay off - but when you’re 5th, hey, what the hell - it’s worth the risk. The one thing that George did do well is look after his tires. So credit for that. But you can be damn sure that if both Lewis and George had one stopped, there’s no way George would have beaten Lewis.

Lewis was silent the time on radio to parc ferme,told oscar in the podium room tyres were fine on both stints,media penn that he puts faith in the team and we discuss things before but he wasn’t made aware he would be one stopped by his teammate. He deserved the win and despite merc stabbing him,he won,if nto for the 1.6kg deficit george wouldn’t have been able to stay close to piastri before deciding to keep going,lewis would’ve got him in the last 6laps,his tyre deg across the race would be lower,ffs the deficit anounts to total 3-4s in total race time,thats without measuring tyre degradation advantage

there were many things contributed to this... russel was given undercut pit, which was pretty significant he was 8 sec behind lewis pre pit, and was 5 sec post pit after lewis. 3 sec gained! also pit cost 19-20 secs... so lewis had to cover way more than he needed to overtake george! now with lighter car... possibly 1-2 sec in race distance? also ham asked if he needed to go faster, they gave him no info other than its ok now... race was fixed for rusel, no matter what ham did, it was kind of doomed. you can tell from his face he knew...
Big Mercedes mistake. George was pushing, he should have been instructed to save fuel in the end, to meet the weight requirements, not to fight Lewis. A podium is better than nothing.
He was all out to defeat Lewis in any way possible. He ended up cheating himself out of points. The fault goes to Mercedes that allowed this internal sabotage.
They weigh the cars drained completely of fuel for the weight requirement. What you are thinking of is the min fuel requirement which can also DQ the driver

Lewis did the brave overtakes and got the lead early on.Russell the only car to one stop and saved 25 seconds he claimed the credit for this..but really this was always risky 35 laps on one set of tyres..the tyre wear probably put his car underweight especially with no cool down lap for pickup…

He pushed because of the same reason he was disqualified, he was underweight therefore it saved his tires and that's why he able to continue 30 laps on the same tire. So from the get go he wouldn't have won.
Mercedes did the best thing for the team and they went 1/2 or they would’ve went 1/4 with Lewis Hamilton winning so they have to do what’s best for them. If the roles were reverse I’m pretty sure Russell would be bummed but he would understand that it’s for the team.
