This is the third video in the Fundamentals series on becoming an effective communicator.

    This comes naturally to me.
I'm all about slow speaking, slow food, and slow productivity.
I found you through Ali Abdaal's productivity course.
Big fan of creating space and pausing for reflection.
Much needed in the world today.
Things are so fast and furious.
This is an antidote to chaos.

But what if the audience lose interest in what we are saying when we pause?

In my experience, there are two types of pauses:
      - anxious pauses (e.g. "oh no, I'm blanking, everyone is looking at me, what if they are losing interest?")
      - confident pauses (e.g. "let me think for a few seconds, there is no hurry. Everyone will appreciate the thoughtfulness and the moment to digest")
It's important to believe that pausing is for everyone's benefit. This is the belief that turns anxious pausing into confident pausing.
Even if the audience loses interest during your pause, you can naturally gain it back when you start speaking, especially if you momentarily raise your energy and conviction to 'perk' their attention.
You can check out the video on 'musicality' for more tips on getting people's attention. Thanks for your great question!
