    I love the spirit of experimentation here. But man it seems you could just push CO2 into the fermenter to keep positive pressure and pour the hops in from the top.

    You could use a tube to the bottom in the Flex Chamber on the "out" to purge it. Fill it with Starsan, push with CO2 and the tube will drain out the Starsan from the bottom of the Chamber. Then it will be completely filled with CO2. Same idea as when you prepare a cornyu keg for a closed system transfer

    • @zackrabbitbrewing4997
      @zackrabbitbrewing4997  Год назад +1

      Yes I thought about that and is a good idea. You would need to add another co2 post on the other side the only reason I didn’t go that route is when removing the flex chamber for dumping its a bit harder to release the pressure. As you would need to get another co2 ball lock with a hose attachment to connect to co2 post to release pressure before removing. At that point I figured that’s more thing I had to clean with not much more benefit. Just being lazy I guess lol!

    It looks like you are using a brewbuilt X1? I picked one up along with the pressure pack and kit for pressurized fermentation. The kit came with a nylon prv same as on a keg but it won't fit into the threading for the prv built into the lid. Dud you have to do anything to the prv built into the lid?

    • @zackrabbitbrewing4997
      @zackrabbitbrewing4997  Год назад +1

      You know I got the pressure pack as well and did not receive a PRV with the kit. I did however want to change the stock PRV at one time to allow for manual pressure release but after looking into more I ended up just leaving it alone. The stock PRV is a safety PRV valve rated at 15 PSI. It’s not designed to manually release pressure like a keg PRV. I decided it was better to just to use a spunding valve instead since I was going to be using it anyways. Hope this make sense.

      @zackrabbitbrewing4997  Год назад

      If you going to be doing pressurized fermentation you will need to use a spunding valve anyway so it is pointless to replace the stock PRV.

    Do you ever take off the top of the flex chamber? If so, how do you unloosen the top from the rest of the flex chamber? It is pretty snug, but I like this since it seals so well. When I ferment I start with the drain valve open. I noticed on other videos on conical fermenters that they seem to have little to no flow when they open the drain valve initially.

      The first time I actually used it it was an absolute bear to get off. Since then I have been using keg lube on the threads and has mad it easier to remove but still snug. For the most part haven’t wanted to leave dump valve open just so I don’t lose to much beer but will give it a try next brew for sure.

    Still reckon you need a Hop Dropper. This makes one way traffic for everything from the top in to bottom exit. What manufacturers hop droppers will fit on the pressure unit? Cheers.

    • @zackrabbitbrewing4997
      @zackrabbitbrewing4997  2 года назад

      Hey John! I’ve tried both and I would say both have there benefits. There are several options when it comes to hop droppers. Brewers hardware and brewtools are some good options. There is a 4” port at the top of the fermenter that would be the best way to go but then will be unable to use the pressure pack. Or you can use the pressure pack with has a 1.5” port and use a hop dropper that fits that size. The hop dropper can get pretty expensive as well especially for the 4” one. The 1.5” dry hopper retails around $160 and the 4” you can get around $350!

      @@zackrabbitbrewing4997 Thanks Zack. The 1.5'' would be the way to go and would work ok I suppose. What about the drama of having a sight glass utube set up to dump trub and old hops? Cheers. The beer line in the Flexi bottle bottom I always thought would be a good idea. I see it works pretty good as well and the price is right.

      @@johnfreeborn979 using a more of a traditional set up on the bottom of the fermenter works well. Especially because brewbuilt has a 2” port on the bottom of the fermenter. I use a sight glass with a 90 and a butterfly valve. When you dump anything I will throw on a reducer Barb to avoid a huge mess especially if the fermenter is under pressure.

      @@zackrabbitbrewing4997 I've been using Fermentasaurus and Fermzilla. The bottom collection bottles became redundant pretty quickly. Fermzilla split last brew (luckily above the liquid level), so in the market for Brewbuilt etc. Cheers.

    Definitely different way of dry hopping from bottom and not top via hop droper. could you still do it that Way? Or is that due to the top having the cooler and floating dip balls in so hops have to be pushed up not down.

    • @zackrabbitbrewing4997
      @zackrabbitbrewing4997  3 года назад +1

      No you can absolutely still dry hop from the top. The fermenter came with the flex chamber so I really was testing it out more than anything. The second time it work really well. The biggest problem for me is removing the hops after dropping them in fermenter with no bag so the flax chamber works well for the so far.

    • @garethsmith2250
      @garethsmith2250 3 года назад

      @@zackrabbitbrewing4997 that's great as when I looked at the diagrams of the top lid I can see how floating dip ball works and coolstick goes in middle was confused how you could then fit dry hooper.

    • @zackrabbitbrewing4997
      @zackrabbitbrewing4997  3 года назад +1

      @@garethsmith2250 the unit I have is the X1 pro which there is no need for a glycol chiller/cooling stick. All the heating and cooling takes place on the outer part of the fermenter with there pettier technology. Also you don’t have to use the pressure pack(floating ball)you can use a traditional racking arm to rack beer from fermenter to keg and that will leave the top 4 in port completely open for whatever you want to use it for. If you are having to use glycol chiller with this fermenter you will be limited to only the 1.5 inch port which I’ve seen people dry hop from on other units. 1.5 inch port can make it a little difficult to dry hop from due to not a ton of room.
