I have the X1 and am pretty fed up with the floating dip tube. You have to attach a weight to it to keep it from just skimming and sucking foam, and in the end you're left with too much beer in the fermenter on heavily dry-hopped beers. Will be upgrading to the rotating racking arm.
Very cool. Mine has already been fermenting a batch since Monday in my cold garage. I don’t have the cooling lines yet either, so fortunately my garage heat is set to 53F for the Vienna lager in it. I had a slight issue initially getting a good seal with the V-clamp, but appears to be fermenting great under slight pressure.
It’s similar to the Spike Conicals with the lid gasket and band clamp, and additional cost accessory game. I’ve found the lid gasket is not that bad to insert if you lube it, and push it into the channel at opposite sides in a + pattern, before pushing in the rest of it.
You will get used to it. It’s pretty easy to install after you have done it several times. Never had an issue with the gasket leaking … 🍻 enjoy I think the base setup is, is pretty good. The price is way less than SS and you can get a butterfly valve on Amazon for less than $30 bucks, same as other accessories…
@@HopsANDgnarly 7G version. Depending on the accessories you want they are pretty close, you are right. SS Brewtech- $1099 Brewbuilt X2 - $999 (+ ~60bucks for a dip tube and a butterfly valve)
A floating dip tube in a unitank...certainly a first for me. Great review and completely agree on the strange accessories, would be nice to see it come with a more "usable" configuration out of the box. Can't wait to see the videos where you brew on it!
It’s pretty rad - jacketed is a huge bonus. It’s just like my spike unitank. The floating dip tube is actually pretty great, I ran my CF10 with a floating dip just like this one for a while… I realized I like floating dip tubes so much more than dealing with a dozen accessories, clamps and gaskets that… I stopped using my cf0 completely! Now I just use a Kegmenter with a floating dip tube and life has never been easier 👍🏻
Appreciate the honest thoughts on the product. Looking forward to getting mine next week. I agree that the floating dip tube for transfer is odd. It’s nice that it’s there, but I’d much rather use a racking arm personally. Great video as always.
Great video! I'm curious what's going on with the lid @7:50? Does it just have some cleaning residue on it or did it get discolored/marked up from cleaning off the sticker goo?
I like it , and all it can do especially temp control . I just hate all the cleaning and detail that goes into preparing and maintaining clean . I’m only making home brew and the expense is out of my budget . Great video Dan .
@@HopsANDgnarly I usually and generally use my glass carboys … yeah I know , old school , but it makes good beer . I also use a Firmzilla which is ok , but again cleaning and taking apart is a pain especially all the turning nuts and which way to turn . Also leaks if not properly secured .
I’m a seasonal brewer like in October or November I start lagers and pilsners , Feb thru April I do ales from there on I’m stuck with Kviek or ice baths kinda a pain .
Yea the plastic marshmallows are definitely a pain. Nothing wrong with a tried and true carboy! But that’s the downside, hard to control temps. Cheers!
@@HopsANDgnarly I just brewed an ipa , 7% , pale malt , caramunich , 2oz cascade 60 minutes , 1 lb citra at flame out 190f and 3 oz of nectoron dry hop 3 days . What you think ?
Cool fermentor. Would highly suggest replacing those black gaskets with some red silicon ones. They're much better to work with and I personally prefer them. Might be difficult to replace that large gasket but they are out there. Ready to see a batch made with it! Always enjoy your videos, dude.
Hi any experience fermenting a half batch I have an old school 20 gallon 3 vessel herms system I want to get back into 5 gallon batches with a spike solo from time to time would be great to ferment ether size in a 14 gallon fermenter any thoughts on ability to lager and cold crash in a 80 degree room - brewing on Maui
Not yet but I’m planning to test some small batches. The interior markings only go down to 3 gallons on my 7 gallon version but I’d say the jacket goes down to about 2 gallons. To get sufficient contact with the jacket I’m probably aiming for at least 3.5 gallons in the fermenter so 4 gallons in the kettle or so. Scaling that up to your size I bet you could squeak out a 7.5-8 gallon batch pretty easily but any smaller you might need to get crafty with the cooling. I wonder if you could use something like the coolstix in the bottom cone for your small batches. Unfortunately you’ll have this problem with basically all tanks, even the coil cooled versions.
Hey mate, love your video's and video production. Try using Nitric acid and Phosphoric acid for initial clean and passivation. It's far more effective than the methds you describes and the TSP method. Using starsan will work but the volumes requied make it expensive as well only because it contains 6.5 grams of Phosphoric acid per ounce. If you use a ratio of either 200ml of straight Nitric Acid >60% with 60 litres of water between 40 - 50 degrees celcious or use a ratio of 100ml Nitric >60% and 100ml Phosphoric >80% with 60 litres of water between the same temps and allow to sit in the fermenter for a total of 2 hours cycling your CIP 15mins on and half hour off you will get exceptional results. Aim for a P.H of 2 and do this wash every 6 months or when bacterial infection occurs and you'll have no issues what so ever. Keep up the good content
I'll be honest - seeing this really made me glad I got the Ss Brewtech Unitank 2.0. For $1400 they get you the tank, heating and cooling kit (heating pad, pump, silicon tubing), touch controller, the works - including two butterfly valves and a ball valve (for blowoff). The build quality is superb, and by the looks of it I really like their jacket design more.

Nice! Stoked to see how it turns out! 🍻 I filled it last weekend right after this but it’s gonna be a while before it’s packaged and ready to drink
I won't argue, it looks nicer than my 5€ plastic bucket! One day maybe.. Thanks for display that was cool!
Looks awesome!! My next upgrades will be in the glycol chiller and fermenter category, this one’s at the top of the list so far! Cheers Dan 🍻
Right on! Awesome to see all these new jacketed options!
I love new brewing bling! Thanks for sharing your toys!

When will it be available in Europe. 14 gallon x2 is what I need. But how do I heat it.
