  • Homebrewing fermenters have come a long ways since the days of plastic buckets and glass carboys, and the Brewbuilt X2 Jacketed Conical Fermenter exemplifies these pro-at-home advancements. After putting it all together, I fermented a Weissbier in the X2 and made sure to take notes for this product review.

The more I watch videos like this, the more overwhelmed I get with this hobby.

Looks like another company figured out what factory in China Spike was getting it's lids from!

Loving mine so far. Had the holding pressure issue too but I think I too have that fixed thanks to morebeer's great support. Only issue I'm running into now is getting accessories to play nicely on the front ports. IE - using the racking arm and the thermowell at the same time, the racking arm can hit the thermowell if turned too far. Minor issues though.

This thing looks awesome for the price. Spike will have to step up their game and get into the jacketed conical space.

Hey, it’s me from the future. I’d argue that spike fits a niche. It’s one stop before going bonkers with fermentation equipment and you’ll still save a few 100 in the process.

    No retailers in Europe.
I would love to buy a 14 Gal X2 at a fair price.

Stefon is a beast of a yeast. With all that wheat malt it makes tons of krausen.

Neat review and usage. Great job! Personally I am waiting on Delta's 8 gallon conical Fermtank to be released soon! The X2 is a bit out of my price range. 😅

Nice review. I'm saving my pennies to get one of these. Interesting that both you and Beer and BBQ Larry had issues with the seal that shipped with the unit. I'll make sure when I order one that I clarify if this has been resolved. Other than that I love the idea of fermenting with this. There is only one down side as I see it... cleaning!

how was the cold crash performance? The biggest issue I have with the glycol and coils is that it's easy to get the temp probe to 38, but getting it lower than that I have to cover it with a sleeping bag, and the temperature my tilt reports floating on the top of the beer is several degrees above that.

Hi Martin, it’s all well and good to get your opinion on a new fermenter, but what I want to know is what you make of the Johnie Bairstow dismissal. Hmmm

I hope SS sends you their jacketed unitank too. It’s not been widely reviewed yet. So keen on that thing.

I love it so far. Wish there was a second port on the lid for dry hops and such though. I added the Blichmann spunding valve so I can dose CO2 in the blowoff arm wile the lid is off for additions and pressure transfer.

    Stupid question.
Immediately after the boil, could you dump the wert into the conical to sterilize it. Then use the jacketed part in conjunction with an immersion chiller to speed up chilling?
Just trying to think outside the box.

Can you actually do half batches with these since the jacket is only at the top??
