It's been a minute since my last video, thanks for being patient with me. Been going through a lot of life changes between moving, getting a new job and going through some personal issues. Buttt we're back and ready to do some winter camping this season. Hope everyone is doing well 💙
Part of the charm of these videos is how genuine you are. You are good at a lot of things and always pushing your boundaries. You're not afraid to risk failure or to share things that don't go perfectly. And you keep learning. Thanks for everything you share.
Don't be insulted or anything, I do listen to your videos with full attention, but they are also the best background to other activities, like doing the dishes and stuff. You voice is calming, soothing even. Thanks for that.
Thanks for such fun, uplifting content!! I went through the same thought process about matching pickups with campers. I ended up buying a F-250 4x4, and I put a nice topper on it. I am so happy and have no regrets for not buying the camper. A wise friend advised me by saying, that it is an upward process and if you buy a camper, you will never go back down to buying a topper. You can always go up to a camper, if you want. Another friend just yesterday told me that she camps in the summer, in the back of her pickup, under her Tonneau cover.
It is always a good idea to be prepared for sleeping inside your vehicle in winter time. It happened to me one time that I had to sleep in my SUV during one winter night without heat insulation. I had to endure the cold and I learned my lesson. Be always prepared for anything outdoors and I think you’re doing a great job in your videos.
I took out my rear seat and back rest and it really opened up the space,I had a custom platform made and I love it, if you remove the passenger front seat you'll have even more room.
Sweet, I just set up my F-150 crew cab with basically the same setup. Used a seat extender (used for pets to sit/lay comfortably) for the back seats and put my bags under the hangover for extra support! Jackery Explorer 1000… Bougerv 28L fridge… tonneau cover… using military style duffel bags for temporary organization… eureka stove… nomad crate grill… purchased the window covers from Amazon (work amazing!)… and I got weathertech window deflectors for being able to keep my windows cracked (good buy!)…. It’s a start for me! Me and my golden - soon to be having our own adventures just like you 🤞
@madisonclysdalee I started following you recently after randomly coming across your video of hiking to the base of Everest. Now you are one of my favorite channels that I look forward weekly to watch. I find you very informative and extremely humble which is rare now days. Just wanted to give you a shoutout from the swamp of Louisiana!!
For my truck I ditched the canopy and went with low profile rack and a hardshell clam style rooftop tent. Keeps all the cab space free and you'll have tons of bed space for extra equipment and luxury items. If you really wanna get serious about storage and securing your gear you won't regret looking up Decked boxes for the bed
You would have had way more space if you kept the canopy and put the rooftop tent on top. Also the Decked systems are pretty inefficient space wise. New version is better, but still not optimal.
a great tip when car camping in the winter without engine if is raining, pull a large tarp over the veichle if you are going to camp a few days: When the car does not get wet, it does not cause so much moist inside and it is super cosy I also recommend bringing a biolite for long trips because you wont to bring gas
I love that you mention the problems with sleeping in a the cab. That you can't crawl through the window and get to the drivers seat. This is the #1 reason I don't have a truck and only will use an SUV. Because I'm not 5'4". Haha.
I just got a new Tacoma last year to take me out with my new hobby fly fishing. I’ve watched a couple of your videos this past week. That’s it. This was the motivation I need to get out there and just do it.
Hey, I have a 2022 Ford Ranger and what I did for my dog is.. 1) take the rear seats out.. unless you have kids they just get in the way 2) make a wooden "shelf" out of thick cabinet grade plywood that sits about 1-2 feet off of the floor and fits the curvature of the back seat and doors for a flush fit 3) made little pillars to support the shelf out of 2x2 inch stakes 4) coat the plywood shelf in carpet adhesive 5) cover in marine carpet (to avoid splinters, etc) I had planned on taking a large block of memory foam and cutting it to size but I found a crib mattress was a "close enough" fit and allowed me to cover it in crib sheets for easy washing. My dog loves it but if I ever find myself wanting to sleep in the truck I'd put a fifth pillar in the middle for extra support and sleep back there with the dog You get a ton of storage available under the platform and it has been my favorite addition to the truck so far. It also doubles as a "trunk" of sorts when driving around town where you can store valuables away from prying eyes.
Oh I forgot to mention that I made the legs attachable via machine bolts with recessed metal inserts into the legs so that you can easily unscrew the legs repeatedly without risking damage so you can take out the platform when you need to, should you want your back seats again
I'm truly delighted to be a subscriber of your channel. Your videos stand out for their informative nature, authenticity, and realism. Previously, the thought of spending a night in a vehicle was far from appealing to me, but recently, I've found myself increasingly confident and eager to try it. Thank you immensely for your efforts. I earnestly request you to continue producing such valuable content for your viewers. Rest assured, I'll make every effort to share your work with as many friends and family members as possible. 😊
Awesome! so glad for you . I have a 2021 Toyota Tundra double cab. I got a soft "roll up " tonneau cover. I cut out my 'stake pockets" along my bed rails and made a wood rack out of cedar 2x4's and lag bolts/carriage bolts, to carry my canoe! it work great and way cheaper than metal proprietary racks, and more versatile. I dont winter camp (yet). I'm a canoe camper at this point. but I fit all my hammock, tarp, fishing gear, cookware etc in my rig no problem. get 10ply tires for out back logging roads and you won't pop a tire! I got Goodyear Dura Trac and they have been worth the money! peace from New England USA and merry Christmas/ Happy NewYEAr !!!
you could try one of those electric blankets when it's very cold. Put it in your sleeping bag and it will only draw a very small amount of power from your battery.
SUGGESTION Madison, you dont have to buy a huge topper, but at least get a basic shell or one you can sit up in at a minimum if you do. Sit up wout being hunched over. Other YTs ive seen that cant sit up are crammed and always laying on their sides struggling to cook, organize, film, etc. If you dont do anything, you still may want to get a tarp or some system that gives you some cover when you leave your truck to get to your stuff, or sit under, etc, bc right now youre open to the elements once u leave your cab. I know this is down the road, but if u plan to keep your truck, id get it undercoated in Canada. The salts and road ice melt chemicals will eat your truck alive. Great vids as always and your signature is that you pack and go and make due with what you have. Fun to watch. Be safe and good luck navigating your Life's bumps at the moment.
Such exhilerating scenery. Thank you for sharing it with us! And congratulations on the new truck. You will be much safer in that on the rough back roads!
That truck is great and is going to make your travels so much easier and more versatile. I have never had a camper on mine and never will because it's harder to get around and carry a car topper for fishing. A canopy is great but make sure there is fabric lining inside because of heavy condensation. Condensation can build up in your truck cab in and behind upholstery better to sleep in the box it's easier to air out and get dry. Diesel heaters work wonders in this regard. Have fun.
Omg, went through the exact same thought process that you did! At first I bought an inflatable mattress that is designed for the back seat of a truck. Did 2 trips with that and decided to buy a shell/truck cap or as I like to call it a “beanie” . I have never regretted my decision. Good luck in your travels!
Not sure if anyone mentioned it yet but that Mr heater is safe indoors. I slept next to one in a shed/hunting shack many times and didn't expire ;) I love your truck. I'm too old now to be sleeping on the seat of my truck, great to be young ✌😁
Same here! I also slept in an enclosed snowmobile trailer with Mr Heater and I'm still alive as are my lab retrievers. I believe there's an automatic shut off if it puts out too much carbon monoxide. Always safe than sorry with the alarm though!
I have a Diamondback cover that I absolutely love! It is just about as waterproof as you can get. However, I suggest you still invest in some more bins for storage. No matter what you will be fighting the elements if you keep stuff in bags. Loading and unloading, scooting stuff around, etc. My preference is to use storage that has a hinged lid.
Mr Buddies are totally safe inside as long as you follow the manufacturers directions. In a small space you would only need low heat. So glad you are back! I trust youve seen what Mav did in the back of his pickup.
Been there done that in my campervan, ice inside the windows, curtains frozen to the windows, bedding frozen to the windows. It's no fun but I had no choice, it was home. I soon installed a wood stove and all was good.
If you sell the Ram1500, get a Toyota Tacoma, that's what I have and it is great. I am 6'2 and can sleep in the 5'0 bed if I leave the tailgate down and sleep at an angle. Other option is sleeping in the backseat but my legs have to be bent quite a bit lol. However, I also do not have a dog. And the Tacoma has one of the most reliable engine you could get.
Great content, good luck with your new job etc. Merry Christmas and Happy New year 🎉 Facinated with the wildlife you have to watch out for in Canada 🇨🇦❤
Found your video while I was looking for some tips and hints on fishing and now we both haven’t caught a fish yet :) Love how entertaining and informational your videos are!!
If you have the money, i suggest getting the hard topper for the back of the truck (the metal canopy as you called it). It's perfectly ideal for a good camper setup. You can cook inside there and there is plenty of head space if you are shorter, I am 5'7ft and i can sit up inside of mine. You can sleep much better and have room for the doggo. Buy a bedrug for a little extra comfort and some insulation. I could never sleep in my cab. Sell the tonneau cover and get a topper. Best of luck.
Nice truck ! It will take you a little bit to dial in your gear / equipment in the back and the most efficient way to arrange it ! Looks like a pretty good layout to me , perfect for sleeping like you have laid out , plenty of room for your pupper too ! Get out and go have fun in the frozen north , dress warm !
I LEAVE MY SORENTO RUNNING ALL NIGHT LONG WITH THE HEAT GOIN KEEPS IT SO COZY INSIDE PLUS ITS CUTE TO SEE THE TAILPIPE PUFFING OUT THE WARM FLUFFY SMOKE ONE MORNING IT WAS SO COLD THE TAILPIPE HAD A BIG ICICLE HANGING OUT OF IT SO CUTE GET A CAP FOR THE BED AND SEAL IT TO BACK WINDOW CAN HAVE A BIG SLEEPING SPACE
And that's what you mean by being ready!! What a great solution, and also enjoy the company and the warmth of Kyro 😀 Lovely to see Canada, and so beautiful to see it snowed 🥰 Have a wonderful time and always be extremely careful with carbon monoxide, for the rest... Keep enjoying and hope to see you soon Madison 🤗🥾🎣🏕️
Id recommend a camper shell (hard shell) set up with a rack attached to your hitch to store extra moto style gas cans. Or if it’s too cold to to sleep in your camper shell and you sleep in your truck you can run your truck for a while for heat, carrying extra gas for your vehicle is key when being off road for long periods of time. Propane heaters are not safe indoors what so ever. Even if it says “safe” for indoors, it means large spaces that are ventilated. One leak and you’re dead.
Yeah a jump box and air compressor for the tires plus some of those ramps for when you get stuck I forget what they’re called you can mount them on the side of the truck or on a roof rack just look up Toyota pre runners you’ll see what I’m talking about
Keep that truck! I have a Ram 1500 4x4 hemi 5.7 litre and those things are half ton tarantulas! It's gotten me out of some wicked situations. I have the same tires too BF Goodrich all terrains are the best!
They make air mattresses that fit in the gap of a truck back seat. Although, I have never used one. I have a truck bed tent (don't use the complicated and heavy Kodiak tents). I store everything in my bed with a Peragon Retractable Tonneau Cover. The cover folds up and comes off. I store it and the equipment in the back seat. Then I put my tent and mattress up in the bed. Also, get or make a car window screen to cover your window (from bugs) and always crack a window. It will keep the moisture out of your cab. I am from Florida, so I have no clue how to survive in the snow.
Always entertaining. Thanks! Just a little bit of info.( if you care, anyway :-) ) These electric knives with two serrated blades are ideal to cut through foam. They make a perfect, clean cut. Cheers!
I really like my Go Fast Camper (on a Tacoma, but I think they support the Ram too). Made and installed in Montana so a pretty reasonable outing for you.
For the use of the Mr Buddy please be careful since the manual warns to not use it in enclosed space (Canadian and Massachussetts version). Moreover it is recommended to have a low level carbon monoxide detector in these small spaces. They trigger much faster than the regular ones made for households, this is particularly important in tight spaces where CO accumulates very quickly.
You're just the coolest chick. I love your channel. Every video brings new adventures and discoveries and you're never phased by whatever lays before you. Your energy is immaculate. In a dream world, I wish that we could be friends. None of my girlies want anything outdoors and it's such a drag. Maybe one day I will get the courage to go it alone. Thanks for all the good vibes and inspo!
“Behind the chair” 😂. When I worked at a car dealership we had an inside joke about a guy who kept referring to the driver seat as a chair lol. Brings back some memories
Love the new set up, I currently have the same setup with a truck and sleep in the back. I find that with the seat down and the memory foam on the seat there is much more storage under the seats for items. I also have my fridge behind my driver seat and use is as a prop for the mattress.
Hello Madison, I'm looking forward to see what you do with the truck. I camp with a Taco and snugtop. I didn't fully think through my intentions when I got the cap. I think now I would lean toward a pop up cap/shell - with a diesel heater. Keep well, and pets for your doggie.
my F150 is flat all teh way so I can just roll out my mattress pads and go! yes I use a blow up mattress, hiking style, then put a yoga mat over that then a bivi,, 2 sleeping bags, very comfy, real pillows.., yup I sleep good, its a sleeper truck... lol everything else goes in back I have the same type of bed cover too... works for me, thick rubber mat in back, a couple roll out boxes I strap it all down and go...
I guess the appropriate question is how much do you fidget when you sleep, if you toss and turn a lot you’d probably be better on the memory foam, whereas is you as if you sleep relatively stationary then with your slim petite figure you’d probably be fine on the back seat leaving floor space for storage . Definitely a smart choice to sleep in the cab because it will retain heat longer and like you already mentioned you have access to the drivers seat if you need a rapid departure from somewhere.
Vehicles really don't offer much protection against the cold due to their lack of insulation, and steel can be much colder than being in a tent. Snow would insulate better than your vehicle. It's all a learning process. Happy camping
Don’t forget a pair of tire chains ⛓ hope that Ram does you well. Haven’t owned a Subaru but hear it’s the best for snow covered roads. I had a Ram with KO2 tires but sold it for a 4Runner, easier to maneuver in the trails, miss having a truck though.
Can't go wrong with a Ram, that it was the cheapest truck you could find surprises me though! Love the foam and window insulation idea, though I'm 5'8 but without a pup so I may be able to pull that off too :D
I slept in the back seat of my parents truck for 9 nights because we forgot a tent for me… Kudos to you if you can make it work, but I was so uncomfortable! Well, uncomfortable but dry. It poured for 3 of the 9 nights and my brother and his partner weren’t too stoked about being in a tent. 😂
Nice truck! I suggest upgrading your air compressor when you get a chance. You have larger truck tires. Whether you use it for emergencies or if you are actually planning on airing down you will need something better. I have a truck and I am guessing my compressor is more robust than yours but not by much given how expensive they can get. Trying to air up two tires that were kind of low really taxed the little guy and blew a fuse. If you are planning on airing down much then you will really need something much better in the $200 + range at least. I am not at the right place to get one yet but looking at the Morrflate.
Your body makes enough heat, you just need the right gear to retain it. I have a TETON Sports Celsius XL Sleeping Bag that is rated to -25F. I get the XL so I can put my regular flannel sleeping bag inside it when needed. If for some reason you are in -60F, you can put a space blanket between the 2 sleeping bags to retain more heat. Don't sleep with the space blanket on you, you will sweat and then freeze when you come out. Baffin Titan boots are comfort rated to -148F. Reply
@Madison Clysdale You're awesome! I have the same truck and sleep in the bed (under the tonneau cover) when I solo car camp. Consider getting the Mopar or Amp Research BedStep, it makes getting into the bed so much easier. Keep exploring and enjoying life with as few social cues as possible. 😊
@@HitMan._.420 2016 Ram 1500 Sport 4x4 Crew Cab (Brilliant Black Pearl): Mopar Flip Tonneau Cover, side steps, and bed step. Bilstein 5100 shocks set at 2.7in of lift, Core 4x4 panhard and track bars, 34x20 Falken Wildpeaks, 1.5in Bora Wheel Spacers, JBA Upper Control Arms, UPR Oil Catch Can, Diode Dynamics L/H Headlight and Driving Light LEDs, Carven Directfit Competitor Muffler, and Pedal Commander are the items I can quickly recall.
05 ram 1500 owner here, I used mine to travel to Maine in the -15. Everyone told me it wouldn't take it. But it ended up pulling jeeps stuck In snow. Make sure you know how to drive in 4x4 because the front traction.
When you were walking through items in the truck bed, you mentioned having a battery/jump starter. I would keep that inside the cab if you can to keep it warm, batteries like that can die or lose charge in the cold.
They are making versions now that use some of the battery power to heat the battery and can be used down to -40. If you don't have one of these you could stick it inside your clothing for half an hour to warm it up.
Looks like deer tracks. Lion tracks may be larger than the tracks of the dog. Snow or melt may have covered some of the tracks. Four wheels are not unstoppable, when it gets stuck, it's really stuck. River fording is governed by the height of the starter solenoid above the ground. If water gets up around the starter, the electrical system may ground out stalling the engine. Please be careful, Miss Clysdale. There is so much you do not know.

Love that you are back, was waiting on your videos 😍
Loving your videos!!! I really want to go and what you do!
New sub here! Love your vibes and camping style! Many Congratssss on the new truck. You both look GREAT!
I like your Videos, Felix from Zürich-Switzerland 😊
Hey Madison! missed your beautiful smile 😍. All the best for your new job. Keep posting 💕
Definitely be careful with those propane heaters. A good friend of mine died that way in her camper.
CO Sensor is a must.
Sorry for your loss.
Part of the charm of these videos is how genuine you are. You are good at a lot of things and always pushing your boundaries. You're not afraid to risk failure or to share things that don't go perfectly. And you keep learning. Thanks for everything you share.
Toyota Tundras have a power vertical rear window allowing you to crawl into the cab from a camper shell if you were to go that route.
Don't be insulted or anything, I do listen to your videos with full attention, but they are also the best background to other activities, like doing the dishes and stuff. You voice is calming, soothing even. Thanks for that.

2) make a wooden "shelf" out of thick cabinet grade plywood that sits about 1-2 feet off of the floor and fits the curvature of the back seat and doors for a flush fit
3) made little pillars to support the shelf out of 2x2 inch stakes

There’s a measure of comfort and safety sleeping in the truck 👍
You`re such a pure soul.
It is so cool that you do all this outdoor stuff. Thanks for the ideas.
You are one brave young woman! You and your dog are so adoreable.
Sorry prefer your dog. No telegram.
Yep. I did the same thing with an F 250 Crew Cab. The back seat is 6' so it was very comfortable. Good idea.

Hello. If you don't want a big truck, u can get a Ford Maverick Tremor with an overland bed rack. Small AWD truck for car camping.
I would look into the decked drawer system it will help tremendously with organizing and securing your gear.
That is a good way to die stop doing that coming from an auto tech.
And that's what you mean by being ready!! What a great solution, and also enjoy the company and the warmth of Kyro 😀
Lovely to see Canada, and so beautiful to see it snowed 🥰
Have a wonderful time and always be extremely careful with carbon monoxide, for the rest...
That pup loves you so much, just look how he looks at you
Madison, you have my admiration.Luck favors the brave and that is you.Looking forward to your winter hikes.👍
Good choice of tires. BFG's A/T have never left me stranded while off roading
Very cozy setup in the new rig 😎 Nothing quite as comforting as big kitty tracks in the snow!
Cheers!
Cannot be no good hiking without a good dog🙂
Love all your videos! Keep em coming! That green sweater looks fabulous on you.
Watching this for inspiration on camping in my cybertruck
I really like my Go Fast Camper (on a Tacoma, but I think they support the Ram too). Made and installed in Montana so a pretty reasonable outing for you.
Love the way your are with your dog :)
She takes great care of the guy!
really have enjoyed the videos I've watched, there's a peacefulness about them.
Another great video! Love the new truck. Can't wait to see how you build it out!
Mr Heater propane heater that come in many sizes and they work perfect and their indoor safe
“Behind the chair” 😂. When I worked at a car dealership we had an inside joke about a guy who kept referring to the driver seat as a chair lol. Brings back some memories
Nice setup! Now you need some ice fishing gear, hand 8 inch drill and a few tip ups.
Thanks 4 taking us along with You, Namaste 🙏☯️
Cool, you were in my town for the mountain hike :) The blood is from coyote mating season, they use it to attract suitors.
Good to know, thanks for that 👍
Love the new set up, I currently have the same setup with a truck and sleep in the back.
Take'er easy kid. Life is tough. Appreciate the videos. Congrats on the new job.
the benefits of being short, my 6'6 ass can't even comfortably lie down in the bed of a truck, incredibly jealous
my F150 is flat all teh way so I can just roll out my mattress pads and go! yes I use a blow up mattress, hiking style, then put a yoga mat over that then a bivi,, 2 sleeping bags, very comfy, real pillows.., yup I sleep good, its a sleeper truck... lol everything else goes in back I have the same type of bed cover too... works for me, thick rubber mat in back, a couple roll out boxes I strap it all down and go...
I love your new truck! You’ve fixed it up nice! I think Keri likes it!❤️😀🇺🇸🌏🚙
Great video you do very well with your camera for coverage of what you are doing and where you are going !! Nice job !!
Oh no you got rid of the Subaru. That’s the reason why I started to watch your videos. 😂.
Yeah might wanna get the back camper thing for truck bed
Thanks for bringing us along 👍🏻😁👍🏻❣️
I took my back seats out and built a platform on the storage area. Can fit two people if Needed.

I love the truck! It seems like you have more options now. Really cool! I think you look great in that truck! Congrats!!!
Can you tell about the truck specs pls ??

I enjoy your content, especially when you're down in the USA. I travel to lots of the same spots. Much love from West Kelowna (Shannon Lake)!
the biggest car and no space ;P
Happy Holidays! Have fun with the new truck, hopefully it will work out and serve its purpose well.
05 ram 1500 owner here, I used mine to travel to Maine in the -15. Everyone told me it wouldn't take it. But it ended up pulling jeeps stuck In snow. Make sure you know how to drive in 4x4 because the front traction.
Mate , nice to see you again . I was asking for longer videos and you disappeared , from now on I won't ask for longer videos again : )
Very nice truck, wow the truck handled the snow with no problem 👍
Thanks for letting us tag along.
