love how she treats Blue like a prince, so heartwarming.
Yeah he has no coat!
Blue needs non stop belly rubs!!!
From a woman who is going to be 70, I absolutely love how LARGE you are living. Enjoy every single minute of this adventure with Blue. You will one day tell the story of the fun night you made chili in a cup in the back of Poe while in the wilds of Alaska during -55 degree temps. What a memory!
@roamingreckless Maria please consider buying insulated blackout shades for your front and back window for better security and warmth please.🙏🏾 (I have seen some comments that Alaska is "safe" and all this good stuff.... but I'd rather you be cautious than not.)
they make great shades in 9mm size .
I know right !
That is Alaska you will not find people breaking into your car outside of Anchorage, most people do not lock their house or car up there and every person has a firearm on them. Including the little old ladies so you are safe, if someone sees something happening everyone in the area steps up. The only safety she needs to worry about is from Jack Frost he is a Brutal asshole!
Card board works too
Reflectix works too
So clever taking Blue into Home Depo for his walks in such cold temperatures.
Wishing you both the best going through his treatments. Kisses and hugs to beautiful Blue 😘😘🐾.
I love re-watching these videos to see Blue. I think I'm obsessed with Maria's great personality and focus. Still can't believe Bubby is no longer here.
its very funny the contrast RUclips put me through... first I was watching Korean car camping videos with their luxury set ups and delicious cooking, then I end my night with Ria videos to keep me humble.
Same here 😂😂😂😂😂
I think I was watching Lost in the Pond. I think this channel is really winning the algorithm
Hahahah ❤
Stay warm and stay safe!
Bear in mind at those temps mechanical breakage occurs without warning, fluids become closer to solids, fuel lines especially diesel freeze. I live in Alberta where this occurs often. Break down in town is not pleasant but outside of town can be deadly.
Get your tomato paste from the squeeze tube, more economical. Most recipes only need a tablespoon or two.
Cento makes a good one. Comes in a box and is in a tube. Game changer for me! No waste!
i use that one as well ^
as a personal chef it has the best flavor in my opinion/less waste and convenience (compared to every form it’s stored in)
I have seen -86F in North Pole Alaska in 89, you are playing with your life at that kind of cold. I know it's doable but is it worth it. Now you really know what Chilled to the bone feels like. On a side note I have many friends and family up there, if you are struggling I can point you in the right direction. You are now in the scariest and coldest part of winter.
I fear one day these videos will suddenly end. I love this girl to the moon and back however there are to many variables that could happen in that degree of cold that I won't even mention.
that's impressive ....i saw minus 68, also in North Pole but in like 1983 ish. Slept in tents on a climb at minus 38....
Now do you think you can repeat the chili again?
@@jimmiller4951 All it takes is 5 minutes of bad luck in those temperatures.
@@scotyount6226 Its all ways colder by Chea lakes if it was -50F in the Pole it would be -55F at the lakes.
Oops I love Blue so much he is such a beautiful dog. I wish he will live so much longer and be cured from cancer❤❤❤❤❤
Your dog get's chemo! My boxer dog went through 6 months of it but he is awesome almost 2 years later! Good for you.
I owned a differential shop for 6 years 2 years ago. I now rebuilt transmission and differentials for GM, you got a pinion seal leaking on the front pinion. Keep fluids in it. It will be okay. But get it replaced soon.
Did she understand???
Hey Doc.... I have a G80 that does not seem to want to unlock easily at times,,, It gets stuck!!!! Going Forward, backwards,, circles both ways does not unlock it sometimes... any ideas ????? Does it lock itself as you go down the road,,, both wheels turning faster than 120 rpm or is it a difference of 120 rpm that causes it to lock ???? I thought it was a difference of 120rpm between the wheels but this is doing this on dry road no abuse peel outs or any thing like that.....Thanks !!!!
I guess she did !!! LOL
Hi Maria they have two burner portable Ovens that can fit on the counter that you can actually cook with and hook up to the jackery that way you can have more homemade meals all you have to do is make sure that you follow the instructions not only the ingredients sometimes as you get better you'll start to make your own recipe🤫
You need an Amazon wishlist or something so we can send you a cookbook lol. It would help to have a second reference in situations like this.
It’d be awesome if she did a segment where she picked a recipe from a subscriber comment and made it in a video! That’d be fun.
@user-pn6pc6bs4z Yes, I love this! I watch Mav and he does that. ❤ I also second the Amazon wishlist!
You need a webasto diesel coolant heater plumbed in with Poe's cooling system to keep Poe's engine warm enough to start. You could even run the glycol loop under the rear floor to help with radiant heating and/or as a backup heat source.
I'm amazed they let you out unsupervised.
My dad feels the same
why so mean? what an azzhole
😂😂😂
@@roamingreckless😅😅
Rad to watch Roaming Reckless on a stormy night here in the north Bay Area. Hope the mighty Blue is progressing for the better
-55F!? 😳 Yikes! You’re a brave woman. Blue needs a winter coat even for inside the truck seeing how water freezes while your driving. Sheez. Regarding tomato sauce, tomato paste and diced tomatoes…lol, tomato paste has a more intense flavor than tomato sauce and enhances the recipe, tomato sauce is thicker than the liquid in diced tomatoes so without it the dish might be more bland, and diced tomatoes obviously have nice little chunks of tomatoes. So each brings something good to the dish.
Agree 💯 %
And shoe/sock
Brave? What is brave in that dumb and liferisking behavior?
Blue WAS SUCH AH GOOD BOY I MISS HIM DO MUCH & HE LUVED YOU AS MUCH AS YOU LUVED HIM !!!🔥🔥🔥💖💖💖😘
Wait blue is no longer here ? So sorry if so. That just made me super sad
I honestly lived in that exact same weather in the Army stationed there and we had run our diesels 24/7 so you are doing that right. I was stationed in Fairbanks for 3 years and did cold weather training in Delta Junction at FT Greely which I think has been renamed but not sure. Be safe
One of my favorite episodes !! Can you please participate in a Chili Cookoff this summer?
You are genuinely funny. Some RUclipsrs try to but you are just so entertaining. I am so addicted😂😂😂😂😂😂 to
Xander Budnick is a good one..he's quite entertaining and genuinely funny guy. Down to earth, too.
Praying for Sweet Blue. He's my favorite Good Boy.
Your nervous laugh always gets me.
Hey Ria; chili is so easy. Brown beef in pan with enough olive oil to cover bottom of pan. Add beans & tomato sauce. Tomato paste is to thicken the chili. Let simmer 20-30 min Enjoy!
I wish I could spend two hours with you teaching the basics of cookery
I live in minnesota where sometimes it gets colder than alaska! We do have people pass from freezing every year. Be safe and educated when exploring these temps
Out of all your cooking escapades I never saw this one coming...browning ground beef in a Jet Boil!? I think even Martha Stewart would have to give you props for your resourcefulness! 🤣 Really enjoying your singing - you are the songbird of your generation! 🐦😜Hugs to Blue! 💙
In order to make chili cook the ground beef with the onions maybe in a frying pan first. Once its cooked pour it into the large pot. I use diced tomatoes and tomato sauce in mine, along with a can of drained kidney beans. Season it with chili powder. No beef broth at all. I had to subscribe to your channel after watching a few of your videos which came up on my feed. You and Blue are living the life. I wanted to do what you are doing, but I am now age 66 and have chronic back pain so I cannot drive miles per day. Stay warm!
I’m so happy I stubbled upon your channel I literally wait every week for your upload. You inspire me to just start my dream of car/van camping🤗 Praying for you and blue through these tough times but I just wanted to say you’re doing an amazing job Maria❤️
I am new to this channel, and so far I support your travels! I’ve always wanted to do basically what you’re doing and I think that’s amazing!!!
Maria, I love love your Aussie Blue!!!!! 💙💙💙💙💙 You guys make a great team!!👍
I pray 🙏🙏🙏 that Blue's days are good and tolerable and energized in light of his chemo
therapy!!
I had a best friend named "Jake", he was an Aussie too. We were just like you guys,we're attached at the hips. We were inseparable except he left me (he's in doggie heaven already)
in 2015 at the age of 16 yrs. I miss him terribly!
Be well you both mostly please be safe!!
Your friend from California "Eddie".🤗🙋♂️
Cooking is a learned skill. We are not born knowing how to cook! LOL Cooking is super easy, though, as long as you can read. ALWAYS read the instructions before you start. I'm sorry your service went down. I also hope you are staying close to help in that temperature. My daughter lives in Fairbanks; the cold is nothing to mess with! I would have just bought the diced tomato. I owned a restaurant for 26 years. I love to cook, still. Good job winging it!
Cotton is a very poor choice of fabric in cold temperature.
Its refreshing to see someone learning cooking this way.
Tomato paste is meant to thicken the chili and build fond (the brown bits in the pan - tons of flavor) when you cook the beef and onion together. the tomato sauce probably adds volume to the recipe. The dice is for the actual chunks you eat, it helps add a different texture so its not just all beef.
Great job making a chilli you loved! Now comes the fun part. Start adding stuff you love and make it your own. Good add ins can be peppers, bbq sauce, dark chocolate, or spicy peppers like jalapenos.
This video just kept getting more chaotic and I loved it 😂 you should make this a new segment where you buy ingredients and throw away the recipe lol
Hey Maria this is for blue. I think they make a ❤ portable treadmill that you can put Blue on inside the truck or outside the truck I'm not quite sure but I seen it somewhere and I've been looking for it I can't find it maybe you can so that's for blue. Btw beautiful best friend & son❤
“Martha Stewart In Prison” I literally spit my beer hearing that!
Tbh I feel like your being more fkc it and go for it. Which I enjoy!! Stay safe and keep the randomness alive😀
I'm screaming at the screen, Noooo! 😮 That was so stressful watching the chili cooking but then again, it's hard to mess up chili. Good on you! Prayers for Blue. He's Sooooo precious!
your love for your dog is awesome.❤
Hi Maria, Im new to your channel. The good thing about camp food is that everything tastes better in that setting. I think you are just so grateful for food, it all tastes good. I was a cold weather backpacker, with my dog. But never in those kind of temperatures. Best wishes from the lower 48.
Marias new cookbook,
Cooking the best foods the worst ways on the road in my Defender. 😂😂😂
I’d buy it 💵💶💷💴😊
Good video. Coldfoot is up @ the Artic Circle. Now to tell what you should've done from my experience. Have a electric blanket. A sleeping bag that's good for 20 below. Also get a sleeping bag liner
When Ria puts on the glasses she can pull anything off 😅 like chili in a jet boil 👌
I used to have a Sheltie in Wisconsin that couldn’t go outside when it was about -25 with -50 windchill. Glad you have shoes for your Blue. Back then they didn,t have doggie shoes. Be careful out there. Your sucha good doggie mama!
You and blue be safe. . . Blessings to you both. ❤🙏
First time here! Ok! I might be hooked already! Not only did Blue get my attention right away! Gorgeous boy! But you are super entertaining! You are living the dream! Super brave girl! ❤️🙏🏻
I’m proud of u Ria! You made good chile! That diesel heater is a life saver . Blue’s adorable 💙🥶💙
I have just started watching your videos with your dog. It is so sweet how much you care about your dog. Man and womans best friend.❤
Aren't you afraid the truck might break down eliminating heat in temps this cold?
That's all I was thinking about. If her equipment fails, she's dead.
Good for you for being so adventurous! You will never regret getting to travel to so many places.
I lived on the North Slope of Alaska and we saw -72 on our thermometer before it broke. Please be careful as extreme cold can be very dangerous if one is not prepared, or if something goes wrong. I know you will be fine. You have a great dog…love him. Looking forward to seeing your next video. Thank you for sharing.😊
Awe I love your dog!!! Keep on keeping on! Stay Warm and Be Safe! Nice you're Italian!
Got to admit it when you took a taste out of that chili I immediately got a craving for it now I can't get it out of my head and must have some soon.
Not me stopping what I'm doing to
watch another awesome reckless
video💙🐾🐕👋 You're rocking
those glasses🤓. Blue is a 🌟⭐
Just recently found your channel and LOVE it! Working my way backwards and this one has me LOLing so bad at you cooking. I am screaming at tv to (after you cooked meat) add it all to the big pot and mix it and then spoon out and heat up what you needed. Like in tears over here!😂😂
Oh !!!! Maria, I worry about both of you so much!! Blue looks like he's concerned about you too. Please take care, BE SAFE!!!!
I agree . Blue looks concerned too ❤❤❤sending prayers to both of them
Every time I watch you pouring your coffee it looks so refreshing! 🙂
LETS GOOOOO MARIA!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sending hugs to Azul and you.
Winter 1973 thru fall 1979 due to Uncle Sam (my travel agent)(US Army) I lived in Delta Junction / Ft. Greely / and Fairbanks...Actually saw -82*F with chill factor of 127*F..... Have slept outside on the ground in Army Artic sleeping bags with temps of -45*F and was comfortable.... Some people in the Lower 48 states have no real understanding of surviving of these severe Artic weather conditions...... Hopefully you will get to see the "Northern Lights" in all of their natural glory....Safe travels and make memories....
One of your best videos Maria. The next up grade for Poe should be to insulate Poe and to get AC for the heat of the summer not to far away. You treat Blue so so humanly and God will reward you for taking care of Blue like you do. Stay safe and warm. 👍🙏💙
Hello Maria. I'm a new subscriper from Long Island NY and am an old old dog. Ever since I found your channel, I've been binge watching all your videos and WOW are they interesting. So glad you are able to keep your cool with all your adventure bumps. My thoughts are with you and Blue, while he goes through his treatment. Sending positive energy your way.
you are an inspiration for us all , Maria.. thank you for YOU.. hugs to BLUE, God Bless you in everything you do. MWAH
Please be so careful. I really worry about you in those dark places. I certainly hope you do have some sort of protection. Love your videos ❤. Your pup is so awesome 😊!
I agree with Vickie Edwards,
Please be more careful when you are going to so many different places by yourself, you are a beautiful young lady and I would hate to see you get hurt. I have a daughter and 20 year old granddaughter, I would worry myself sick if they would go camping by themselves or did some of the things you do. I certainly hope that you have some type of protection inside your vehicles, if nothing else, mace or bear spray a stun gun or something! It wouldn't hurt to have an actual gun.
You are such a good mom to Blue
And she seems like a wonderful dog. I thought you were just "cute as a button" trying to figure out exactly how to make chili.
I always enjoy so much all of your videos, please continue making more of them. But please try to up your security about 200% more.
You take care and always ENJOY!!!
You are hilariously wreckless...lmao. Good job on the chili. I kept laughing imagining your father talking to someone at Better Help...." I can't keep up with my idiot daughter!"..."You would not believe what she doing now!"......😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂
I would suggest buying a can of chilli, cheaper and no cooking!! I just started watching and wondering why you parked so far away from Home Depot when there was parking up close? Also, you should always be wearing a winter beanie and gloves, even walking into HD. Loving this!
Girl, you did an amazing job. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I didn't start cooking til around 28, so i'm only like 3 years in. You're gonna love your own food partially from being proud of yourself, and then just being surprised that it turns out good lol. Cooking is an art too. The smallest changes can make something great and it doesn't have to be down to a perfect science
You are one bad ass woman!!!
And the way blue looks at you, he knows he's being taking care of 100%
Maybe pick up a regular little butane stove? It seems like it would be way easier for meals than just the jet blue. I have one it packs up nice in a little case and it’s basically the same as a single stove burner. It’s nice. Just seems like it would be easier. lol.
I pray for you and Blue every night.
Ria you should insulate your fuel lines and and radiator hoses, beyond minus 40 Celsius everything liquid can freeze, did you make cold weather adaptations before you arrived in Alaska this winter?✌️❤️🇬🇧
Get shopping cart next time and put Blue in it to ride him over to the store. 😁
I lived in a 1977 orbits travel trailer for year's here in Alaska year round you know it's cold when you wake up to your cooking oil gelled up in the morning
Alright, i been talking trash about your lack of actual " camping ", -55 !? The fact you're even outside in that kind of weather is str8 gangster. No more trash talking from me,you earned my respect. I'm from Arizona, anything below 40 is unbearable for me.
Maria, before adding any seasoning to the meat, drain the liquid fat out then add your seasonings to the meat so you aren't draining out the seasonings with the liquid. Great job using the jetboil when there was nothing else was available. Being Italian helped you get the job done I feel and say hello to Blue for me! Love love love Blue and praying for him every day! He is going to beat this 100% Go Blue!!! 🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟💌💌💌
I've said it before and I'll say it once again...Maria, you are hysterical!
you should maybe look at wearing something other than cotton. i would recommend wool in those temps.
Take it from a Forest Ranger. This is beyond stupid at minus 55 degree. The time to see Alaska is August and September. If Poe were to freeze a piston or damage the crankshaft from extreme cold, you and Blue are history. I thoroughly enjoy your post but this is beyond reason.
Na we’d be aight. I’ve got back up heat source and a satellite phone for emergencies. Contacts in the area.
@@roamingreckless Phones fail. Backup systems/plans fail. Thank goodness the Good Lord does not forget us when we find ourselves in such situations. I apologize for being so blunt. As an old Indian friend always told me, "Do not let the Great Spirit find you in the shadows", whenever I was in serious backcountry or situations.
@@USFSranger I grew up in this kind of cold climate. Everyone knows of people who froze to death, my neighbor did freeze too. The stress on the dog might be incredible, not the enviornment to be when you need chemo! This kind of cold is very hard on the living being and a vehicle can fail or not be able to start any time. Fail to see the point and rationality of traveling Alaska while sleeping in the car in winter, it proves or achieves nothing.
Haha your deedle deet deet deedle song woke me back up!! Too funny..
That sounded more like Southwest stew!
Yum
Amen, amen, amen! This is the second roaming reckless video I have watched and tbh I am concerned for both Maria and Blue. Initially, I thought “this is cool content” but then I got worried quick as in that first video I was watching (where she rented the yurt) she didn’t know to open the flue on the woodstove…causing the yurt to fill with smoke and preventing the wood from getting enough oxygen to start an actual fire and thus heat the yurt. So her solution was to hike like 2 miles back to the defender in the middle of the night. YIKES!
Comments like the ones above from the forest Ranger and the nurse are not to be snarky or alarmist, but these are people who know better than you and imho it’s so dismissive to brush it off like “we’ll be alright”… not to mention, WHEN something goes wrong and you have to use your satellite phone you will be putting others in danger when they attempt to come to your rescue. If they’re even able to get to you in time in such harsh conditions. My brother-in-law was a Coast Guard helicopter pilot in Kodiak for 5+ years and every call that they answered put him and his colleagues at risk as well so I’m extra sensitive to the safety of those brave first responders.
I just don’t get it…why are you planning to drive further north into colder temps? Why brush off these informed, concerned comments? Imho you’re playing with your own life not to mention Blue’s, and while I admire an adventurous spirit, I don’t understand why? What are you trying to prove? Seems very Chris McCandless/Timothy Treadwell in nature to me…yes these are totally different scenarios but you seem to have the same air of false confidence and it’s hard for me to watch in real time tbh. You are a beautiful, bold young woman and Blue is a stunning sweet dog not to mention an innocent party so yeah it concerns me as this is indeed reckless.
Also these comments, sheesh! It irks me that 90% seem to be more concerned with the chili recipe and the difference between tomato paste and tomato sauce than the extreme scenarios she’s repeatedly putting herself in 🙄😬
"I'm like Martha Stewart...in prison..." 😂💀
It was awesome seeing you at Home Depot! Thanks for saying hi!
Thanks for the support! 🫶

Mmmm, i hope you have talked to some people from Fairbanks about your trip north. Just seeing the way you dress and the equipment you have....you don’t seem prepared. I lived in Wiseman (close to Coldfoot) for a year and I'm from Alaska - and I'm telling you girl, what you are planning is no joke. There is no cell service up there, very few people, and no 911. By no means do i think you're incapable or that a girl shouldn't do it alone - after all i did it for a year on my own when i was 24 - but i knew what i was doing and i had lived in Fairbanks for several years before i went north. Please reach out to someone and get help prepping for your trip - weather in Alaska is often fatal! I will say one thing that may save your life: if anything happens to you on the Haul road - get a ride from a trucker! There will be nobody else. And if you wait too long you will freeze to death.
As an Alaskan, I agree, this is so dangerous. Driving this road, especially in winter conditions, is serious business. There will be no help available unless a truck driver passes by. Rental cars are not even allowed on this road during the summer months. If you break down and are lucky enough to find someone that is willing to go out there to help tow you back to town - you will be waiting hours (maybe even a days) and the tow bill be in the thousands. Please be safe and don’t push the limits with Mother Nature. It isn’t worth it.
Who ever wrote this letter God bless you that love
Haha, love your laugh! Thanks for another video! I hope you and Blue are doing good while off the road. Coffee is life girl. God bless you both!
This was the hottest mess ive ever witnessed. Most of us would have just ate a protein bar lol.
I would get a notebook and start adding recipes as you see them so when you do have technical issues, you have all the instructions handy.
Living in Fairbanks, AK is hard. Glad you two are doing great. Safe travels
@Ria great job with the chili! The tomatoe paste is to thicken the consistency, i usually use the canned sauce, and then I use my impeccably clean hands to crush whole canned tomatoes, and normally 1 or 2 teaspoons of paste. I’m new to your channel, but want you to know Blue is in my prayers. I just love him! He is adorable! My dogs are my children so I get where you’re coming from.
This is the first of your videos I’ve watched and now I’m hooked. It’s rare to find another nomad battling an Alaskan winter. Was laughing with you the whole time, most people will never experience the pure exhilaration of such frigid temperatures. Safe travels Ria and hope everything works out for Blue.
12:07 - the different types of tomatoes. The tomato sauce is used as a liquid in the chili. The paste is concentrated tomato flavor to add more flavor and body to the chili. It is also a simple form of adding in umami flavor. You could sub it out for soy or Worcestershire sauce and a squire of ketchup. The diced tomato is to add in texture and visual appeal to the dish.
Come home to Michigan for Blue! Take care and always love from Dearborn Michigan ❤
I just discovered your channel tonight. I wished I had had the courage to live such an adventure when I was young. I hope I can do this now that I am retired!
I couldn't help worry that your Jet Blow would tip over and give you a serious burn. Maybe you could rig up a way to give it some stability.
You're an impressive beautiful young lady! Many blessings on your adventures!

Oh dear! I feel for you! I love to cook so I'll give you a pointer! Go for the 2 Alarm chili mix (if it's available) it has directions on the back of the package! If not, opt for plain Ole chili mix! Same thing! I only use one can of tomato sauce 😬. Good job though!! Glad you made it work!
Great adventure. The cold has been intense this last week. We are in the Palmer/wasilla area. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything. I have a heated garage and a lift if the truck needs any service. Let’s hope it really warms up soon. We are all tired of the super cold.
Love your dog blue hope he's OK. and your keeping safe you are ok ide love one of your stickers love you both love nigel from England
Someone's likely can answered already, but crushed/diced/peeled/sauce/paste forms of tomatoes is a shortcut to achieving particular textures in a dish. You could also just use one or two whole tomatoes, applying the desired textural transformations.
