MacBook Pro Camera Issues

  • The MacBook Pro oozes premium-ness from every angle. However, since 2016, it has had its fair share of problems due to poor design or engineering. Plagued by the initial keyboard issues, things got worse with the Flex cable issue, making the display unusable.
    The camera issue, as I call, the CameraGate, is probably a similar problem that has been overlooked or received lesser coverage, because, frankly, how many people actually use the FaceTime Camera on their Macs?
    Apple should take responsibility and provide a repair program for those suffering such issues.
    UPDATE:
    The device is with Apple Authorised Service center awaiting diagnostics to “determine the cause” of camera failure.

    This exactly I’m going through and now formatting the MacBook hoping it will fix the issue

    • @SuperTubeDoc
      @SuperTubeDoc  2 года назад +1

      If the issue is just like what I have described, I don't think formatting will work. It requires the display to be replaced. A bloody expensive fix for a non functioning camera.
      However, if your device is a 13inch pro and less than 4 years from date of purchase, the issue maybe taken care of for free.

      @@souravlahoti this isn't going to go away with formatting. You need to take it back to apple. It's a flex cable issue and the whole display assembly needs to be replaced.

      Apple is a fucking scam. All these companies are. they sell you expensive ass product, add on a 2 year warranty for a price. then conveniently my camera stops working 3 months after my warranty is up (2020 Macbook Pro 16") and all the Geniuses have to offer is to replace display for $600, or trade in current laptop for 2023 version. WOW. oh and one guy told me to just buy a webcam..well shit, why didn't i think of that? how convenient 2000k+ spent on machine and then i have to walk around with some flimsy webcam attached. they have no empathy for what you're going through. these laptops are a ways to make a living for some people, for example I have interviews to do, team meetings, podcasts, so many things I need the camera for and they treat it like 'oh well just trade it in'...like bruh that would cost me more money!! how is that a solution? Just admit that you want people to constantly have issues and come back for new products on repeat. I wasn't planning on making such a huge purchase from Apple so soon given the fact that my last purchase isn't making me happy. Mind you I'm not new to macs at all, I've done design work using them for years. I had a 17" 2010 Macbook Pro, when it was 9 years old it sounded like a plane taking off but it still functioned and one day it actually fell off the couch when my dog jumped up and the display was completely pixelated, unusable. I thought this is it. I went to apple and they looked at my laptop like it was a fossil, the guy was super nice though he took it in the back and opened it up said he moved something around and it worked! charged me ZERO, that was in 2018. Things have took a nosedive with Apple since the pandemic even more. I mean investing 600$ to fix a camera is not even worth it. because if my camera stopped working for literally no reason, i didnt drop the laptop, it didnt get wet, then clearly soon some other shit will go wrong with the the display i see this camera issue as a start to a bigger issue.

      So, if you have the 13in model, you may be in luck. HOWEVER, you have 4 years from date of purchase to get it resolved. Same with keyboard issue. If you have the 15in model like mine, you’re out of luck. Try talking with ASC in your city or Genius. See if they can help you in any way.

    Interesting. I have a Macbook Pro 2017. I and others are reporting camera failure after upgrading to Monterey. For me, the camera appears in hardware report, green light goes on and off as expected when attempting to use but the image is black. I have downgraded with fresh install and time machine system where camera had been working, and Windows partition on same Mac, all camera is not working. So, it doesn't seem likely that all of these people have hardware failure only discovered after upgrading to Monterey. For me, it no longer working on older Mac systems and the Windows system seems to indicate Monterey must have a firmware update that breaks the camera. Again Apple should step up, admit and fix this issue.

    • @SuperTubeDoc
      @SuperTubeDoc  2 года назад +1

      In my case, I was expecting the same and I did try with a roll back, it did not help. The camera would show up if the screen was kept in certain angles and it would later stop working(as you can see in the video). I think the software update breaks the hardware

      The only fix would be replacing the display. If you have a 13in model, it is under coverage for flexgate for a period of 4years and maybe replaced for free. Or else, you're looking at a $500-600 expense.

    • @SuperTubeDoc
      @SuperTubeDoc  Год назад

      i'm no expert, but i don't think you can replace the flex cable. that should have been the cheapest/simplest option to fix this issue. but, you know, apple!
      the flex cable is soldered to the display, hence replacing is not an option. the only way out is replacing the display assembly.

      not worth the trouble. besides, you will be getting a new display with the SAME flawed cable. i'd suggest going for a new laptop- the MacBook Air M1 is quite good when compared. it does take some getting used to in terms of display size.

      Oh lucky you. If it's got Insurance. You'd rather take it back to apple and tell em that the issue persists. Any work done on a machine comes with some 30 or 90 day warranty(please confirm)
      The camera is not only for videos, but also used for ambient light detection. That would affect your keyboard backlight and screen brightness. It's not a big deal, but still.
