Actually it would be faster to take the surface area of Lake Massawippi divided by the area of all the snow geese in the video and then multiply that by the average area a snow geese takes up which is about 1.35 square feet.
Every time geese flew in a "V" shape over the house: Grandpa- "Do you know why one side is longer than the other?" Me- "No, why?" Grandpa- "Because there's more geese on that side. Huehuehue!"
Beautiful clip. I'm impressed that you managed to stay silent while you were watching. I think I would have been squealing with delight 😊. Made me think of this... *WILD GEESE BY MARY OLIVER* You do not have to be good. You do not have to walk on your knees For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting. You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves. Tell me about your despair, yours, and I will tell you mine. Meanwhile the world goes on. Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain are moving across the landscapes, over the prairies and the deep trees, the mountains and the rivers. Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air, are heading home again. Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting - over and over announcing your place in the family of things.
Max (1one of the goose leader): this is amazing, this migration is awesome Jack: ikr lol Jerry: wait can in just rest in the pond a little bit:( Philipine: Jerry just shuttup and migrate cause this is cool Gary: Oh and your the last one to take off jerry:/
This was actually a small group compared to what has been on the lake at other times. There is a reservoir in Victoriaville, an hour or so away from us that you can often see over 100,000 Snow Geese at a time in the fall. Now that is just an incredible sight to see and hear!!!
Truly amazing video, Sue !
'look at all those chickens'
How did you count them so quickly?
That was terrifyingly beautiful
There are 10,325 of them exactly. I counted the legs and then divided by two!

Actually you are all way off, you could easily just ask the geese how many of them decided to show up and i'm certainly they'd be happy to tell you..

It was an estimate given to me by birders with much more experience than me in counting large flocks like this.
So cool. I would have guessed more than that : )
