Family, flock formations in the begining disintergrate in gathering as they try to land and then many realize they are not with their group. Confused they take off again. Next few days will be spent trying to find their partners and chicks. While many reconnect, others don't get back with the members of their flock.
Heard the geese from far off, looked up to see which direction they were coming from. They were a long ways south coming towards Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Another group was coming from a little more to the east than the first group and started to join the first group going in a circle directly overhead of me with a lot of squawking and circling just like they were greeting each other. Another group from southwest joined the other two groups, circling and a lot of squawking. This went on for some time, my neck was getting sore from looking up and then one group after the other started to leave. The geese went in groups to northwest, north and northeast. I have never in my 74 years seen this before. I have asked other birdwatchers and no one seems to have observed anything like this. Sure would like more informative on this phenomenon---anyone out there??
That's fascinating Rita. I think you were pretty blessed to be in the right place at the right time. Thanks for sharing that. Maybe somebody else will come along who has experienced this phenomenon and find your comment.
I know, it was something to see. We have some pretty big flocks around here this year too, but not that big. Lots of flocks with 2 or 3 hundred or so. Sometimes they will all move in on a small lake, and there will be thousands, but then when they leave, they break up into smaller flocks. I'm pretty sure the wheat farmers hate them though. They do thousands of dollars damage to the wheat.
That's Awesome!! Very Heartwarming to see. Delaware used to have Canadian Geese by the hundred thousands. Rarely saw a Snow Goose. Do you get the big flocks of Canadian's too??
+Bart Koolbeans There are many more of the Canada Geese, but they seem to move around in smaller flocks of 500 or fewer. They are everywhere it seems, though. Even in the city limits, on any large patch of green fescure, such as golf courses, and sports fields.
The dark birds are just blues the juvie snows are gray to almost white and ross are white as well save for about 100 or so blue phase the rarest goose in North America.
That is a lot of geese. Our Canadian geese don't migrate far, they are the large birds we are familiar with. Too much water, food, parks and golf courses. Last week there had to be 1,000 on the high school football fields in our town.
+Craig Arndt Sounds like the Canada gees behave about the same there, as here. They spread out in the summer, but have huge flocks in the winter, and start looking for wheat fields, sports fields, and golf courses.....anywhere where there is fescue.
Have seen them like this comming into an alfalfa field like a crowded airport say 100,000 give or take. Took about an hour. As we shot 6 each they ALL jumped up @ once like a column of feathers and deafening squawk. We crept up alongside a 10 ft berm and the sentry goose never saw us until it was too late.
That would have been something to see. There are so many of them that I guess that's why the limit on them is so high. They can do tremendous damage to wheat fields around here.
4,000 of any bird in one place would be a magnificent sight. It would just be a wild guess, but I think I would have guessed about 10K for this flock, but that might be way off. All I know is that it was by far the most geese I had ever seen at once except in a national wetland area when they were migrating through.
Wow, what a sight. I can imagine how loud that was!
It was quite a sight, and I had a very similar experience today. The flock wasn't quite as big though.
These birds always land on the field at my school when I was a kid. 😂
It was like walking through a minefield LMAO
Lol, I know exactly what you are talking about.
Wow!
Indeed!
Impressionante viu ver os gansos selvagens aí tudo junto tá muito bonito
Yes, it's amazingly beautiful. Especially in person.
That is one big gaggle…
Indeed it is.
Look at all those chickens.
OK.
Oh my gosh Jim, over a million views! Thats something to be quit proud of!!😋
Thanks! It is kind of surprising how that video really took off. It has cooled down quite a bit lately though.
I know this is an old video, but man, look at all those patterns. This is a natural painting. Love it!
Thanks! It was quite a sight.
@@ObservingNature Absolutely agree!

Thanks for the information, Anthony!
I like to imagine they’re all saying “no, that’s my spot”
Lol, yep, that fits perfectly :)
Very cool
Thanks Tara!
We and our space. ...great vocal power of unity. ...sky's pride ....sky's pride. ...!!!!!!
They are majestic.
麻煩嗎
I would see them fly way up in the sky flying over to lake Erie
Yes, I bet there are lots of them up there.

this is natures beauty and shouldnt be disturbed
I can't argue with that, Joe. It was a sight to see.
Except they're so overpopulated they're destroying the tundra
Facts
Saw something similar to this on the St. Lawrence River except they weren’t landing. They were taking off. Thousands of them.
I'll bet that was a very impressive sight also!
Instablaster...
Beautiful
Thank you!
I’m in awe.
Indeed.
And still each family in such a flock sticks to each other and are not lost
Yes, it's pretty amazing when you think about it.
Nature's Cool
I guess geese can easily distinguish their family members by cries. For humans it is a cacophony, but for them it is heard differently.
That's pretty interesting stuff! Nature is pretty amazing......and cool 😀
I guess this is what I saw years ago on a rice field near Winnie, Tx. On the rice fields!! It was almost solid white!!!
Probably so. I bet that was a sight to see.
Spettacolo bellissimo anche solo da vedere dal vivo...emozioni ciao Sergio
Thanks Sergio! It was a beautiful sight to see.
Good
Thanks.
👍👍👍
Nice good stuff see if jerky was in your pocket here
Thanks! Nope.....no jerky.

I was mainly amazed by the number of them.
Very beautiful!

O que vcs fazem com os pássaros mortos ??
I don't do anything with them, but some people hunt them and eat them.
Wow,, so nice Geese,,!
Thanks!
Crazy cool!

I liked the part when they were gawking
Yep, me too.

Thanks for the information! We had a really big flock around last year too, but not as big as this one.

In the uk i have seen flocks of wood pigeon in the region of 4000 How many geese do you think were in the sky when you filmed this

I shot pigeons.... where are these numbers in the uk please ?
This is one of those scenes where zooming out would have been way better.
Thanks Shelly! Yep, it's always hard to know which is better at any one time.
And we
Are supposed to know where this is ? How about some info in your intro.
Sorry about that. We are in the state of Kansas.
