I had the opportunity, by chance, during the "Heineken Music Festival" at Hong Kong Coluseum, to play guitar for Faye Wong, who was one of the international acts performing while my father, the late, great Larry Muhoberac was conductor. Faye's guitarist just didn't show up, so I was given 8 hours to learn all her material at the last minute. She was a great person, so lovely, kind, humble and appreciative. I wish I would have continued her tour. The other acts were "WU BAI", "Boys 2 Men", "All 4 One", Sheryl Crow, PAUL YOUNG, list goes on. Did it from 1996-1999 firstly so I'm not sure what year this was. It's originally written by COCTEAU TWINS (another favourite).
Even if we don't know what the song is about, what's not to love about it, the beautiful piano in the background? The amazing instrumental? Or the amazing fabulous singer? Pick one :-) I gots like 50 more reasons.
I am from the US. And I cannot understand a word of what she is saying. But I think she is the best singer in the world. Maybe it is because I also think she ls.the most beautiful singer in the world. No, scratch that. I meant the most Beautiful woman in the world. I also think Jang Nara is Beautiful and I just love her music.. Oriental people have beautiful music.. But I like all music. Music is the cure for the pain of the heart.
That was one of the most beautiful videos and songs I ever heard... her voice is beautiful..and she is too! I can really relate to this... wanting to love myself! ^_^
to me, ah mei and faye wong are the two most versatile female singers in mando music industry. throw them any song and they can do it n make it their own.
Mandarin doesn't need her to save, she need to save the Cantonese music industry.. I miss her alternative style Cantonese music =( It was so enchanting
i sorta made one for my friend... it's not perfect, but here it is: A Love Letter to Myself (Cantonese)/Laugh,Forget Book (Mandarin) - Faye Wong (Cantonese, pink words) Please don't give up You will have someone to envy you too Looking too high Will only diminish yourself Don't get lost too early There are many places to see in your travels Remember your hair and your skin Will celebrate your birthdays with you
lalala... lalalala... be able to throw away toys in your hand First learn to sleep well Having climbed from a deep valley From mud I've found this hard to believe golden phrase ** I have to for myself **
lalala... lalalala... From the beginning crying from jealousy To smiling with envy (w/out hatred) How time has Climbed over my skin, only I myself know the best ** Let me use my own hands to **
The world usually get mixed with Chinese language. There are 2 dominant Chinese language at the moment, Mandarin and Cantonese. Popular movies usually are from Hong Kong and it's Cantonese, not Mandarin. Cantonese is around 2000 years old, while Mandarin only around 800 years old. Which is why, Chinese poems read in Cantonese are nice to hear and songs have 9 tones in Cantonese than the 4 mono tones Mandarin, every1 can sing easily in Mandarin, but to sing a good songs in Cantonese is hard :)
i love Faye Wong.! my name is Farah Wong haha !:L im half Chinese but i cant really speak much. and have no idea what she is saying. I was born in England and never been to China or Hong Kong but most people asume because im half i came from there lol x
I feel like previous English translations have disappeared below, so linking my (very liberal) translation here: ruclips.net/video/7whnqdarHYc/видео.html Yes, I cried reading into the Cantonese lyrics.
The languages commonly referred to as Chinese include both Cantonese and Mandarin. In the Bay Area of California for instance it is usually Cantonese when people refer to Chinese. They are both "Chinese." People usually say Mandarin Chinese or Cantonese Chinese to make the distinction.

Rabecca fu my friend told me about this singer and I love her and did u know that Hebe Tian covered this at the 2010 s.h.e concert s.h.e is the one? I think I like both
@KibaAndAkamaru1000 oooooooooh I LOVE kiba and ADORE Akamaru they r SO CUTE together! :) I LOVE this song even though its like ancient in china but its so calming and beautiful
@zin814 You are correct that in general Cantonese and Mandarin speaking people use the same writing, just different pronounciation. As Thruths pointed out, there are exceptions In the case of lyrics though, this song was written so that both Canto + Mando people would understand, but because of pronounciation differences, the song may not flow if lyrics was written for Canto and singer tries to sing in Mando. Think poet choosing words based on how they sound. That's why 2 version is needed.

The real answer is that there must be 2 versions of the song, sometimes you have simplifed and traditional chinese writing at the sametime, but in this vid both are in trad chinese. So the song must have a canto and mandarin version with one of the lyrics for each.

Her Voice control really is one of the bests in the world I believe.
Really Love Faye Wong !
林夕的詞感動過我、也啟發過我。
王菲的歌就是有種淡淡的幽雅,在她的演繹裏我看見了人的渺小,如無腳小鳥……
真的感謝林夕寫那麼好的詞……
Timeless Faye.

I don't know of chinese language, but Faye is awesome singer :)
@spinsugar2 Actually, the red is Cantonese, and the blue is Mandarin.

Then I won't have to protect myself
If there's a bit of satisfaction
Then prepare to wrap up
If there's a bit of understanding
