I love this beautiful song. It is so romantic and fits Laguna and Julia perfectly and even Squall and Rinoa to a degree. OMH Faye Wong has a lovely voice and she is very pretty.

Hey, I am very pround of 王菲 as she actually the only singer from Hong Kong to sing Final Fantacy for Japan. I am from Hong Kong and I love Japanese songs espacially the 80s to 90s.
I have a totally different take (I totally made this up, but, it makes sense to me, especially the little bar). It's a song sung from the perspective of Tifa for Cloud for the ending of FF7. The tears in the lyrics refer to Cloud grieving for Aerith. Cloud is obviously still getting over Aerith's death and that's why Tifa pinches Cloud. Unfortunately, not finished in time for the ending of FF7, so used for FF8 instead.

One time he goes up and gets the courage to talk to her (previously he would try and then get too scared and find excuses why he couldn't), then they hit it off. Laguna talks to her all night and she tells him that she wants to sing and Laguna is all for it. Julia gets excited and the next day Laguna is put on a mission to another continent. There him and his team gets really injured. Julia starts her singing career and notices that he's never there anymore. She gets really sad and eventually gets together with a top ranking military man. They have a kid named Rinoa who ends up being the love interest for Squal, who is Laguna's son with another woman named Raine who took care of Laguna after his injury. Laguna never knew about squall and there we go. This song was Julia's song to Laguna and the military brass knew about her feelings about the situation as well. It's fitting that the song is for Rinoa and Squall made by rinoas mother for squalls father. It fits the theme of the next generation being important to stand on their own and make the world a better place

Played this 25 years ago! This song brings back so many memories of my high school days falling in love to a girl and playing this amazing game. Never played it again on modern consoles, but it will live on in my memories. ❤
I watched my brother play FFVIII when it came out and when I heard this song for the first time, instantly fell in love with it. I'm 31 now, and just got married this past weekend. I walked down the aisle to this song. I still get teary eyed thinking about it. I don't understand how music can move you so deeply.

"Was it real, or just my fantasy?" Man, it's like this song was meant for Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy VIII only. I'll be damned if this song is lost to time, because no matter what age, generation, or timeline you're from, this song and Final Fantasy VIII deserves to continue on for everyone to hear forever.
It also has minimal relevance to the game's story. It's a beautiful song but hearing Julia's ode to Laguna, when they never see each other again, doesn't add much, and I really don't understand why they play it for Squall and Rinoa when it doesn't reflect their romance at all (yes, I know their connection to the previous couple, still irrelevant).
I still remember making an extra save for this cut scene just to listen to this song , over and over. The story is so good , never expect anything from the game back then , and this song just blown me away.

when the game was first released. i used to sit back and watched my brother playing it without knowing anything going on, but i was mesmerized by the graphic (one of the best back then) and i loved this song so much. I'm going through Final Fantasy 8 again because I couldn't enjoy it on its own terms. When it came out I was hugely obsessed with Final Fantasy 7 that I didn't give this one a fair chance.
I'm 53, I still remember playing this game in the PlayStation, reach the point in the game when this song was singed and beign absolutely amazed about it... never before I had heard a song while playing a game (original or not). Then, it's not was only a song but a VERY good (original) song... I managed of getting it in MP3 format and all my friends cound't understand it.

When this song played in FF 8 in outerspace with squall and rinoa i am sure it took everyone by surprise. I dont think anyone ever expected a vocal song of this caliber to be in the game. Amazing then 20 years ago and still Amazing now, and I am sure it will be amazing in 20 years from now as well.

I played this game when It came out. Something about it struck me back then I felt a real connection to squalls story even though my own wasn't exactly the same. I was just a kid 8 or 9 didn't know anything about anything. I can't really explain how much of an impact that game had on my life. This song will be Etched in my mind forever.
We finally got final fantasy VIII remastered. Thanks square enix. Look forward to playing on PS4 and hearing this song again on console

Man, it's like this song was meant for Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy VIII only. I'll be damned if this song is lost to time, because no matter what age, generation, or timeline you're from, this song and Final Fantasy VIII deserves to continue on for everyone to hear forever.
I mean it was written for the game lol
It also has minimal relevance to the game's story. It's a beautiful song but hearing Julia's ode to Laguna, when they never see each other again, doesn't add much, and I really don't understand why they play it for Squall and Rinoa when it doesn't reflect their romance at all (yes, I know their connection to the previous couple, still irrelevant).
I still remember the lyrics after 20+ years. Timeless

I still remember making an extra save for this cut scene just to listen to this song , over and over. The story is so good , never expect anything from the game back then , and this song just blown me away.

When I listened to it the first time, this song gave me a certain sense of longing, a nostalgic feeling of something I never had. Even now almost 20 yrs later the same feeling arises. Beautiful blend of harmony, voice and lyrics. This song is once in a lifetime masterpiece.

when the game was first released. i used to sit back and watched my brother playing it without knowing anything going on, but i was mesmerized by the graphic (one of the best back then) and i loved this song so much.
Now i've beaten the game myself and fully understood whats actually going on, I love this song even more.

I played FFVIII and finished all the way to ending; The ending is so touching and beautiful when this song hit. The characters animation is superb in that time.

I didn't play VIII for the longest time, thinking there was no way it could follow up VII. I finally played it, and I'm glad I did. Most underrated Final Fantasy ever. VII, VIII, and IX are the golden age of this series

I'm going through Final Fantasy 8 again because I couldn't enjoy it on its own terms. When it came out I was hugely obsessed with Final Fantasy 7 that I didn't give this one a fair chance.

I'm 53, I still remember playing this game in the PlayStation, reach the point in the game when this song was singed and beign absolutely amazed about it... never before I had heard a song while playing a game (original or not). Then, it's not was only a song but a VERY good (original) song... I managed of getting it in MP3 format and all my friends cound't understand it.

When this song played in FF 8 in outerspace with squall and rinoa i am sure it took everyone by surprise. I dont think anyone ever expected a vocal song of this caliber to be in the game. Amazing then 20 years ago and still Amazing now, and I am sure it will be amazing in 20 years from now as well.

This song and Utada Hikaru's First Love, came out almost at the same time, both songs really remind me of so many good memories, I was in the 1st year of college.... time flies so fast.... if there is a time machine i really want to go back .....
I played this game when It came out. Something about it struck me back then I felt a real connection to squalls story even though my own wasn't exactly the same. I was just a kid 8 or 9 didn't know anything about anything. I can't really explain how much of an impact that game had on my life. This song will be Etched in my mind forever.
