  • Thiruvaloor Mahadeva Temple is one among the 108 Siva Temples build by Lord Parasurama in Kerala. Thiruvaloor Temple is a very old temple whose deity is believed to be part of the Lord Siva at Tyagaraja Temple at Thiruvaroor, Tamilnadu. The deity here is believed to be "Agniprathishta" - hence dhara is not performed here. The deity is facing east and there is a large pond whose area equals, area of the Temple itself. It is said that, the large pond is meant to minimise the anger /heat (Thapam) of Lord Siva.
Many legends regarding the temple is heard , of which the story of Suryakalady Bhattathiri (patteri) is narrated here. Also the agni parreksha performed by the uranma families is also mentioned. Due to the curse of Suryakalady Patteri the temples was totally destructed on lightning.
The reconstruction of Temple was performed by Maharaja of Travancore Sri Moolam Thirunal.
