That Axis cologne commercial is now my favorite commercial of all time.
Dude! I just found my Star Wars VHS Tape, which I'm pretty sure was recorded on this day. (There was a Peanuts Valentine's Day special recorded right before it.) Unfortunately, my parents were handy with cutting the commercials out of the recording, so I was missing these. But I could see a glimpse of the Mazda 323 commercial and what you posted in Vol. 404 confirm it.
I am having a Star Wars VHS viewing party with this very tape and this completes the experience for me. Thanks for posting these!
Roger Daltrey's solo song Move Better in the Night is heard in the Michelob ad. Phil COllins(In the Air Tonight) and Genesis(Tonight Tonight Tonight) and Steve WInwood(Dont' You Know what the Night Can Do), Eric Clapton(re-recording of After Midnight), and Wang Chung(To Live and Die in LA) had their songs in Michelob ads around this time.
Was Axis men’s body spray the predecessor to Axe? I googled it and was unable to find anything. The packaging, the premise, and the target market seem pretty similar.
The wikipedia article on the brand does suggest that they couldn't use the Axe name everywhere in the world due to trademark issues. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axe_(brand) I'm guessing that this was the same product, but can't confirm 100%.
Why is the guy in the Mazda commercial rolling up the magazine like he's going to hit someone with it? lol!
+wonkydude1 The "guy in the Mazda commercial" is legendary actor James Garner.
"We asked 1000 doctors which asprin they would bring on a deserted island"
What kind of question is that?
2 doctors replied with "Tylenol", 1 replied with "Advil", 997 doctors replied with "a boat."
+I Sell Used Tires The professor from Gilligan's Island recommended taking coconuts instead of aspirin
Am I the only one who has the intro to the CBS movie burned into my brain?
Star Wars on CBS, before the special editions, but after Lucas added 'A New Hope' on it.
The Toyota ad reminds me of "The Pride Is Back" commercials from Plymouth just a few years earlier.
John DeLancie, Q from ST:TNG. Vick's cough syrup. Were any of us this young? Lol.
Nostalgic for the original version of Star Wars. I hope TFA is good. Somebody would probably complain about that KFC ad today since it was a black family they showed eating.
the original SW before George Lucas did all that"special edition" mess..was this from the showing where various celebs talked about their favorite Star Wars moments in short clips before the commercial breaks..?
+TTrigg No, that was for the network television premiere in 1984. I posted the commercial breaks from that in Vols. 296-299

Aw the 80s. A simpler time when you could just casually dump raw sewage in a residential area.
+BrookeACrowe Yes, a phenomenon exclusive to the 80's
Oh, wait: www.google.com/search?q=treated+sewage+dumped
Ha! Q does have a family!!!
Foghorn Leghorn..lol. Traitor.😸
