Untucked used to be great until fans got in their feelings and started attacking queens, which lead queens to censoring themselves which is how we got the Untucked that we have today
I can't believe the youngest and most toxic of the fans have had the power to make the producers change the edit of the show. Just shows you how much we give in to immaturity and toxicity as a society, instead of standing our ground.
@@invidusspectator3920 the entire show would be different, and undisputably better, if the queens, production and everyone involved gave the middle finger to fan perception and just let things hang loose and play out naturally. or if the audience grew the fuck up a bit
@@waddledeedeee Not to mention that the whole point of drag used to be transgressive and subversive, to offend mainstream sensibilities. It feels like they exchanged the very adult interpersonal drama and humor to suite a younger audience, with the flashiness, polish and the endless twists masking the lack of authenticity and substance that the show used to possess.
I feel the whole show would be so much better if it wasn't trying to please everyone. If a queen is acting a certain way it's on them, not production or edit. Too bad the crazies on social media have ruined this aspect of the show by sending hate and threats on social media.
Imo fans have been attacking queens since the show started. Tyra from season 2 got so much hate. The only difference now is the sheer volume of fans and the greater accessibility of the queens with social media.

I loved the heavy editing of season 6 Untucked, Laganja trying to start a conversation and the all the girls sipping drinks while saying nothing is so iconic

Maybe it was more of a case of putting on a poker/brave face? Softening the blow for herself while not entirely believing what she was saying? I mean if that gets her nerves down more power to her! Besides she still is a fabulous entertainer and, let's be real, the fans will put her down plenty, so why do that herself (tho there is a perfect balance to be found ngl, true)
I remember how the trailers for the old Untucked (S2-S6) would spoil so much of the season because they used clips from all over the seasons rather than just the premiere like today. People made charts on how many looks a queen had during a trailer to see how far they made it and predict the elimination order.
Can we appreciate how Willam owned every episode of Untucked during her season

i love unstucked season 7, them smoking in the back, sleeping on the couch.. my favorite 💀💀
That one scene where Kennedy and Trixie are like "omg where are the others I'm gonna fall asleep" and then it cuts to Katya doing the chicken dance over a sewer grate outside 💀
I think why i enjoy untucked s4 and 5 is that it is high camp. Drag race began as a parody of reality tv, and the campiness of these seasons really brings that forward. It feels very unreal and draggy. I find 6 a bit uncomfortable though because of Laganja's edit, especially realizing why her parents accepting her as a drag queen was so important (rather than being gay as Bianca assumed) was because she's trans.
the editing on untucked S5 was PEAK CAMP....it was so ridiculous and obvious and a mess but it was sooo good.
@@stop08it and the queens were definitely playing into it as well, especially Alyssa and Coco. I think it's Alaska who said that they kept teasing their fight out in the first couple of episodes knowing it means they'll be safe lol
That’s not fair to place on Season 6 though, because nobody, not even LaGanja knew she was trans at the time. Gia hadn’t come out as trans yet either.

@@1rockcrawford sure, I was just speculating that even before realising she was trans, this may have been why she had the desire to be accepted as a drag queen moreso than a "gay man"- something demonised by the narrative at the time. But besides that, there was also the exploitation of her mental health issues as well which makes me, personally, uncomfortable.
I think putting season 7 on RUclips was so smart. It was actually the reason I started watching drag race. Having it free for anyone to watch got a whole new audience!! I feel like that should be noted. It introduced me and lots of younger people who are used to streaming to drag race and made lots of fans immediately. Season 7 will always have a place in my heart.

I think Philippines Untucked highlights a lot of good reasons why viewers want to watch untucked: confrontations, emotional rants, exclusive footage, fights and drama that extend the drag race stage, etc. I mean the fact that Philippines is the only international season to have its own untucked series says a lot

Highly doubt that DRPH S2 will still have queens giving good drama just because of how much hate Xilhouete got from the Filipino fans by just talking too much… Kinda sad tbh

I remember watching Untucked on RUclips for season 7. It never bothered me that it wasn't on TV but honestly 7 was my first season I sat and actually watched all the way through.
That moment when Untucked itself has ERAS… which I never realized.
i'm not gonna lie the stripped back untucked in season 7-8 was amazing i really miss it. it felt a lot more authentic; like they were having actual conversations rather than the over edited ones in previous seasons
Season 15 should have a challenge similar the super teaser from 14. But they should get to record in the interior illusions lounge 😭
Mimi and Shangela's fight wasn't staged, it just wasn't edited exactly how it happened. There was definitely more footage than was shown in between Shangela's rebuttal & the actual drink throwing, or it happened in a different order. According to Henny there was an actual fistfight that went unseen.

Season 9 untucked was my favorite. I liked how chill it was in comparison to a pretty high energy season. Also the drama was all around great, delusional Alexis, Nina struggling with paranoia driven by underlying mental health issues, Aja just FULLY being jealous of Valentina. Eureka being cluelessly extra it was perfection

Aja wasn’t jealous of Valentina, just like how Nina wasn’t as much of a victim as y’all would be led to believe, tho there is no denying a mental health issue is there. Untucked truly changed well before season 9, but even the Linda Evangelista moment didn’t go how it was edited, like how Valentina and Aja planned the congeniality drama - what they didn’t plan was the girls going at Valentina. Trust we will never have the full scope like we think
I truly miss untucked from seasons 2-5. Those girls really weren't afraid to fight with each other.
Always have a soft spot for Season 7, really liked it on youtube. It was a nice unwind. I could use it could catch up and I've even rewatched it on its own.
I am part of the group that finds the vibes of the workroom for untucked to be off. It just doesn’t feel as much like a seperate show where reality moments can happen when it’s in the same space as the regular show. I really hope post pandemic with MTV money they are able to switch it up some more!
It has gotten so produced now, it's basically like large form confessionals. They make one of the queens ask producer questions like "so who do you think is in the bottom?" "what was your inspiration for this look?" "how did you feel about this certain comment?" It's so robotic and then you can see the queens actively working to squeeze themselves in front of the camera to have a moment.
It all went downhill after they got rid of Interior Illusions Lounge
Untucked like the Mini Challenges really shows Queens personalities & when it’s missing from the show the “branding” of them is also gone
I have always said, Aja took Untucked off of RUclips. After her "You're Perfect, You're Beautiful" rant to Valentina, the very next season, Untucked was now its own show again. Her moment was so viral and so iconic, I think VH1 realized they needed to return to the original Logo format of having Untucked right after the episode airs, since a lot of the show's biggest moments happened during the long stewing of waiting to see who would be eliminated.
for anyone that doesn't understand why season 1 was all car references... "drag racing" is car racing, lol. that's why the theming was all cars. because drag races are car races lol.

Untucked reminds me of that middle school friend who became popular in high school. They drop their old friends for new ones who wear fancier clothes but lack major personality.
Untucked on seasons 7 and 8 are not that bad at all (in my opinion!!!), I feel like it's a sort of weird era where there's a mix of queens showing self-restraint because they don't want the fans to hate them, and the queens becoming less confrontational and more passive-aggressive/shady to try to avoid being the bad guy. I think these seasons (especially season 7) had a lot of "down" moments as well where the queens reveal in some way or another that they felt insecure, tired, or were just over the competition, which is kind of different from the high-energy vibe that the earlier seasons had. I also think that the budget for untucked was lower on seasons 7 and 8 POSSIBLY because of the show preparing for All Stars 2, or possibly because the franchise was growing too large for logo and the budget had to be changed to accommodate that. I really liked this video, I'll definitely have to check out under the hood!

I am a massive enjoyer of S7-S9 Untucked. It gave some of the most memorable moments. The stripped set and low camera work was a nice break for me from the show. The memes from talking made it a more enjoyable experience - I would much rather laugh at a less-edited, more organic comeback from a queen than a funky camera.
That being sad, I love how nowadays, producers seem to have more fun w it - Brooke making the fort in s11 being highlighted, Jans SHADE! Button noises etc, it somehow reminds me of S2 ,,I would never say that *next shot* her interview was shit, her book cover was shit,... " moment w Raven and Tatiana. It's shady producing, but not masked. I love openly shady producers!

The whole show is based on rupauls love for cars, it's literally called a DRAG RACE, which both means drag queens racing for the crown and an actual car event :)
I love the Mini-Untucked on the international seasons. Like you mentioned, it cuts out a lot of the filler on regular Untucked (especially All Stars 7 Untucked), and it means the important narrative beats are included in the episode, not as a side show. It just helps with the overall pacing of the season in my opinion.
According to Stacey, the Shangela/Mimi fight wasn't staged - it was actually so bad it came to blows and production had to stop for a bit.
Untucked peaked in Season 6. Then production went all serious, which left the comedy factor behind. Now it's cheap drama. No more realness left honey.

The car references were due to them referencing drag racing lol, hence the name of the show. 😂
Untucked was were you could have a snack and water, and drive home safer. My gosh, those early episodes were so amazing. You got to really see the ladies as real people. Without shoes, and just letting it fly. The internet and toxic fans really made people edit what they might have done and said. It was a bit of the Caged bird, and wanting it to sing, and be mad when they hug and are all sisters. Ha!
I just don’t understand why they can’t bring back the Pink Furry Box?! I feel no one ever talks about it, but it was the main catalyst for drama and story drive events! Bring that back, and I’m sure the producers will get everything they need and more!

I haven't watched Untucked since season 11 when I finally realised that watching people fight doesn't actually make me feel good. Haven't looked back since.

Actually, as someone from a foreign country. having season 7's untucked being on youtube was how I got into drag race. So I think it was good for people to get introduced to it, get a taste of it and attract more viewers.
s15 is shaping up to be great so i’m hoping untucked will follow along and i’m praying this season starts a new better more entertaining era

The reason they moved Untucked into the Werkroom after season 12 was because they expanded the actual werkroom set due to Covid protocols and the sound stage doesn’t have enough room for both sets now. The Untucked set was literally part of the backstage to the left side of the werkroom in the same sound stage if I’m not mistaken.
I kind of liked untucked on RUclips! It was more laid back and chill so the dramatic moments felt more real
once we started getting hour long episodes everything got ruined imo. before that we would get a good episode and then if we wanted more from the queens we would go watch untucked. now they already include so much filler in the main episode that wanting to see more is rare. we still have interesting moments but there is so much filler it's rare.

I actually got into drag race because of the youtube Untucked episodes. It really was a nice way to familiarize myself with the format of the show and the queens themselves
they included lots of car imagery in the promo because drag race also refers to two cars racing each other haha. its the contrast between something so fem as drag queens and so masc as cars

I love seasons 7-9 of untucked. season 9 untucked was my first introduction to drag race because it was free on RUclips. so maybe I'm a little biased but honestly, I just love how raw and unfiltered seasons 7-9 of untucked was. there were no interruptions (like the pink furry box from seasons 4-6) and no guest judge appearances, and I miss that. I like seeing the queens relax and just talk about what they want. and it has such a personal behind the scenes feel to it that I love.
I still remember Nina saying HIV on that pre-Untucked episode🤣🤣🤣🤣

The car references are intentional. Drag racing is a type race between two sports cars but there's also a variation where the driver needs to reach the goal within a very tight time frame 😄

interior illusions was a sponsor if i remember correctly, so they just referenced it on the seasons they sponsored.
My biggest gripe with Untucked right now is that I wish they would edit it and the episodes together, it's so annoying to switch back and forth between the seasons on streaming platforms especially when I wanna binge older seasons

Yes PLEASE do a video on how the Emmy wins have affected RPDR production. It’s one of the reasons my viewership of the main US seasons has basically stopped after season 13.

I miss the old days of untucked because they had the queens on separate rooms which lead to the shadiest moments like when the heather’s walking into the room while the others were talking trash about them.

Under the Hood was so wildly different. As I said in another comment in your video about the evolution of Drag Race, UtH didn't feel like anything dramatic. It was really just the queens chatting, so a lot less for production to milk.
With that said, season two and three of Untucked are chef's kiss.

S7-S9: Little conflict but still great (s7 untucked is great)
S10-12: Emmy era trying to make good moments
S13-15: werkroom, Some good drama rupauls best frienf race too
I was literally looking all the place for Sesaon 7's Untucked. This video helped me find on WOW's RUclips which is....baffling.
