The only bad thing about the Coco vs Alyssa fight for me is that they always made Coco look like she was in the wrong for picking up the title, when everybody probably would have done it (and she was obligated to via a contract)
I think it’s just a sign of the times… drag race, on purpose or not, used to do a lot of “angry/crazy black woman” edits, or leaned very close to it. Honestly, I can see why Coco did it. I mean, not only is she legally obligated, but also, it’s a title. If you’re good, you will win it again. There are more chances to claim the title in the future.
@@Discretion234 Yeah, and that was the bind Coco was in: she either took a crown that she didn't technically win, and therefore would be unable to win again, or she would be blacklisted anyway for breaking her contract as first alternate. The thing is that while each of them put the other in a difficult position, the real villain in each of their stories was the pageant itself. They asked Alyssa to close down her dance school in order to fulfil her obligations as winner - which she obviously refused, and then robbed Coco of the chance to earn her own crown. What made it even more tragic - and is probably why Alyssa was quite so hurt - was that after Alyssa was originally crowned, she sat down with Coco and they started to plan out how to ensure Coco won the following year, with Alyssa offering help with dresses and designers, etc. and so when Coco took the crown, Alyssa saw it not as Coco just fulfilling her contractual obligations, but as a friend betraying her, and choosing the pageant over both their friendship and working relationship. But thankfully it's all over now and they're both more successful and famous than the pageant that caused all the drama!
Season 5 was lightning in a bottle, it checked all the boxes of a great reality TV show: the drama, the rivalries, the underdog who ultimately comes out on top and beats the villains... So good.

This is why I will always stand by season 5 being the best season, even above AS2 (which was practically a S5 rematch) and S6. Everyone is so talented; 8 different people won challenges, so it feels like anyone’s game. And the challenges are so GOOD - we get some of the best (and most iconically bad) performances of all time. and most importantly, the storytelling is the best EVER done. Everyone on the cast gets something. It’s my favorite rewatch, and it’s reality TV perfection from beginning to end.
Their “Cold Hearted” lipsync was definitely one of the best. Double shantay worthy but what makes it more interesting is that it wasn’t for forced for storyline purposes, they were both in the bottom the same amount of times and both got one challenge win. That lipsync really was the climax of their rivalry. Love them both so much ❤

There was a possibility for this level of drama in S14 but unfortunately had to be scrapped because of injury. Kornbread stated at a Roscoe's viewing party that she knew EVERY Queen before the season started. There's a reason why she was MC even though she was out so early. She was not afraid to speak her mind because any queen that she talked to knew her already. But oinkle went cleek and we got the Neverending Season instead.

Season 7 had the beard challenge directly inspired my Milk. They had the half man/half woman challenge also brought to us by Milks boy Ru idea. Milk brought us boy drag, Season seven challenges - not violet capitalized on it and brought it to the main format.
Really well made video. I loved in AS2 when Coco goes up to Alyssa with her Dorito purse and both of them quote their season and laugh. Loved their haters/friendship dynamic.
Season 5 was the first season I watched and still my all-time favourite to this day. Just so iconic and memorable, with one of the best casts of all time.

Even though its on my top 2 favorites, i think this is the perfect drag race season, over edited in the best way and just the perfect representation of what made me fall in love with the show. It's a banger and i made my bf watch this one as his introduction lol
Season 5 was the first one my sister and I started with, based solely on how it influenced All Stars 2. I’m really extra grateful that we did so. This storyline was so much fun to track, and your analysis here is wonderful! (S5 also turned me into a massive Jinkx fan, and I’m grateful for that too. 😂)
Except for Serena... Girl... It's really impossible to have a drag race fan who didn't laugh at that moment. It was the read that brought the whole cast together... Alyssa and Coco side by side.. laughing. Like.. top tier moments
What about the conflict between Marina Summers and Xilhouete on DragRacePH? I think it's a great storyline that the producers could've worked with a lot better, but this is the most intense I've seen a drag mother vs daughter go all out, especially when this season is one of the only other ones with an untucked
this video is so on time cause i literally just finished watching S5 for the first time! the point you made about both sides being 100% human in this feud -- BRAVO. that's exactly how i felt watching the alyssa vs coco storyline. both had their highs and lows both in the competitive and character sense and i loved every. single. second of it. the S5 untucked's are UNMATCHED. most queens got shady moments, and most queens also got emotional because of the messages from their loved ones. and the trashy editing is just SO GOOD..... all we need now is coco to get another shot bc she deserves it.
This was the season that made me get back into Drag Race. I stopped watching after season four, but after season five, I went back and watched the other seasons that I missed. It was iconic, and where I found more of my faves like Alyssa, Jinkx, Monica, and Alaska
I feel like the Trinity/Eureka 'fued' could have could have reached these heights, but Eureka's injury prevented it from really being spotlighted or played up. Both are fierce competitors, extremely talented, and have large, at times prickly personalities. Add their previous history, it could have gotten big.
on the topic of balanced conflicts i think jasmine vs daya was a big step forward for the show and i hope they keep doing that kind of edit. great video as always!
The only thing is after their season aired crazy drag race fans sent a lot of hate/death threats to them (specifically Daya) which just ruins it for the rest of us! I swear we can't even have drama anymore w/out crazy fans taking everything so damn serious
@@lilarose3285 true and i really feel for her but i think that was a relatively small minority. Words could not describe how much I love and adore both of these legendary queens. It just breaks my heart to see either one of them being upset or sad.
JackFed, love your content! As a longtime drag race fan and new subscriber to your channel, I love the deep dives and dissections. Thank you so much for the time you put into these!! Had Eureka not gotten injured early on I think we would have had a great story to follow, and an even greater lipsync battle. But like you said, it still would not have had the same energy as Alyssa and Coco. They are and will always be the blueprint 🙌🏾🙌🏾
I still just think... the story of Season 5 was TOO good. It feels TOO convenient that you know there was a ton of producer meddling to get it to line up exactly the way they wanted it. Whether it was the mini challenge, which queen won the challenge, the lip sync choices, it all just felt suspiciously perfect.

I think a recent feud that comes close to how even it is depicted is Daya Betty versus Jasmine Kennedie. They were both shown to be fierce competitors and lip synchers, to be talented in their own ways, and were good drama. I just wish they had an LSFYL to cap the feud off too.
I will always be sour about being robbed of a derrick VS india season. Especially that season needed more of that drama. It would have bled perfectly i to India VS Alexis

Drag race phillipines had a very good storyline similar to this one with xillouette and her drag daughter marina summers, it literally took all season for them to come full circle yet every episode we got another part of the story and it was never overwhelming
Session five is when I tuned in. Find memories. It was a friend at work who convinced me to watch because it sounded cool. Now I can't imagine life without drag race.
Season 8 has my heart because I find it so funny, but I agree. This season is THE perfect drag race introduction. The story line just flows so well with Jinx and Rolaskatox, then with Coco and Alyssa. Plus that’s when Untucked was WAY more interesting and had wayyyyyy more drama.
That mattress is easy to unbox but for whatever reason your not satisfied. It has to be sent as is once placed in the bedroom 😂😐.. I work in mail and I've seen big mattresses lugged and shipped out with no packaging. I thought that was funny 😁 😂
Listen...when it comes to that Lip Sync in my opinion it is in the top 3 BEST drag race lip syncs of all time! When Coco worked those sleeves! My god! She yanked Ru's wig OFF! Ru was sooooo gagged! That moment...has now become like the iconic "Wonder Woman Spin" when she is transforming! Those sleeves...came at the right time! The timing...the song...the sleeves! The way she punches the air at the exact moment Alyssa slams back! As though she was being knocked back. There were sooooo many perfect moments it can only be described as lightening striking! TWICE!!! In the same spot! There will never be another lip sync like that one!
Season 5 was actually my starter season, and the first episode I saw was THE episode. I was 13 going on 14, I watched the telenovella, immediately fell in love with jinkx, saw Coco and Alyssa lip sync, and I was hooked ever since. I went to logo on demand and binged the whole season.
11:33 This better be in your Crazy Editing Choices Part 2 video! Season 5 is my favourite US non-All Stars season because it is a far more underdoggy/satisfying and story-wise symmetric season than S6.
Okay, but any journalist wanna put in a video what really happened between alyssa and coco during their time competing in the pageant world. I’d pay for that 😂
As I said before, LOVE these new videos. Monica Beverly Hillz coming out as trans was also a highlight. Re: subscriptions it would be good to explain if this effects your monetization. I'm surprised you didn't mention Rose and Tina Burner. Was similar situation to Cracker and Aquaria. Both had history with each other and was brought up from the beginning. Barely went anywhere. Don't think production got the drama they wanted out of it lol
I think a major early moment you could tell Alyssa was gonna become a fan fave on AS2 was when she broke her established character in episode 2 (in a moment that was mirrored/lampshaded in episode 1) when she actively took time to look away from a mirror and went to check on Adore
The season I started with was season 6 with Bianca del rio and that’s the season I tell people to start on because it’s such a good season! Bianca is such a lovable villain that everyone loves and that snatch game is one of the best
id love to hear what you think about all the beef story lines in drag race ph! with xilhouette being marina’s old drag mother and with marina and minty having boy drama id really like to hear what u think in relation to the coco and alyssa rivalry
I started with season 5 cuz I was friends with detox in high school and it blew my mind! I knew them as Matt tho lol, a total awesome nerdy theater kid, it's so funny seeing little mannerisms and personality quirks still the same. We were close for a time period but lost touch after like 10th grade cuz i had a baby and went to online school and pretty much lost most of my school friends. He always insisted he had a huge crush on me but I was like SO sure he was FLAMING gay lol, but back then people weren't as open about that I guess so I never wanted to like force him to out himself if he didnt want to, u know, so i just went along with the crush thing haha. I was SUPER glad and happy to see him living his best life now! AND I think he did AMAZING on the show!!! I wish I knew how to get in touch and tell him how good it was to see and how proud I am, I miss our friendship too he was so much fun and really helped me thru a tough time back then ♡

BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
I watched s5 fist as a drag race beginner. I was obsessed and here I am lol! Alyssa and Coco are the legends !
Love your content!
I love that you said "backstabbing me behind my back"
I’ve been in a weird slump lately, and jacks videos make me want to be more productive😭
Season 4-6 was so good...I miss those days
Drag race phillipines had a very good storyline similar to this one with xillouette and her drag daughter marina summers, it literally took all season for them to come full circle yet every episode we got another part of the story and it was never overwhelming
Season 5 have the best lipsyncs, the best stories, one of the best casts
this is so good
Session five is when I tuned in. Find memories. It was a friend at work who convinced me to watch because it sounded cool. Now I can't imagine life without drag race.
backstabbin behind my back
subbed for the promise of going on the best date 😂
I knew this storyline was good but seeing it broken down like this makes me realise it was amazing
Nobody:
Coco in her confessionals: 🧿👄🧿
I love coco but them contacts are INTENSE
Am I the only finding themself saying "Yup. Hard agree. OMG yes. Tooooootally!" in my head whenever I watch Jack's videos?
14:21 i find that moment so cute lol
same here, always suggest S5 for a start point, and it's also easier for people to catch up AS2
I am the Vanessa Williams of drag . Is a moment in drag race herstory
Season 8 has my heart because I find it so funny, but I agree. This season is THE perfect drag race introduction. The story line just flows so well with Jinx and Rolaskatox, then with Coco and Alyssa. Plus that’s when Untucked was WAY more interesting and had wayyyyyy more drama.
do more of this
For the record, I love your scripts! You are so dumb and I loove it!! 🤗
Can't wait for the Ivy video 💕
Yes!! S5 is where I tell everyone to start it’s the perfect jumping point
not skipping the sponsors this time bc you look really cute
That mattress is easy to unbox but for whatever reason your not satisfied. It has to be sent as is once placed in the bedroom 😂😐.. I work in mail and I've seen big mattresses lugged and shipped out with no packaging. I thought that was funny 😁 😂
when you were listing off other examples i was waiting for you bring up drag race philippines' marina/xilo/minty drama
Ive beeeeen waiting for this. Also, I subscribed, where’s my date
Season 5 is my favourite US non-All Stars season because it is a far more underdoggy/satisfying and story-wise symmetric season than S6.
season 5 was my gateway drag
Okay, but any journalist wanna put in a video what really happened between alyssa and coco during their time competing in the pageant world. I’d pay for that 😂
As I said before, LOVE these new videos. Monica Beverly Hillz coming out as trans was also a highlight. Re: subscriptions it would be good to explain if this effects your monetization. Does it also relate to the algorithms in any way? I thought it might affect how often you come up as a suggested watch. You put so much into your videos. I've been a long-time viewer. Last thing do you have a Patreon account? It helps many creators to fund their work, put our exclusive content & build a community.
I'm surprised you didn't mention Rose and Tina Burner. Was similar situation to Cracker and Aquaria. Both had history with each other and was brought up from the beginning. Barely went anywhere. Don't think production got the drama they wanted out of it lol
season 5 was my first season of drag race, i had a friend tell me 'it's the only one that matters.'
I think a major early moment you could tell Alyssa was gonna become a fan fave on AS2 was when she broke her established character in episode 2 (in a moment that was mirrored/lampshaded in episode 1) when she actively took time to look away from a mirror and went to check on Adore
THIS IS WHY SEASON 5 IS MY FAVORITE SEASON.
I heard sponsored by Helix & almost lost it lmaoooo but then…mattress
I wish I knew how to get in touch and tell him how good it was to see and how proud I am, I miss our friendship too he was so much fun and really helped me thru a tough time back then ♡
this was so cool to read omg
