I saw Eric Burdon Band in the early 1980s at the Italo Club in Lismore, Northern NSW on the Australian tour. They played two consecutive nights there. My husband and I went to both shows. It was amazing. No seats, a few hundred people, so you could go up and be within yards of the band. They were unbelievably good. I'd been a fan of The Animals since a child (born mid-50s) with sisters who played all the modern music, and so had heard their music a lot. Eric's voice was phenomenal, having gotten fuller and more resonant as he aged. He blew the place away. I've seen many great bands live, The Stones, Zappa, Clapton etc., but nothing compares to the intimacy and absolute power of that experience listening to Eric Burdon those two nights. It was so good, I found it disorientating to have to go back to my everyday life, to work and routines, after being transported to some ethereal space by the deeply felt soul extending experience of the live music... having this magnificent performer breeze into my life, give everything he had and then move on. Amazing.

Growing up in the sixties with the music, cars and girls in mini skirts was the greatest decade ever if it hadn’t been for the Vietnam war it would have been perfect. The Animals stole the song "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" from Nina Simone, who had actually killed the song. Bennie Benjamin, the songwriter, wrote this song for Nina Simone. The song lyrics do not even fit a white man. The song is for a Black woman who is going through hard times in her life. But it's typical for a white man to appropriate Black culture. SO PLEASE DO NOT BELIVE THE "HYPE." The Animals have not written one song eveer.

@@drkn1559 personally I don't get your comment about them appropriating black culture or that the song can only be sung by a black women. I see too many claim that because a white singer or group made a song famous that they have done something wrong, can't people just agree to like great music and singers no matter what the colour of their skin?

THAT'S A DAMN LIE-The Animals stole the song "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" from Nina Simone, who had actually killed the song.

Eric Burdon used to scare me as a 11-12 year old kid listening to his music. He seemed very much the 'rebel' who your parents would NOT want you to hand out with. BUT as kids, we'd be drawn to him for precisely that reason. Loved those 'bad boys'!

what you have to realize this was the time when this music was becoming known to the youth in the UK,first time i heard these guys it blew me away,it was R&B but with a distinct British sound, they played this stuff in the Pubs of Newcastle in the early days, they were the real deal.
I believe they used a Vox Continental Organ much different sound than the Hammond, which i also love.
