I enjoyed the performance, the auto tune is a stylistic choice. Anyone that knows Kimbra understands she loves experimenting with vocal effects and looping. She doesn't need it to hide imperfections like some artist do. If you're paying attention she gradually increases the autotune effect maybe lowering or switching off in some parts. It's not a crutch for her but part of her artistry. If you're new to Kimbra there's plenty of material of her not using auto tune in this way. And she is amazing.
yeah she turns it on and off for certain points of the arrangement, it's to create contrast and textural interest as the song develops (and also to give certain lyrics a certain emotional affect), not to help in hitting notes
have u ever heard the stuff she made at the start of her career? its not the same kimbra but its just such a treat to hear the sound she started with! simply on my lips is one of the early ones :)
So badass. She really uses her voice as an instrument and her live mixing is so amazing to watch and listen to. Just incredible talent & craftsmanship, together!
@@tay590 Rescue Him, Miracle, Madhouse and Nobody But You totally. And I love that record, but something floor to ceiling future funk (Sweet Relief vibes too)
I knew there was a reason Kimbra came back to my mind... out of nowhere yesterday I found myself listening to her discograpghy and now we have this iconic cover
This video reminds me the medly Kimbra did with Janelle Monae many years ago to announce the tour that they finally never did... It would be so awesome to experience such a show...
Kimbra! GIIIIIRRRRRL 🔥🔥🔥🔥 loved this performance so much. You are the epitome of a true artist! Musician, everything about this was so on the money, and the moves too! Made me feel like I could be that person too
Funny thing was I was just thinking about her old covers today from Like A Version that was from like a decade ago and what do you know?! Kimbra is BACK and sounding as perfect as ever! 🤩🤩
This is an amazing cover. Love all of the vocal change ups. Most artists wouldn't dream of doing something so daring. Love the risks she took in making this cover uniquely her own.
Seeing the look of kimbra from the days of performing 'Two Way Street' live until now...she was so dainty and sanitized, so delicate back then. Now, she looks more natural, more visceral. It just fits her vocal style so much better to me. It also looks like she filled out a bit. She's always been a beautiful lady to me, but she just went up on that scale for me as I begin to see her newer performances!
@@neonhills why hasn’t it yet? Why has only one song she has ever made become popular on any significant scale? L artist makes L songs and does L covers.
@@OldObscureUnpopularGames we will all miss out from now on, her career is over. I wonder if her face still looks the same after falling flat on it after her most recent album lololol
Billboard:What is your approach to feedback about your music online? Kimbra:”More and more, l've realized that anytime you take a risk and try to do something slightly daring, there will be people who don't like it. There are people who like you to stay small, especially with women. Sometimes when I receive negative feedback, I almost take it as an affirmation that what I'm doing is pushing into something new. It makes sense that someone hates that version I did of a Beyoncé song, or something. Don't get me wrong: it can really deflate me when I get something negative. People can be very cruel. But f-k, it's just part of it, man. Every job has its thing that you have to be able to armor against.” Love her so much!!
Wow random that this popped up in my recommended. I’m a fan of some of Kimbra’s past work and who can forget somebody that I use to know. I’m gonna be honest though… I don’t know if I like the arrangement of this but I liked alot of it in places. The auto-tune was a stylistic choice however.

I thought the exact same thing about the auto tune. Like Beyoncé, Kimbra has amazing vocals untouched. Any alterations are for style
Comment on point. ✨👌🏻
Is this Kimbra’s burner account?
yeah she turns it on and off for certain points of the arrangement, it's to create contrast and textural interest as the song develops (and also to give certain lyrics a certain emotional affect), not to help in hitting notes
It's so blatantly obvious she's a hell of a singer, if anyone is claiming the autotune is to hide he vocals they're an idiot 🤣
What an unbelievable woman. Been a fan since "Settle Down"

Same here
Same here! My fav song of hers is ''Good Intent''
So badass. She really uses her voice as an instrument and her live mixing is so amazing to watch and listen to. Just incredible talent & craftsmanship, together!
She really is mesmerizing. I've enjoyed listening to her for over a decade. She's timeless and truly talented.
Further proof Kimbra needs to put out a solid future funk record 😩🙌🏻
I agree completely . . Alot of songs on Golden Echo are very future funky
Yassss
we need it
Golden Echoes kinda is that album!!!

You sound like me. What do you lhink about Yohanna Newsom? I won’t get notified when you answer me….. will I.
This is the first cover of this song I've heard, and I bet it will be the most original of all.

I’m still hurt that that tour didn’t pan out. Really wish they’d give it another go.
i always love how she playing the magical harp in front of her
BEYONCE KIMBRA COVER IS NOT SOMETHING I THOUGHT I NEEDED BUT NOW IS SOMETHING I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT
she always does the coolest covers!!
Man, what a performance! All the vocal layering too, she's in a genre of her own. 10/10
so you people are just gonna pretend that this sounded good

The reason I follow this channel is because of her first cover. I have never stopped returning to rewatch it, so I’m happy to see her back!
this version slaps, i love it
We’re graced with Kimbra at triple j! 11 years ago she was there and never disappoints!!! ❤
so much energy in this, epic! looking stunning Kimbra!
it’s not a Kimbra performance if she doesn’t do her cute arm gestures! stunning cover, refreshing era, amazing album tbh 🫶🏻
Those arm gestures, to me, look like a highly visual artist pulling notes and sounds from the air. She "sees" what she is singing

Brilliant! Reminds me of the legendary Lisa Stansfield 😍
She has mentioned her as an influence!

My favourite artist covering my other favourite ❤️❤️
I wonder what would happen if someone tried to hold Kimba's hands while she sings? I feel like you'd be sucked into the music somehow!
You'd be torn in half. Then placed back together. Rhythmically. It would sound something like an approaching horse.

Love her. I hope she fuckin smashes it with a huge solo hit at some stage.
