    Once my turbo axle got broken so the turbo centre part blew up, and tond of oil got into the exhaust. We have replaced the turbo and started.. Man I know what you mean... my village disappeared - even police came out. It was indeed a nightmare.

      @@NeilsCarsAviationTravel yeah absolutely! It burns out after like 20 mins but until then.. I mean there is a good reason why the navy is using this technique as camouflage with tanks. Also in the disco the smoke is basically burned or if you wish : evaporated oil. It is only that it's not engineering oil there hahahaha

    If you have a b46,48 engine, it can be done in less than an hour. I mean, not at the first time of the removal, but from the second time after knowing where and how to remove all the wires and hoses around it securely, it’s just a simplest turbo removing model by bmw

    Nice one, I’ve a turbine core to fit to a 2011 X3 F25 N47 this Saturday. Hopefully go as smooth as yours did! (Change your serpentine belt before it snaps!) That car has obviously been neglected with a filter like that and is probably the reason the turbo has failed

    • @iangillott
      @iangillott 6 месяцев назад

      Hi, let me know how you go, I have a core coming in a week or so, i can't see how he gets the 3rd bolt out of the Turbo to Exhaust Manifold out, I assume with an extension from the top, through the manifold. When you do the core make sure you scribe the old and new and don't let it get out of rotation ( I had an Audi that was supplied 5 degrees out when they overhauled it and it would not fit back on).

    • @NeilsCarsAviationTravel
      @NeilsCarsAviationTravel  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yes the oil was pretty grim. Good with the replacement.

      @@iangillott got mine done today, breeze of a job about 2 1/2 hours all in start to finish. My old core was absolutely shot around 5-6mm play in the shaft back and forth so did it just in time. The 3rd bolt is easy with a very long extension. the biggest pain is the oil feed and return pipes but other than that a doddle of a job. Car pulls infinitely better now definitely glad I did it.

      There should be a part number on it which you can search for on eBay.
      Is it the bit that goes into the air box (before the MAF) or is it the bit from the air box to turbo?

  • @victorprioroc1009

    Thanks for the good video. Have a similar issue with my car and if you read on ista it always says that you should put oil in the turbo before putting it back ok the car and start the engine.. otherwise without oil.. while starting the engine those 2 seconds until it takes oil from the pan could damage again the turbo. My question would be how the hell do you put oil in the turbo manually 🤔

    • @NeilsCarsAviationTravel
      @NeilsCarsAviationTravel  11 месяцев назад +1

      I heard this too ‘after’ I’d done the replacement, although because I had a 2nd hand turbo is still has some oil residue inside.
      If you get new/recon units they normally provide a sachet of lube I think to squeeze in.
      Best I can suggest is to either try putting some in with a pipet or turn the engine over with injector plugs off to get oil pressure.

      Just pour some in prior to install, the main issue is to not spin it up dry, in 10 seconds or less the oil will flow so it's really only the first few seconds if the bearings are dry from new. @@NeilsCarsAviationTravel

    Did you have any fault codes because of the turbo?

    • @NeilsCarsAviationTravel
      @NeilsCarsAviationTravel  Год назад +3

      No, there was nothing to suggest a turbo issue. Not even a boost related fault.
      Just lots of smoke around 3-4 mins after startup, no boost and lots of oil under the turbo.

    • @AlexGnok
      @AlexGnok Год назад +1

      @@NeilsCarsAviationTravel
      I see, mine throws an error intermittently (once every few months) so it's very hard to diagnose. Garage said it could be dpf or some sensor, impossible to tell because the fault goes away.
      The error reads "4932 air to EGR mass flow" and internet search suggests it could be anything including the turbo actuator.
      Getting a bid fed up with it and thinking about pxing it
