This is nothing new. Back in 1965 when I was 13 there were 3 boys from the class above (so they would have been 14 - 15 years of age) who repeatedly sexually assaulted me. They would trap me in the classroom or corner me in the playing field where they'd forcibly touch me. I did report it to the PE teacher but she just said to keep out of their way. That made me feel like it was my fault. Two of these boys went on to be successful in their careers (one a policeman). They are now deceased. Living in a small community I've had to listen to people praise them. When I read on social media about one of these abusers had died and all the comments about what a terrific guy he was, I felt sick. We don't just move on and forget what happened. It's unbelievable that this is still happening today.
@@johnb6723 the boys behaviour was disgraceful and they should not have got away with it. But there was also blame on society in general; the teacher who didn't take it seriously and my mother who would have said it was probably my fault for encouraging them if I'd told her. There was no help or advice for young people back then either. All abuse is sickening and it causes long term problems, physical and mental, for the victims. As a society we all need to play our part in stamping it out.

From what I have heard from the school where my partner works the issue is overly sexualised young men who think they can get away with anything and abuse women. This ends up in broader society and the workplace.
I worked in a secondary school for 7 years between 2012 and 2019 which was 98% white. I know for a fact the girls there were not being regularly groped or raped by the boys. I know this because one of my key roles was finding incidents on the CCTV system. I was often asked to find things which were reported in confidence by students to the pastoral team. I watched hundreds of hours of footage, all of which was when the students thought no one else was watching. Yet I never saw one case of any sexual abuse. Not a single one in 7 years. I wonder what towns and cities these numbers are coming from...
@@Studybyaims I know of one particular boy who would grab girl's arses and men's crotches whenever he had to do swimming for PE. I only know that it was the same guy because it happened to all of my mates, including myslself. My school has cameras too but most of the assault that has taken place is just being done off camera, very easily. And for the example I gave in particular, it's not like the assault was recognisable since the person reviewing the footage wouldn't be able to catch someone quickly groping another student underwater when everyone around them is splashing about. So behind stalls, under the stairs, in crowded places like lunch rooms, etc. sexual assault is easily hidden even when cameras are on.
Are you suggesting that the 98% you referred to meant that sexual assault was not a regular occurrence in your school between 2012 and 2019? If so then it is not only racist a comment but an ill informed one considering the responses that followed. It would probably be a good idea to take this comment down, just a suggestion.
I don't know there was a case in the States were a Kidergarden boy kissed a a girl on the hand. He was suspended from school. Would they rather have him punch her in the face?

This seems worryingly conservative from both a reporting and government point-of-view. Are we really going to discourage young people from experimenting with each other and being playful? If an individual was genuinely upset by something then they can accept a simple "sorry" later but childhood is always messy and these young people are just discovering themselves. I worry that we get to a point where people in schools are told that they can't touch each other or tell jokes. This whole thing could get very conservative and very authoritarian very quickly...
@Al . there are probably some extreme examples yes, but I suspect that 95% of it is very tame and just kids being kids, it's healthy for kids to be rough at times, so long as they do not bully
@Al . the definition has shifted a lot - an extreme and small minority would be r*pe - we should not be discouraging curiosity and touching amongst youngsters - touch and intimacy are a crucial part of human development

Hard to believe but it's true and has been going on for years. They just imitate older siblings etc.
