No one will understand this that didn't live through the countless barrage of Slim Whitman commercials I lived through as a kid in the 80s
They were relentless, Merkin! And Slim's enablers at the time claimed that he sold even more records than Elvis and The Beatles.
* We never heard of Slim Whitman or Roger Whittaker but those TV commercials for their "greatest hits" called them "Superstars" ~ The most over-used cliche of the 1970's! ☺

@MerkinMufffly I was a fan of Slim Whitman . Yes some of us Baby Boomers could be mocking and satirical but there were those of us who were also accepting of the going against the grain . I mean how do you think David Bowie became a star

This show was SO funny. Andrea and Joe were also great in the Evita parody..I think a lot of people don't realize how incredible that show was. I think 5 Neat Guys is one of my favorites. Thanks for posting!

I would say only Carol Burnett. Andrea is TOP drawer, without a doubt. Gilda was great, but she had her limits.
I would have never have known who Roger Whittaker and Slim Whitman were if it wasn't for the TV Commercials of their records played over and over and over again every day during the 1970's and early 1980's.
Slim Whitman, Roger Whitaker, Floyd Cramer , Fats Domino, Connie Francis, Victor Borge, and the greatest of all Zamfir, master of the pan flute. Almost forgot, Red Sovine and Boxcar Willie.
Prior to you posting this, I had to bring-up Lee A. Iaacoca's Rock Concert in order to view it about half -way thru. Thank you for posting, and..."funding for this program was supposed to have come from the Chrysler Corporation, due to no fault of our own, our pilot went 3 billion dollars over budget".
Holy smokes I came here for comedy dammit! I did not expect amazing singing ability from these two. Andrea Martin's impersonation is incredible and Joe Flaherty is being ridiculous as Slim Whitman but in between those yodels there is some great vocals happening.

Actually, according to the DVD commentary, Joe Flaherty himself said that his brother actually did the singing, because he couldn't reach the high notes.

I have to wonder what Barbra (with a B) thought of this. Andrea Martin really gets that over-emoting style down. The duet was so over the top when the real Streisand and Diamond performed it on TV that, as a young teen at the time, I thought they really were in love!

When my grandpa passed away one of the things we got in the inheritance was his 8 track player and Slim Whitman collection! Great guy, awesome grandpa, but horrible taste in music!
