There's something magical about Ellen. This pretty, petite blonde walks onto the stage, opens her mouth and BOOM - mind is blown by one helluva voice! :)
One of the most incredible vocalists ever!!! I don’t understand why she didn’t have more of a celebrity status and radio play. Her manager truly mismanaged her career.
Splitting with Meatloaf didn't help. He was big at the time. About 1979-1980s. However, after that he was never as strong. Foley was there consistently for a period of time, and her voice is still strong today. Not down on Meatloaf, but he could have treated some of his band better. Ellen Foley was one of those people. ❤😊
I had the pleasure of meeting Ellen when she came to Australia on a promotional tour - maybe late 70s. She was modest and sweet. That promo tour didn’t lead to anything. I could never understand why. Her autographed poster is still with me. A great talent ❤️
Splitting from Meatloaf when he was at his peak, to establish an individual recording contract didn't help. However, you are correct in your summary. Again the industry is slightly different in the northern hemisphere. Always held in high esteem down here in Australia 🇦🇺. 😊
She teaches somewhere in New York at a rock and roll school that was the inspiration for that Jack Black movie. Although she's 57 years old,she still is beautiful and she still has a great voice.
Pure Genius,How on Earth this didn`t caterpult this Lady on to Better Things is beyond me,first 2 albums she released were criminally ignored,Still one of the Best solo girl Artists of her Time.........
I was 16 when I bought the "Nightout" album in 1979 and this song still gives me goosebumps. Undoubtedly one of the albums that made a deepest impression on me during my teenage years. And this performance by Ellen Foley is second to none!
This was and still is one of my all time favourite albums, wish I was privileged enough to meet her. Awesome and timeless. Will never tire of playing it.
Unbelievably marvellous powerful voice. One of a handful of my all time favourite female singers, along with Shirley Bassey, Dusty Springfield and Jennifer Rush. Just wow! She should have been HUGE!❤️🎸
Ellen Foley you have a beautiful voice and are a very beautiful woman....I loved watching you on Night Court....It was like a beautiful dream to see you on that show....Thank you....
this song is so glorious, it brings out so much emotion. i rise and descend with each lyric. Ellen Foley will always have a place among my favorite artists of all time.
One of the best and strongest female voices you will ever hear. Saw Ellen was on "Paradise by the dashboard light" after hearing that went out and bought every Ellen Foley LP I could find. Every one a gem. Only found 3 though. Love her versatility low-high just awesomeness form the big old awesomeness supermarket :)
She said at the time she wouldn't tour with him or go on stage because she didn't like the way he groped at her and the way he kisses in Paradise by the dash board light. Instead they got someone in to mime her. Such a brilliant voice.
I would check the source of that. I just watched a video of them singing it on Donny & Marie. It’s performance art…not real. I read she was doing a tv show at the time he toured & that was why Karla DeVito subbed in for her.
This song and that album "Nightout" made a deep, deep impression on me way back then as a 16-year old. Ellen Foley literally formed my music taste and this song and performance still gives me goosebumps 41 years later!
I bought her Debut album because of this song, and the whole album was FANTASTIC!! Seriously, I loved almost every song. It's a shame she never became what she should have!
"Nightout" was one of THE albums of my teens. I could come home from school to a empty house and I put "Nightout" on the stereo on high volume to get out my frustrations. Simply magic, and i'm so thankful for this video!
I used to watch Countdown in Australia when I was young. And on the nights you got home late on the weekend, you had Rage to keep you company -- a truly awesome music show. Love Ellen. Majestic music.
I was living in Sydney when Night Out hit the shops. It was a brilliant summer and Miss Foley was simply the best thing to have happened in years!!!!!!!!!
I never heard this on the air-waves in the US. I came upon this artist from a compilation (Epic records). Love her!!! I remember her vocals with Meatloaf and Ian Hunter and her one season appearance (before Markie Post) on "Night Court. I agree "Night Out" album...totally underrated.
I saw her in Night Court and I knew she could sing a little, but how this one escaped me until just a few months ago I'll never understand. I wouldn't compare Ms. Foley's voice to Karen Carpenter because that would be giving them both an injustice. I think this a song could be difficult for a majority couldn't understand the meaning of this song. I believe it was aimed at the new wave crowd of the time. a huge mistake on the part of the PTBs of Columbia Records. Simply put, one of the most romantic songs I have ever heard. I don't believe anyone could possibly perform this as well, including Meat Loaf. I can also feel Jim Steinman's thumbprint all over it.
Hi Ellen, if people from the other side of the world try to get back to your performance after 30 years, it sure means you offered a lot of quality. And it is recognized. Cheers to you from Amsterdam!
... got cut off... production, studio work, and accompanying instrumentation, on a major record label. It;s a GREAT album... how could it possibly have failed?
I wish life was still as simple as it was during the 70s & 80s. Thanks God for the good memories and quality of life when humanity cared for one another. Is this your favorite song?
@@StaciArdmore it's addictive listening to these song, Unfortunately, artist today have no inspiration and no talent for music. Where are you from if you don't mind me asking? I'm from Apeldoorn, Netherlands
Laten wij die toebehoren aan de dag op onze hoede zijn, omgord met het harnas van geloof en liefde,en getooid met met de helm van redding (Tessalonicenzen 5:8)❤God😊
I was at a show last night where one of the performers covered "I Am...I Said", and for some reason, this song came to mind. There's both "hold nothing back, give it all you've got" songs.
Ellen let it go with We Belong to the night (still clapping after 40 years).. Neil gave his soul in so many.. Holy Holly, I am I said, Soolaimon, Brother love, etc. but 'I've been this way before' comes to mind as one that demanded he cover a lot of vocal and emotional range.
A brilliant song from, for me, her best album. The video appears to be her lip-synching to the studio album track (and I cannot see Ronson, Hunter or the other musicians) but as a promo it does the job, including that cracking Ronson guitar solo.

True. However, many musical geniuses including Meat Loaf, recognised her and chose her on occasions. 😊
it's 'cat baby
Awesome. With the legendary Mick Ronson
One of the greatest female singers....EVER!! The notes she can hit, many other female singers can only dream of hitting!!!
Good song of years ago

No fault 😊

What power there is in her voice! Incredible.
One of the brilliant voices in rock 'n' roll history. ❤😅😂
Without any doubt. And totally unique.

Aah, yes , well said, Ellen's voice will be enjoyed by generations not yet here. But , they will have as much enjoyment as we do listening.
Ellen has an amazing voice, I've been a Meatloaf fan for years but recently looking more in depth at backing singers, shes amazing
As a kid, this was the first album that I bought by a female artist. She’s still one of my favourites on Spotify,
Fantastic song
It certainly is.

great rock ballad. very under-rated
I play this nearly once a week. So good

I used to have some of Ellen Foley on vinyl years ago. I'm enjoying a trip down memory lane, but can't find Thunder and Rain, :(
I so love this song, and her voice
I just got my licence and had a pioneer stereo fitted to my car 4 speakers pushing this great song out, great memories..
Great singer and a great song
I like it.

OMG, nostalgia. I used to sing very loudly to this song, thinking I could sing amazing too 😳 😄
One of my Favorite Singer when I was 16 yo, that was 38 yrs ago ...
superbe voix et belles chansons

Thunder and Rain is available on iTunes. I think pretty much all her music is there.
ye zo mooi!
Mirrors by Blue Oyster Cult brought me here! Ellen sang back up vocal on Mirrors title track.
sublime
so good
Thank you, God!
Makes you wonder how many back up singers have a remarkable talent in their own right
Amazing to think she was Meatloaf's backup singer!
I wish life was still as simple as it was during the 70s & 80s. Thanks God for the good memories and quality of life when humanity cared for one another. Is this your favorite song?
