I could live to be 1,000 and I still wouldn't ever understand how Ellen didn't become a *huge* star with that voice.
Ellen is too often underrated. Her voice deserved more great songs.
You need to give examples of this rating nonsense. The lady had fans all over, critical acclaim and the hottest songwriters handed her their work. You need to get away from following the pack, writing RUclips cliches like "under-rated".
@@BlueBeeMCMLXIWell, I am in Australia. Knew she did work with Meatloaf and I bought the Night out album when it came out. Then, nothing. So yeah very much underrated
@@BlueBeeMCMLXI this is my youtube drinking game, I listen to old favorites and when someone is "so underrated" in the comments...DRINK :)
One of the best singers and drop dead gorgeous to boot.
The greatest female voice I have ever heard. Absolutely incredible.
LorelIe, the same for me. I have never heard a better female vocalist, ever. She is, as you have said, absolutely incredible.
Je pense tout à fait comme vous. Une voix vraiment exceptionnelle.
Why weren't songwriters lining up? For decades? Don't understand it. She's a dream singer.
Yeah I knew it was her with Meatloaf. I am 63 and I can proudly say I actually purchased her very first cassette tape 40 something years ago and still marvel at her voice to this day.
As did I! Still among my favourite music.
I'm 54 but at least we have a clear clip now. Greetz from Holland!!
What's the matter baby?
I bought this album and her second album. A powerful voice with no peers. She should have been huge. She had Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson on her first album, and The Clash on her second and it still wasn't enough. Bad marketing, and some self-inflicted wounds.
Also how many of you knew she was also a member of the girl group Pussycat?
Amazing Voice... Remember the rock song Paradise to the dashboard light of meat loaf👍👍👍
She sang her Heart out on Dashboard light.
Paradise by the Dashboard Light
Without doubt one of the most gifted singers/artists of the last 100 years.
What a voice. I first took notice of Ellen Foley in 1980 .with that vocal range she should be a bigger star.very underated .
What a fantastic performer. Great voice and energy. ❤
Ellen always puts on a great performance. She has heart and soul! Thank you Ellen!
"I just can't wait...for the night to come." The way she performs the build up, and delivers that line, while throwing off her coat in the middle, is pretty awesome-- gives me major chills every time. Brilliant performance!
Schitterend nummer, kippenvel.🤩🤩
Totally agree
One of the best voices i've heard in my life.
What a powerful voice!!
-Ellen Foley what a Diva she puts 100 percent into her performances what a voice . Love her
Well you could use a term normally reserved for opera...
The godmother of rock. I love you Ellen, thank you for making me less alone in all my lonely nights😍😍😍
Naturally powerful voice. She makes it look so easy 🌟✨🌟
I so appreciate this woman who does not hold back her heart and soul.. I love to watch this - i think its a brave and beautiful thing to show urself like this...
Hunter and Ronson really utilised Ellen on this album, giving her an almost Wall of Sound backdrop for a voice which is elite tier. The covers were brilliant, Timi Yuro and Jagger/Richards show how grounded in R&R and R&B both are. If they'd produced her 2nd album imho she would've become a global megastar. A sensational debut!
I loved Night Out and bought the follow up album on the strength of that. It was terrible and a waste of my limited money back in those times. I thought you couldn't go wrong with that voice, but you can with the wrong song choices and lesser producers.
Ian Hunter...?
I was a monster fan of Ellen and loved her Night Out album..."Don't let go" is one of my favourite tracks of all time...
How many people know that she was the female voice in "Paradise by the dashboard light" from Meatloaf
it's a shame she wasn't in the video ! Ellen is better looking than karla de Vito she has a better voice as well !
I totaly agree.
hands down the best female singer of power ballad
should have been in the PBTDBL clip.
This song was produced by Mick Ronson of David Bowie The Spiders from Mars fame. Plays lead guitar on this song.
no I did't know that , nice to tell that
Ellen is so good, her voice is so beautiful
Ellen Foley was the best female singer from the western zone in her time fantastico belissimo!
She's a stunner what a voice on her own delivering this Epic Song got this on my Classic Rare Hits Of The 70s
What a voice ❤️❤️❤️
Fell in love with her on Night Court. Had no idea she was a singer, or that she was the female vocalist on Paradise for ages.
A powerful singer who exudes strength and courage.
The Voice and guitar of Ronno in the background!
Such a wonderful song as well as a great singer such a great voice too .. ❤ love the song still plays on the radio 📻
Not a diva, just divine
What a power woman!!!!!! The best song of the 70's....
What a voice.i remember I whas seventeen at the time.and I loved this song.by Ellen foley
I was 16 and this song simply defined my music taste. The most important song of my teens, without doubt!
yeah one of the best singers who can bring really emotion in the song this is a so old song and it gives me chills from a song of maybe 40 years old what a voice thank you ellen that we can play your music still these days awesome 👍👍👍mark
I've been in love with this woman's voice for 30 years, but thi the first time i have seen her. Gosh she is gorgeous
She was also on Night Court's second season.
I actually know her from Into the Woods. She played the witch in San Diego before they brought it to Broadway
She played a waitress in the movie cocktail
Absolute Perfection! The good people of Holland got it right when this song went to #1 there...it also did well in Australia, reaching #15...but why didn't the rest of the world jump on the bandwagon?..This is a definite pop/rock anthem just waiting to be heard by the rest of the world...all I can say is...thank you Ellen for 5 minutes of pure bliss!🎵🎵🎵
This is not a North American song it would not fly here!
I had her album and I loved loved loved it. NZ and Australia.
@@bfulton4 Proud to say that I AM an American, and I love it! I would've cranked the radio up everytime it came on, if it would've been released as a single here! My original comment from a year ago remains true!💜💜
Muzikgirl67
Thank you. Amazingly powerful voice. Thank you, my dear, dear friend and fellow night person.
@@bfulton4
I would have bought it. Beautiful voice, true lyrics, loved it.
Great song!
WOW!!! Ellen is most definitely Rock’s best Female singer who’s unfortunately forgotten & she deserved to be better recognized than just as the musical love interest of the legendary Meatloaf 💗 💕 ❤️ 👩🎤 😯 😳 🤩
Er!, Anne Wilson
I would challenge that she is forgotten, she has fans all over.
She's really sensational!!!

The whole album is fantastic.
I agree, but unfortunately the follow up album wasn't much chop, which is surprising when someone has as great a voice as Ellen had.

Great singer !
The most underrated member of the trio that created bat out of tell. Just check the back cover.
She was also one of the cast in the first season of the sitcom "Night Court."
Second season as Billy Young
@@80smoviesfan Billie.
@@80smoviesfan Really? I thought she was in the first season. Of course, it's been decades.
@@MaskedMan66 they started with Karen Austin
@@80smoviesfan Wow, it has been a long time! I'm ashamed to say I don't even remember her.
Great!!!! Beautifull!!!

Great song
Oh great song
is it very sexist of me to call her an astonishing beaty ? she just made my day.
Ellen Foley super star
Prachtig song i love it
J'aime encore !
Yes I did What a voice 💪🏻
If there is a better female voice in the whole rocknroll business, I'm still waiting to hear it.
You never would
"By day we just survive but after dark we come alive."
Just brilliant solo Ellen Foley excellent
BRILL GREAT VOCALS FROM ELLEN. VERY MEATLOAF SOUNDING SONG.
It's giving Springsteen also.
Ultimate female vocal power ballad.
She'd be Great singing with Meatloaf back in the day. I just saw that she did sing with him on Paradise by the dashboard light.
Such a beautifull girl
That's Billie/lawyer from the sitcom series night court very talented singer/actress
Wow.
Magnificent.
Ellen Foley was NOT underrated. It was not for nothing that she was invited to this Dutch musicprogram 'TopPop', in 1979!
She was funking great had some ripper songs
The lyrics ...
The burning sun hangs over the city
You and me baby, we don't feel nothing at all
From nine to five we're lost
This life ain't so pretty
But when the sun goes down
We know that we can stay and talk
I just can't wait
For the night to come
Cause when the shadows covers the light
We're the only ones
Cause baby, we
We belong to the night
Yes, baby, we
We belong to the night
By day we just survive
But after dark, we come alive
Cause baby, we
We belong to the night
Dancin' on the street
In the heat of the neon
The quiet in the cool night air
Makes it easy to breathe
The music that we hear in our hearts
Gives us something to dream of
Cause when that lonely soul that calls
It's those dreams that we'll need
To keep us strong
To take us far
Far away from the pain of the days
Cause that's a cruel mental start
Cause baby, we
We belong to the night
Yes, baby, we
We belong to the night
By day we just survive
But after dark, we come alive
Cause baby, we
We belong to the night
We belong to the night
Yes, yes baby, we
We belong to the night
By day we just survive
But after dark, we come alive
Cause baby, we
We belong to the night
We belong to the night
We belong to the night
Ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
When singers were real!
Bought the album about 40years ago.great voice sadly follow up albums were mediocre.
Unique voice
Amazing singer... and I LOVED her on _Night_ _Court._ I'm puzzled why this wasn't a big hit. It was better than Pat Benastar's stuff. It was a hit single in Australia and South Africa.
One of my fav.see her in concert and it was fab
Wou dat ik een lieve knul had ook dan had ik weer net zo gezongen als haar
I loved watching here on the Night Court shows!
Love her voice ......
