In the RC hobby we often use battery eliminator circuits (BECs) to increase the voltage from the radio receiver. For example a typical RC receiver outputs 4.8v. A high speed servo may require 6v or more so in this case we could use a BEC to increase the receiver’s 4.8v to 6v or more. It’s more convenient than using a separate battery with a higher voltage for certain accessories.
As a veteran lgb service tech. You where real close on disassembling the boiler. Once the headlamp screw is removed. The railing and headlamp can be slid out and the boiler separates from the cab with no trouble. Also, every mogul had 5 volt headlamps incandescent. Good tip though with using a meter to troubleshoot if an led is present. Lastly, if you are having intermittent problems with the tender tether (umbilical as you described) the wires break off in the 6 pin connector. Very easy to cut the wires, pry apart the connector and redo the connection. Common problem after years of abuse. Nice job
Did a similar thing in Summer 2020. Took all old circuit boards out. Engine is originally from about 1991. Specs Soundtraxx Tsunami2 TSU-4400 (4 amps) AirWire Convertr C60 (6 amps) 16.8V NiMH battery, drop-in LED headlights
JUST BRILLIANT WORK !!---MUCH APPRECIATED !!
Love the Mogul as usual too!
Awesome installation video indeed!

Awesome video. Very informative and you make the process look so easy!!!
All you have to do is edit out the hard parts!

Thanks for the comment and tips. Will use them on the next Mogul install coming up.
Nice you tube thank you for Sharing

Thinking alike. Why NiMH vs. Li-on?
@@Steve2223 kinda long story there but we are already setup with NiMH
I wonder how over engineered New Brights engines are. since I'm going to be heavily upgrading the engine for the Gold Rush express train set.
