    i love this. i actually did a very similar thing for an EP that i recorded. we used a crappy room at a friend’s house and we just used what we had. turned out better than i could imagine 👌🏻

    I just engineered my first official session yesterday in a bands practice space. Ive been studying audio for 6 years but just now getting around to using my skill set. I had HUGE technical difficulties trying to tether my apollo and a focusrite together w adat to get extra inputs BUT i went with plan b and just used the focusrite with all the inputs. It worked out in the end. Got nice levels of everything and tracked two songs

    I totally agree with time and patience. It's actually how i got started recording my own band about 10 years ago. However, most bands dont have time or patience (dont mean that in a derogatory or negative sense). Which is why they pay us to record it. I think its a better investment on both fronts. They only need to stick to what they know. I need to stick to what I know.
    Still, i have been toying around with the idea of a mobile recording studio, and have the gear to do it. This was super helpful.

      Learning a new skill takes a lot of time to invest in. Most bands don’t want to do this themselves, but it’s absolutely possible if they want to put out a great recording done by themselves with no outside influences.

    Anyway we can get a video on the most missed aspect of recording, and that's input levels, and leveling in general, I know it's relative to your ear and the mix but what is the basics your looking for when tracking or setting live sound?

    Also, YES to tuned drums making a difference. The drummer for our band was initially a guitarist. Not only can he not really drum, he also doesnt know how to tune his kit. I had to actually tune it to get a good useable sound. It was really annoying.

    Thats cool and all but i think you forgot 2 main ingredients to record. TIME and PATIENCE. You disappoint me

    • @chrishammillaudio
      @chrishammillaudio  4 месяца назад +3

      The time and patience was spent waiting for the band to be able to play the song to the click 😂

    love that you dont quantize drums. most of the times I go for one single take on drums. no editing at all. my timing is decent using a click ,not grid perfect, but its close enough for r n r

      I get 3-4 solid takes, comp the best of them to a final performance, then lightly edit to *roughly* on time with the click.
