I am almost done helping set up a Sq6 shared between 3 churches and different inputs and channel layouts. Thankfully, my partner is doing the orginaztion chart!
After working in church music/audio, this series is borderline spiritually therapeutic. It does my heart good to hear good church audio setups independent of size and budget.
I'll have to start with audio and video always being interests of mine as well as lighting, I've learned quite a lot through personal research over the past decade or two. I had to get into something that could pay bills involving a certain American delivery service that doesn't specifically involve packages. I have far much more knowledge of a lot of things that I could go further with and I'm now being put into a position of helping clean up the audio of the church that I've been at for a couple of years and really looking forward to the experience of putting my knowledge to use and hopefully build a portfolio off of it.
I love how descriptive you are. I’m blind (top of the spectrum no vision at all) and out of all the RUclips channels I watch that aren’t memes or funny content you are probably the most descriptive and I respect that.
Man I've watched all four episodes and I am still craving some more. Thank you for the help you are providing to these churches because speaking out of experience (as a person who does sound at my local church) most of us are just winging it due to the fact that finding a person who have experience is extremely difficult and VERY VERY EXPENSIVE so we just have to do with what we have and can to get by. So these videos for me are not just for entertainment but also try to learn as much as I can
Oh man, ringing out almost every microphone and mixing monitor wedges from in a highly reverberant room, and you came through with flying colors! All that and keeping a sweet temper with every interaction you had with the musicians and staff. 👏👏👏

Seems like we have to good sounds here, a MIX and a Shelby. Nice Work Chris. I live in brazil and everytime i come here to inspire me on your videos to mix in the church.
Love it. Never seen someone so excited for a Scarlett haha. I tried to do this once in college for a friend at a tiny church. Tried because all they had was a something like a 1980s Peavey PA-200 in a little loft I had to crawl to enter. I think it was something a little better than that, with maybe a 3-band, but oh man. Ancient powered mixer. That said, they had an amazing set of speakers and like 5 wireless Shure earset mics. Such a head scratcher. And I didn't even get to pet a horse. Bet you could turn this into a business all its own.
I was more excited for not having to use the boards usb drive 😂 I’d love to make RUclips a full time thing, but I need more views/subs to turn this into a “you can quit your day job” level income. It’s tough when RUclips only pays me 45% of Adsense profit and just about every video I upload has some form of copyright tag with demonetization.
I love this series so much. I'm currently taking up music technology and seeing the process in a real life scenario is a lot of fun. Learning the process and routing and all.
This always gives me joy. I have been thinking about taking up sound in college, along with being a car mechanic. So if one thing doesn't work out, I'll have options, and I can enjoy myself on either path I take!
@@chrishammillaudio I've still got my senior year, and an extended year to decide and finish taking automechanics. So I'm covered for either route I go. These are two huge passions for me, so it's gonna be a tough one!
When you don't even need to identify a Brazilian, they always proud to wear the flag and wear flip flops anywhere 😂. Nice to see a fellow brazilian in such a nice city like that, congrats bro. Also, nice job Chris, keep on mixing!
something that is often overlooked is a church investing in things that make thier band perform better. This could be hiring a worship leader that can coach the team or investing in resources to make individual band members better. Often when mixing, the abilities of the band is the hardest ceiling to overcome. You can treat the room, optimize processing but you get out what you put in.
That's all I can think when I see some gear heads get so deep in the rabbit hole. Like dude, it doesn't matter if you have a $5,000 drum kit if you can't tune it or hit the center of the head.
I totally agree with you. That investment is critical and not doing it ensures the needle will not move on the desired changes, meaning the complaints will just continue. Just having warm bodies isn't enough.
Sweet Vid! One hangup I have always found when training people on the x32 is DCAs. I don't use them anymore because volunteers sometimes don't remember and if a dca is muted or turned down they can't troubleshoot why the channel is "dead"

There was talk of going down the x32 route when we had a refit of the church but at the time it was a (teaching old dogs new tricks senario) so stuck with analog. Done a lot of read ups and watched tons of vids of a x32 in the hope that one day I can get hands on with one
@@chrishammillaudio tbh with you the classic is the best bang for the buck the telephoto and the wide angle lens sensor on the pro is so small that it honestly doesn’t look good especially with RUclips’s competition.
It's always fun watching these types of videos! Crazy how it feels like really its primarily a matter of getting the basics right for the rest of the sound to follow suit. Keep doing what you do! Good stuff to observe and learn from, and I'm sure for you to experience.
Like you, I also do local mix down meltdowns lol. I don’t know how familiar you are with RTA mics and tuning the speakers “room” with pink noise but it’s helped speed up the process for me. Again, great job. Doing the lords work
That’s good for tuning a room, but not for feedback hunting. Nearly all of the soundcheck was me adjusting the EQ because feedback popped up everywhere.
@@chrishammillaudio In those cases, where do you decide enough is enough trying to EQ feedback out? I've had the situation where you end up removing frequency after another and suddenly the sound is completely wrecked
@@chrishammillaudionice!! I have an E30 and v10 M6 which is a pita, the nimble cars are great but yea that was a really nice car and yes it is hard to argue with that lol
I like these video you make, man. I am about to offer this service in my area (in addition to other sound/music services) and I get a kick out of "renovating" things. Making things look/sound new again. So seeing your vids and hearing the improvement (before and after) gives me energy and happiness. Inspiration too. Keep going! Good job!
I live less than 100 miles from this church. If they need some maintenance in the future and you’re unable to fly all the way out, I’m more than willing to help. ETA: I’m the FoH engineer at the Backyard Bar, Stage, and Grill, and freelance with a few bands on the road.
That patch bay is just a MESS, I can’t work in a space like that. Probably I would disconnect everything and rout those cables first. I love this videos BTW
my church previously had 200 people 30 years ago, and sadly has dropped to 20. We have an old Mackie SRM mixer, and cant afford a Behringer X32. At my school we have one, and I love digital mixers! I am the audio and visual tech at both
He said ok I hear sound Soo our work is done here .. 😂😂😂😂 ...@11:22 and @11:28 Oh no my friend.. it is just the beginning.. we have not even started anything. We are still on phase call the mapping list which is making sure the cables are good and not damaged 😂
Excellent videos! They are so fun to watch! When you are mixing the drums, it would be awesome to know what part of the kit you are EQing or Compressing. Maybe just a little Text in the top left of the frame or something. Thanks for making this series! Truly a treat!!
Fun to look over your shoulder. Thanks! And you poured your coffee on the pc... admit it... ;). There's something weird about pc's though. New they're unstable and need a lot of tweaking. I've always hated my new laptops. After a while you work the kinks out and it becomes very stable. Churches never work the kinks out though. So get a mac for church. On topic: it's so nice to see sound being worked at in a real church with all the quirks that come with them. Nice results!
I used a windows system exclusively for 8 years and ran into these same issues constantly. Windows is shit. Thanks! I was really hairy with the results.
@@chrishammillaudio haha well as long as you're happy with the macs, everything is good. Are you this proficient with all the mixers or do you have extra time on the Behringers? I find it challenging switching between them and finding where all the stuff is from scratch. Especially routing.
I definitely have way more experience on the Behringers because I use them most. One church I just shot a video for last week has an Allen & Heath SQ5.
I don’t want to move too far away from my folks. My mother has not so good health and I need to be close by in case of emergency. If I can find great work, I would entertain moving.

@@chrishammillaudio tbh with you the classic is the best bang for the buck the telephoto and the wide angle lens sensor on the pro is so small that it honestly doesn’t look good especially with RUclips’s competition.
I use drones almost every day for my day job. Definitely would use the Mavic pro 3.
It's always fun watching these types of videos! Crazy how it feels like really its primarily a matter of getting the basics right for the rest of the sound to follow suit. Keep doing what you do! Good stuff to observe and learn from, and I'm sure for you to experience.
Love your channel. You deserve all the success. Respect.
Thanks. Appreciate it 🤘
The before and after is night and day! well done bro!

Until I can hear it at a loud enough volume. Whatever it takes.
Great way to end the vlog, I’m not much of an American car guy but that’s a nice American car forsure lol
I absolutely love my Golf GTI, but I also equally love my Mustang. Nothing beats the sound of an American V8.
@@chrishammillaudionice!! I have an E30 and v10 M6 which is a pita, the nimble cars are great but yea that was a really nice car and yes it is hard to argue with that lol
Keep up the incredible work. This is the inspiring, satisfying work I absolutely love and will root for it as long as you make them
Appreciate it!
Nah as a Cowboys fan and a drummer I totally get that! Hahaha made my day right there!
God Bless Texas! 🤪
Another great video... I'm hoping this "series" of videos really takes off for you man.. I mean obviously it's looking good.
You and me both!
I’m sure they would love it if you reached out to them.
That patch bay is just a MESS, I can’t work in a space like that. Probably I would disconnect everything and rout those cables first. I love this videos BTW
It gave me nightmares.
The brand new windows computer crashing is just classic 😂😂😂
We hadn’t finished the cut over, so that was the old one…😢
my church previously had 200 people 30 years ago, and sadly has dropped to 20. We have an old Mackie SRM mixer, and cant afford a Behringer X32. At my school we have one, and I love digital mixers!
I am the audio and visual tech at both
Analog mixers are fun. Learned how to mix on them.
Love the bass singer at the end of the video.

Oh no my friend.. it is just the beginning.. we have not even started anything.
We are still on phase call the mapping list which is making sure the cables are good and not damaged 😂
We’ve only just begun good sir!
The little sad duckling behind the console got me. Hilarious.
Sound guys love doing shit like that. Doodles everywhere.

Excellent videos! They are so fun to watch! When you are mixing the drums, it would be awesome to know what part of the kit you are EQing or Compressing. Maybe just a little Text in the top left of the frame or something. Thanks for making this series! Truly a treat!!
From L to R in order - kick, snare, rack Tom’s, floor Tom.
Brother as a fellow Jersey-an I made the move and haven’t regretted it at all… I’m a midwesterner now. (From FuZz-Floyd)
I don’t want to move too far away from my folks. My mother has not so good health and I need to be close by in case of emergency.
If I can find great work, I would entertain moving.
Miss your videos. Great drone shots too.
