- So, I was introduced by my BMW E39 group to an absorber specialist by the name of Reiber Auto in Cheras. As an alternative to replace my leaking absorber, Reiber Auto is able to refurbish the suspension with fresh parts and oil.
They also helped me replace all my worn out front suspension arms, which I bought separately from Bavarian Auto.
Cost breakdown:
- Lower Control Arms, Febi - RM235.00 x2
- Control Arms, Lemforder - RM425.00 x2
- Stabilizer Links, Lemforder - RM106.00 x2
- Absorber refurbishing package - RM1,600.00 inclusive labour

Hi Kon, Thanks for your review on our service🙏🏻😬!! Really appreciate it!!!
Cheers Reiber team. Thanks for the great work!
Love the video. Can't imagine the satisfaction of a suscessful refurbished job.
The car drove much better after this. Yes!
Nice just in time after bola finished btw your car look so beautiful man. After change absorber you can drive like crazy lahh just like the driver for Madonna
Madonna's driver has a 4.9-litre V8 with a 6-speed manual, mine 2.2 saja bro..... Haha
Hi kon....i have viewed a similar car fm legitstreet...but it is M5...bought it cheap in US....repaired it like u....and it runs great....it seems that they said d car is a gud car...hmmm very interesting Kon☺️
Few overlook suspension parts that makes big difference is check for worn steering rack bushing and steering shaft coupler.
Kon i follow you nearly everday and am very excited about you E39 project, here at UK its way too expensive to do this sort of project
Labour is relatively cheap where we are, but I think you guys have more abundance of parts no?
@@KonWaiLuen yeah i guess there must be more parts here, since in europe. labour charges unbelievable here. i am lucky that i have decent friend at a garage. i would love to do a project car.
nice video! did you install those chrome ring gauges on the dashboard?
sory for asking .. i saw OKU sticker on ur windshield .. it is previous owner?
If I were you I would opt to use new absorber instead of refurbished. The extra cost of labor is worth it. Factory designed absorber and refurbished ones are different as you would know, I can see that you try to keep the car as stock as possible but with a refurbished absorber, it is no longer stock. But what is spent, is spent. Have fun!
I do see your point, but I think there is also a nice feeling of paying for people's handiwork as opposed to just swapping in new parts.
Hi Kon, just did the refurbishment with Reiber. Was wondering if you were told about a 2 weeks run-in period for the suspension to settle?
Kon, love the mx5 shirt 👍🏻
Very informative video. Whats next to replace?
Brake servo pump. Oxygen sensor. Checking the cooling system too. That's coming up on my next video.
"a lot less roll huh ?! I trust he is using the same amount of force as before......." Hahaha this made my day!!!
Best of the best reiber auto 🚗👌🔥
Hi Kon, how the ride now after 11 month??? The refurbish absorber still running great?
3:05 - Is the whole brake caliper with disk and arms hanging by one brake line?
Do the reconditioned absorbers come with warranty?
Reconditioned or new depends on individuals, but if the original/OEM part is either too expensive or discontinued, and aftermarket is the only way to go, then sometimes reconditioning it is the better option.
6 months warranty
Respect ✊🏽
Cheers!
Hi Kon, possible to do a review between BMW G30 530e and 530i.. Is it worth to go for brand new 530e since there’s alot of promotion compared to 2nd 530i but with full kits..
I've reviewed them separately before. Personally, I prefer the 530i to drive, but the 530e does represent greater value. You lose some equipment, but you still retain what's necessary. If resale value is your concern, do be mindful that hybrids usually depreciate faster than non-hybrid models. My choice would be to visit Premium Selection and see what's the best pre-reg price they can give for the 530i.
Thks Kon.
Wah the lemforder parts so cheap !! Although I do recommend people to replace their absorbers rather than repairing them, change at the 5th year mark would be gd.
Nice, did they change any rubber boots for the shocks?
In the E39's suspension, much like my Waja's, the bushes are built into the arms. Arms actually do not wear, it's the bushes that koyak and cause the entire arm to require replacement.
Awesome video! Learned a lot too! Do they do Audis?
Bobby Ang Yeah they do Bobby. Even newer BMWs equipped with EDC dampers can be done as well.
I think there was a Vios that went there recently too. Azri, you a customer of them?
Yup Kon, I just had my E39 abs replaced at Rieber this week. Running on M-Sport damping with AC Schnitzer springs 😬
Syok! How's the car driving?
Hi Bobby Ang, yes we can do Audis😬
Can see the car looks more sturdy when you drive now, less jumpy.
Mr Kon Wai Luen, currently I'm looking for spare part shop for merc w124 E220. Do you have any recommended spare part shop for me?
I am looking for the interior compartment.....can you tell me where to get it
Hello from Costa Rica! Did you take afterwards the car for four wheel alignment?
Yes, immediately after the job
I like your the technician how they check the absorber good or bad condition, why get a refurbished absorber and dint consider get a better unit like Titan suspension with monotube suspension that can be service this would help reduce cost on longer run.
Hahahaha... cash flow dictated I opt for the cheapest solutions here and now.
Getting a Titan suspension is not that expensive as we thought, if you are free and want for test drive to understand more try their F10 and Ford ranger. How it respond to bumps road sink during cornering.
@@garylow708 thanks for the suggestion. Will consider that when my suspension wears out again next
请问效果满意吗?顺带问你一下您用的轮胎评价如何?
just curious , what was done for the ride height?
It's slightly lower than stock, but not much. I told them to maintain the factory settings as closely as possible.
@@KonWaiLuen i think he was asking for what has been done in order to fix the ride height problem of yours.
I didnt get to see up close, but they didnt need to take the absorber out. Seemed to involve turning a few nuts.
Ohh the shop just behind my house hahah
Incidentally, where do you service your BMW?
i notice your speedometer not moving...how's the performance and consumption of your E 39?
The engine pulls smoothly all the way to 6k rpm, but its lack of mid-range torque does hamper progress on slopes or when you want instantaneous rapid acceleration. FC is a weak point of the 520i. I average about 13-14 l/100km. Amongst my E39 group, and this is corroborated by many others, it is the 3.0-litre 530i that gives best consumption as the engine is significantly less stressed and requires less effort to take off from standstill. The 520i also uses shorter ratios to compensate for its reduced performance over the 525i and 530i.
Wow..Banyak outflow $$$.
Yeah man. Some were anticipated, others not. A few came up ahead of schedule.
Very tempting...
Hi kon, I wanna get a dashcam for my car. Any recommendations?
Joe Wong BlackVue.... not very expensive. Been using the 650s F/R for 2 years. Good quality video
Ah you got M style wheels. Cool. I commented on the video of you picking up the car; look into clear euro OEM HELLA taillights and an already painted titanium sliver boot lid lip spoiler from eBay for cheap. You will transform the look of the rear of the car. Mine was exactly same as yours when I bought it. A bit old man's car looking imo.
Also satin silver gauge rings are cheap, easy to install, and dramatically modernize that dated black gauge cluster face of E39. Some easy mods to update without sacrificing originality.
how was the suspension now? if you still have the car? how did it perform and for how long?
I've moved on to original M Sport suspension. This suspension was good as a stop gap, but nothing beats new absorbers when the old ones wear out.
How much is the front absorber
Do they have Mercedes parts also?
Kon, you may try to buy your parts from Munich Auto. Cheap price among other shops
Thanks for the recommendation!
I need bring my suzuki there la bro...
Go ahead and try them. They do a decent job.
why not at wearnes auto?
For Audi spare see soon at jalan ipoh .
Where is the shop located
This one adeptive suspension?
No la, bro. Old car this one. Haha.
Waiting for my e39
Nice. Update us when it arrives!
From my own experience of refurbishing the front end of my w124, surely will need to go back a few times to rectify other problems that arise from the job they did.
Worse is they fitted something in the wrong position, and they argued it doesn’t matter, and they are the same. Spending 4 digits amount later and left a bitter taste in my mouth knowing something is not fitted properly.
There’s this sort of arrogance in some of these shop owners (note: some), and they will never admit their mistake, makes me lose my respect in whatever reputation they have.
Tbh, if I have the tools and a lift, I would want to take on the job myself and do it properly. Or get a trustable mechanic friend that’s willing to listen and learn, then take on the job together.
Hope you enjoy the journey returning your E39 to good condition and have less heartache.
I feel for you, mate. Maybe you should check out some social media sites in which you can find some W124 owners clubs. The folk there should be able to get you in touch with a reliable mechanic.
Hi bro. I feel you too. Im also a W124 owner. The mechanic that use to work on my car ald pencen. And its hard to get proper hands on my car. I do feel same like getting own tool and own garage. It like a dream if I can spend good time to work on my car.
Why dont you just replace the bushing??
Investigated that possibility. The E39's bushes are built into the arms. The whole piece is meant to be replaced when the bushes fail. Interestingly enough, the same philosophy is applied with the suspension arms of my Waja. Some shops do offer the service of injecting silicone to pad up the worn out bushes. Abang Wan of Reiber says it can be done, but he does not vouch for the ride quality on road use. For track use, he says it's fine, but most users may find it a little to harsh for the road.
I always thought Bavarian Auto was a subsidiary of BMW Malaysia, so I always thought you only had one option for parts.
Nope. I've since discovered another alternative. Bomin Auto. Maintaining this car, can't depend on one workshop, need to build a panel.
I agree. Not only for the E39, also looking at options for the future for the F10.
For your tip, most German car part just go to Jalan Ipoh. They are importers of the parts and distribute around. For your E39 can also go try First Division opposite Petron along a Bosch Accessories shop. There is one Botak guy that is very friendly and experience in E39(if not mistaken he own one himself). Happy driving
Any update ? How is your Absober now?
So far so good. The front is a little too low for my liking, but the rebuild is holding up thus far. May change them later this year if needed.
Kon Wai Luen thanks for the update
@@KonWaiLuen Does that mean they have challenge maintaining "Factory" settings as you said in the video you asked them to keep it original, which they cannot and make it lower ?
Yo .. why are you keeping this car? Any sentimental value?
Just bought, bro
Bro can help find out spare part shop for Ford..
I recently ordered an inner door handle for my mom's Escape from this site ikutkiri.com. Part still en route, so no review for them just yet.
Kon Wai Luen thanks... i have a look at it
I am facing the same issue with my E39.🤦🏾♂️
This racun making want a e39 to restore, give us a review of the suspension refurb..the tie rods if they fail will start rattling like mad, should of just replaced it..
ruclips.net/video/PH5cnYAJOgU/видео.html
this was recorded after the suspension refurbishment.
Hey Kon, how's the suspension holding up so far? Mind to share with us?
For now still good. The front bottoms out a little on severe bumps, but otherwise no complaints. Will change new dampers the next time they wear out la though. No disrespect to Abang Wan's good work, but won't rebuild the absorbers more than once if budget permits. Moving forward, the plan will be to alternate between new and rebuilt absorbers at each change.
Thanks for the update. Thumbs up
can i have your center full address?
i think the workshop is opposite pandan jaya lrt station..i live near the place
Hi Kon, just did the refurbishment with Reiber. Was wondering if you were told about a 2 weeks run-in period for the suspension to settle?
I don't remember being told such a thing. What is defined as "run-in"?
@@KonWaiLuen Thanks Kon. Was wondering how to tell the difference between msport and regular suspension. Was told the springs on mine were not msport but VIN says it is with s705 msport 2 suspension setup.
@@KonWaiLuen ‘run in’ as in for it to settle and ‘soften’’ as they were very stiff. Anyway, have since changed the old tires and felt better. However, on our potholes, it is quite far from comfort.
