#TheKinKs & #RayDavies Preservation Society sends out their deepest sympathies and condolences to all of Tom Petty's family, band , fans, and friends - he loved the KinKs and we loved him! @tompetty RIP TOM ❤️😪❤️ @TheKinks
Thx Frank Lima love the KINKS! Listened again to Tom’s hilariously classic driving story at the end. I JUST NOTICED I posted this rarity on 10.1.13 (dated 10.1.03) from my VHS collection. Tom had cardiac arrest on 10.1.17 💔😢and went to his reward 😇😎🎩🎸on October 2 of 2017 (also his birth month)... I just realized all this today when someone liked & commented about the video! facebook.com/groups/tompettynation/permalink/1633343743427754/
A great musician knows a great musician. Tom always gave credit to everyone else. He was humbly shy but quite a story teller. Got to love his comment “Hollywood runs the government”.
I've always loved Tom Petty and if I didn't I would have after I saw this! God save #TheKinKs my #1 favorite band of all time from 1964 thru 1996 and I still follow the solo careers of #RayDavies & #DaveDavies to this very day! Ray Davies is the #1 & undisputed world champion of song writers. and don't worry Tom Petty is one of my favorites too!
Dan is a fan and he lives for their music it's the only thing that get's him by...Ray didn't write those lines with me in mind for no good reason, in 1978 he was still living in NYC he and I kept in contact and saw each other every once in a while in fact we still do, and I already at that time had been to well over 200 KinKs shows!
Tom had lots of run ins with them “shadow people” as he called em in his final album Hypnotic Eye 👁️ … for example when his home got burnt down around the time he was in a huge legal conflict with his record company for raising the price of the record HARD PROMISES in the mid 1980’s… “… I'm an insider, I've been burned by the fire And I've had to live with some hard promises I've crawled through the briars I'm an insider It's a circle of deception It's a hall of strangers It's a cage without a key You can feel the danger…” “… Well I ain't on the left, and I ain't on the right I ain't even sure, I got a dog in this fight In my time of need, in my time of grief I feel like a shadow's falling over me Like shadow people, in shadow land Shadow people, in shadow land Shadow people, in the shadow land Waiting for the sun to be straight overhead 'Til we ain't got no shadow at all..” He’s in that shadowless realm now. Appreciate all he did & communicated to red pill 💊 humanity.
I sensed that and had to repeat the sequence as English is nowt my mother tongue, feels so good when one hears a mysteriously truthful comment such as this. Tom was loved beyond all borders and music knows no border anyhow. Thanks also to you
Very nice tune. Tom Petty is very engaging, l like this interview a lot. Very funny, so normal. LOL ! Great Stuff. Thank you Jay Leno and thank You for posting 🦆😆
Oh wow! I didn’t realize they ever shared the same bill… you are one lucky DAWG to experience them both circa 1977… in Paris of all places. Thanks for commenting… it seems that Kinks/TP connections keep on popping out of the woodwork as a result of this impromptu video (appearance on the Tonight Show).
Oh yes. There's a bit in the Zanes bio about Ray being a jerk at a show by staying after the Kinks finished soundcheck, playing "Tired of Waiting" over and over; The Heartbreakers couldn't get up and do their soundcheck. When Mick Avory tried to help them, Ray decked him, and they went outside fighting. After five minutes it was resolved in Tom and the band's favour. One of the incidents that made them decide never to open for anyone again (well, except Bob Dylan).

I was lucky enough to see The Kinks twice back in early and mid-1970s. I was unfortunate to have never seen Tom and The Heartbreakers live :(
A great musician knows a great musician. Tom always gave credit to everyone else. He was humbly shy but quite a story teller. Got to love his comment “Hollywood runs the government”.
Tom loved his covers. He always gave the songs full respect. Miss you Tom.
I’m clean and fairly sober!! Lol.Tom was so funny! Damn I miss that man
Ah ha ha! Never saw this until now. Tom Petty, not just a musician, a comedian as well. RIP Tom. We love and miss you.
Never heard this before and I was a pretty big kinks fan as well as Tom P
First of all sick cover, sick firebird, sick mosrite sick rickenbacker, sick band this is awsome!
I totally love the driving story!! LoL
Ahhh Tom... never afraid to throw himself under the bus...what a funny story. "Clean and fairly sober"
I really loved Tom Petty. He was amazing
Tom and the Heartbreakers perform this song like it's their own which is a compliment to The Kinks. Thanks and God Bless, Doug Alexander.

Refrendo cada frase tuya Viva a los Kinks por siempre por mi vida y gracias.
Love this!
If you're British, you know which member of the Heartbreakers was never seen in the same room at the same time with Ken Dodd!
A lot more to that final comment than meets the 👁
Tom knew....rip brother , You are missed 💘💔💘

“… I'm an insider, I've been burned by the fire
And I've had to live with some hard promises
I've crawled through the briars
I'm an insider
It's a circle of deception
It's a hall of strangers
It's a cage without a key
You can feel the danger…”
“… Well I ain't on the left, and I ain't on the right
I ain't even sure, I got a dog in this fight
In my time of need, in my time of grief
I feel like a shadow's falling over me
Like shadow people, in shadow land
Shadow people, in shadow land
Shadow people, in the shadow land
Waiting for the sun to be straight overhead
'Til we ain't got no shadow at all..”

Oh love to see this ♥️♥️♥️
TP channelling Ray Davies! I wonder if they ever met? Great song, great rockers! Xxx

Thank you for sharing this! I love the kinks and this is great by Tom and love the car wreck story too.
Super TP Heartbreakers, The Best
cracking version!
The music is different a very cool sound! Love. Love the rhythm.🥰
THANKS SO MUCH for posting this!
I laughed my ass off!!!
😀😂
Shut up, Leno. Let the man talk!
Decent version of a great song as done by the kinks. Get rid of that harmonica, which does nothing but gum it up.
