Young Jazz Ensemble - Grade 3
This 1975 tune by the Temptations is one of their later hits and described as “funkadelic” in style. This chart from Paul Murtha features the infectious bass line first stated by baritone sax and guitar, and later joined by the rest of the ensemble on the funky riffs. The solo section on a one-chord vamp can easily be opened up, but samples are provided for alto sax, trumpet, and trombone. Definitely a fun chart with attitude!

Woa. A baritone saxophone solo. That is the most amazing thing ever!!! You never really see that in music. I just can't believe it.
Our high school jazz band has that part. We are playing this song. Yes it really is quite something. When the baritone attends of course!
You HAVE to listen to Wave, just search up Wave Bari Sax Feature.
Yeah it's a lot of fun to play that part, me being the bari player in our jazz band
i love playing this song STANK!!!!!!
My school Tinley park high schools rendition of this song is amazing!
Jacquelyn Ryan Tinley Park in the south suburbs of Chicago?
This song gives me mood
This always reminds me of Toejam & Earl.
I play bari for this piece in my stage band, it is a huge amount of fun. I even get a bari solo! Super excited to perform later this year.
The saxophone solo transition is soooo clean!
This song is just amazing!!
Very nice! Grongatulations !!!!
Best to listen to at 1.25 times speed.
IS THIS MARIO KART WHAT
but that isnt the actual speed the song is supposed to be played
and?
Eli Warshaw no song is ever supposed to be actually specifically anything. A song can be interpreted by anyone and their way is the right way and so is yours as there is no right way, however in a group there can be an agreed upon way for the sake of an enjoyable piece for the audiance.
Shoe's Artwork should've been in Mk8D 🤣
The back line needs to be turned up. The whole appeal of this tune is the rhythm riff and you can't hear it in this mix.
I remember playing this on middle school
*in
Serman Guertinez omg
That's when I'm playing it
1:27 is pure nasty
yup
Nice
who else is playing this?
Jasmin Reacts, in the positive or the negative sense?
I want to play it because I’m changing from tenor to Bari next year
I wish
I can but my band cant
Me
1.75 speed sounds sick
that trumpet solo had all the problems of a bad solo- like actually every individual one. never let paul murtha cook again.
Nice
