Ok so in my band room there was a chalkboard from before the room got a whiteboard, and on it was this amazing drawing of a guy in a suit with a watermelon for a head. No one knows who drew it, because it was so long ago, even before the current band teacher. I’m pretty sure that picture was from this song, and I now feel like I’ve stumbled upon some hidden conspiracy secret right now. Unfortunately, the school hired a new janitor this year who erased the famed piece of art. Such a tragedy. Now all that remains on the chalkboard is a crudely drawn gravestone. R.I.P. watermelon man you will be missed. Now the only weird things in the band room is the skull next to the timpani and the 20 year old sandwich on the ceiling lights. :(
we've gotta cardboard cut-out of one of the teachers at our school, a door labeled "ninja exit only", a banana suit on top of the percussion storage shelf, an angry face made of electrical tape, and my friends and I put band propaganda posters all over the orchestra room.
I play alto and Bari and clarinet although they're not rlly part of jazz bands but I love the bari sax part as well as the keyboard part + The electric guitar
I play alto. We’re playing this arrangement in our jazz ensemble right now and it’s a super fun piece. We just got Sing, Sing, Sing though. I’m slightly intimidated😂 I’m excited to learn it though
I played this for the Lional Hampton Jazz Festival in Febuary this year, and we got almost perfect scores in the 3D division (I'm in the second band). It was definitely a favorite of the class, it's so much fun! Our flute soloist was AWESOME!! I am a bari sax player and it was sooo much fun! We finally have a chance to be heard!! Like if you play bari!!
3:30 omg I cannot stop listening to this part! It’s so good! I played this on alto in middle school and now I am a bari player. I want to play this on bari so badly!
can u explain to me what the fourth line is? is that hi-hat? I'm confused cuz later on in the song it says hihat again but this time it's written different. can u explain please? I'd really appreciate it :)
This is my Dad’s account but I am a girl and my boyfriend plays the bari saxophone 🎷 and I play tenor saxophone 🎷 in the same jazz band with him. We are playing this song in our jazz band and we both have solos.
@@kevinhornbuckle I'm picturing a middle aged man staring at his phone in utter confusion wondering why someone named Kevin Hornbuckle is asking him how a jazz concert went
If you’re a bari sax player (like myself) and say you don’t like this song? you’re lying. you have to like this song. you are legally oblidged to love this song.
This sounds so similar to cantaloupe island, with the chord and intensity progressions. Even the baselines are almost identical at some parts. (I know they have the same arrangers)
My jazz band is playing this and I'm so incredibly stressed out. I'm a piano player of 14 years but I've never read music in my life. I was born with perfect pitch so I've learned everything by ear up to this point. I was handed the sheet music for this piece about a week ago and every night has been me crying on my floor trying to teach myself to read. I legitimately feel like I'm learning Chinese from scratch and I'm so stressed out. This piece is making me hate it, even though it's so good 🙏😭
I play the trumpet and this is a super fun song to play-even though I don’t play the bari sax they add a super good touch to the trumpets solo at 72 lol

honestly i like it better down tempo because it grooves so much better and it's so much more fun than playing it uptempo
Me listening to this song a few hours before my rehearsal on this song is stressful 😂😂😂😂

I love this song so much I remember playing the sax solo in my grade 10 year of high school
Those drum fills at the end tho, that's what I call str8 spittin' fire

Pretty sure this is the exact arrangement I play in my band class. But we have a really small band. Like, around 9 horns and 7 in the rhythm section.
