It’s great every once in a while to watch an opening like this one. No autos, superfractors, numbered cards, jersey cards, etc. Just cards. The way it used to be.
'76 is when as a 13 yr. old I started collecting. Remember going to the local store plopping down my quarters & happily coming home during the hot summer w/my Slurpee. Topps packs & a comic book or two. Always in search of Reggie & Pete. Good times!
I started collecting cards again about 18 months ago. We have a baseball card shop here( there's not many more around like back in the 80s and 90s) but Everytime I go I buy old cards from the 80s and 90s and it always make me feel like a kid again. I go twice a week. Sometimes weekly but it's such a thrill. 😊
I love these old breaks! There's so much anticipation for the next card. The whole time I was hoping for that sweet Eddie Murray card or the Ryan. At least we got the Ryan!
Fantastic choice going with the 78 Topps. I was alive in 1978 and I did buy a lot of them. Enough that I put the complete set together. I had 4 Eddie Murray cards back in the day. I only kept one for the complete set and sold the other three to buy more cards in the late 80's
I'm not a card collector I did as a kid in the early 80's but I'm always amazed a peice of paper with a picture can be worth so much money. I love the Thursday show seeing all the players I know and love. Wade Boggs and reggie Jackson were always my two favorites
I’m from Detroit and as a kid I bought a ton of these that year. I got a ton of Yankees but hardly any Tigers. All I ever wanted was the Bird Fidrych but a pic of the card I cut out of Parade which came with the Sunday paper was all I ever got.
Erik, thank you for this trip down memory lane!! I was 11 in ‘78 and had so many of these cards in my bike spokes 🚲=🏍🤷🏼♂️🤦🏻♂️we were kids!! LOL love the look. Pack freakin fresh!! The Hawk looked so young!!
32:51 I hope Jonathan does include that note to PSA so they know it was pack to one touch. That will overrule any condition issues and instant PSA 10. LOL
The stamp inside box also says "order supplies online" people in 1978 didn't know wtf online meant in 1978. I was a senior in high school then. How is this inside an unopened box of baseball cards from 1978? Am I wrong. I have a box from 1979 and it doesn't say anything like that on it anywhere.
Great break and great cards. You never lose the excitement of open up a pack of cards and finding that great card. Great video's so keep up the great job.
Growing up 1990, 12 yrs old, I had a ‘54 Stan Musial and a R Yount Rk, I starred collecting in ‘89, went crazy when I got a Chris Sabo and Bo Jackson. Lol
Love this set. Just received the Murphy card in mail today off eBay. Hoping to complete Braves set from this as well as HOFers. Thanks for sharing!! God Bless!
Nice Ryan! The thing you have to wonder about older cello packs is if collectors were able guess which packs likely have the big hits in them based on the top and bottom cards. If people knew that Ryan was going to be worth thousands today, who knows if that would have came out of this box.
1978 Topps Baseball and Football cards were the 1st ones I collected as a kid, so they hold a very special place in my heart. I remember getting my allowance and going to the store to buy them.
Really enjoyed this video, how the video is done, your explanations. really brought back some memories. Collected mainly in the 1970’s, but things happen sold off my collection, if I only knew then what I know now, there might have been a few great cards I had, considering I had around 50,000+ cards, only if we could go back in time, lol. I’m sure I had a few high $$$ cards. This was probably the last year I bought cards. Makes me want to get back into collecting again.
Nice break, some nice cards. I just wish you could have pulled a Murray. He's my all time favorite player and it would have been cool to see that one pulled fresh out of the pack. Still cool to see, this was even a year before I opened my first pack.
I used to have this complete set, In 1984 I bought a few Topps variety cello packs from a K Mart, the ones that come in a strip of 3 packs, when I opened pack 2 there was a probably PSA 7 or so 1962 Willie Mays, the year with the wood borders, being 84 it was only 22 years old and not worth anywhere near what it is now and I had a friend who ended up opening a card store in our town with his dad, he offered me a 78 Topps set still in the wrapper for it and I agreed lol, I kick myself to this day
That's what checklists were for.... loved the checklist because we could keep track of our collections ! See what we had and what we needed.... I would trade cards for checklists asap so I'd know who was in the full set ✌😎 That 2nd Morris looked pretty good.... Maybe a 7 - 8 or with some luck a 9 but a 10 is a big ask from PSA for cards from the 70's ! Good luck to all of those who got some big name cards 😉 Rose should be in the HOF ! God knows the have plenty of his record breaking items in there.... so it's time !
78 is a nice looking set! I also love 82. They used to give away the 82 Topps Red Sox player cards at a local ice cream place called Brighams. The cards had a Coke and Brighams logo on them.
This is the oddest suggestion for you. I had thought I had watched all of your videos and then this pops up and surprises me. Great RIP> Little known fact, Tom Hume's mom had the same reaction when he was born. "awww thought we had something good." 😂
Chris Drake ik right, his son is in my grade. Got to go to target field to watch him give a speech about being brought into the hof along with the rest of our baseball organization
I used to buy these same packs as a kid in a grocery store in Wheeling Wv as a kid. I used to buy stacks of these cello packs every trip to the store....and comic books
I bought these cellophane packs from this year at Thrify Drugstore in Vacaville Ca. Back in the day. I still have a nice pile of them in my collection.
What is the point of having this resealed and "certified" by the baseball exchange when it's obvious the packs inside have been manipulated? (USPS box looks like it was inserted for structural support)
If this box was tampered with or repacked or anything suspect, there’s no way in hell they would leave that Ryan in there! With only three PSA 10 Ryan’s out there, there’s no way they leave it in there! That Nolan Ryan he pulled is between a 9.5 & 10 easily.
It’s great every once in a while to watch an opening like this one. No autos, superfractors, numbered cards, jersey cards, etc. Just cards. The way it used to be.
Amen. I started collecting cards in the late 80s, early 90s and it was just cards and bubble gum. I'm 46 now. I miss those days 😢
Born in 1963 loved baseball cards and the Tigers! Spent a Lion share of my paper route money on cards😊 Just never took care of them
That Jack Morris rookie card must have made your heart take flight!
1977 Topps were the best! Ron LeFlore (all-star), Rusty Staub (all-star), Mark Fidrych.
'76 is when as a 13 yr. old I started collecting. Remember going to the local store plopping down my quarters & happily coming home during the hot summer w/my Slurpee. Topps packs & a comic book or two. Always in search of Reggie & Pete. Good times!
These old cards take me back to my youth. I was 10 when this set was out, only if I had those cards still.
Sometimes a touch of WD-40 gets rid of the gum residue. Its old collector's trick.
I started collecting cards again about 18 months ago. Wow!! some amazing pulls! That Nolan Ryan is so clean!
How much was this box?
@@Wolf-xu1fj I didnt open this box, youd need to ask the person whose channel it is...also u r replying to a video/comment from 4 years ago.
Back in the 70's, I loved the checklists. That was my only way of knowing who I was missing.
I love how excited you get when you pull a hit! It’s awesome to be able to feel your love of the chase and collecting.
These look in great condition and remembered getting this set taken up in class during grade school. GREAT VIDEO!
awesome nolan ryan!! great throwback thursday!!
I'm not a card collector I did as a kid in the early 80's but I'm always amazed a peice of paper with a picture can be worth so much money. I love the Thursday show seeing all the players I know and love. Wade Boggs and reggie Jackson were always my two favorites
I LOVE the looks of the '78 Topps set!!
I’m from Detroit and as a kid I bought a ton of these that year. I got a ton of Yankees but hardly any Tigers. All I ever wanted was the Bird Fidrych but a pic of the card I cut out of Parade which came with the Sunday paper was all I ever got.
Im a professional card dealer. I suggest spraying each card with a clear coat resin. It helps with creases and shine.
How much was this box?
Ya that’s funny
Erik, thank you for this trip down memory lane!! I was 11 in ‘78 and had so many of these cards in my bike spokes 🚲=🏍🤷🏼♂️🤦🏻♂️we were kids!! LOL love the look. Pack freakin fresh!! The Hawk looked so young!!
I was 9 years old and 78 was the first cards I bought. Was at Kmart every weekend buying rack packs for 79 cent's with my allowance 😀
Really cool break. Some good hits and happy to see the Ryan, Rose and other Rookies.
Love throwback Thursday! So much fun. Bummer no Murray, but very nice Nolan Ryan and Jack Morris cards. Loved the Johnny Bench as well
Brought back memories of the old days for me. I can still remember being 9 years old opening 1965 packs. Thanks Erik for the memories, great open.
Great stuff as usual Erik, keep ripping the old stuff brings back memories of my childhood I started really collecting hardcore in 1972.
32:51 I hope Jonathan does include that note to PSA so they know it was pack to one touch. That will overrule any condition issues and instant PSA 10. LOL
WOW, this was my time collecting cards.. I remember all of these cards.. I just wish I still had them..
Oh, man. I’d love to have that Dawson gold cup card. My baseball hero.
I used to live about 5 miles from this store. I took my son there a couple years back while we were back up there visiting family.
The Internet didn't go public until 1993
Wow! Nolan Ryan card like that is a pipe dream.
Great to see that you actually got one of the big cards in this one
Great break and great cards. You never lose the excitement of open up a pack of cards and finding that great card. Great video's so keep up the great job.
cello packs are the way to go! Those cards look really nice for being over 40 years old!
I love the 1978 Topps set. It’s one of the first I remember trying to complete the set.
I had most of these cards from this year. I started collecting these for fun as a 6 year old.
I opened 100s of 78 Topps packs when I was a kid.
Great video I had 82 Topps cards 1954 PSA 8 sad to say lost my job had to sale. This was 5 years ago,I wish still had them. Well that’s life.
Wow! man wish i had a time machine. I love your throwback Thursdays!!!
Thats a good looking set would love to own a complete set. Congrats Jason C. on that Nolan Ryan beautiful card.
Growing up 1990, 12 yrs old, I had a ‘54 Stan Musial and a R Yount Rk, I starred collecting in ‘89, went crazy when I got a Chris Sabo and Bo Jackson. Lol
Brings back a lot of great childhood memories.
$8 in 1978 was worth about $31+ in 2019 dollars. Was super cool to see the Ryan right towards the end. Good stuff.
Awesome year for Topps!! Love the rookies coming out of here. Great video and congrats on the awesome pulls
Hey there. I was 9yrs old when this came out. As I am 50 this year it’s making me feel old. Lol.
I really enjoy watching the throwback video's the hunt for what could be in it
Oh man, thats a beautiful Nolan Ryan!
Man. That was fun Jabs. I know 4yrs old , hadn't seen this one. Thx. Rainy Sunday fun.
Beautiful cards. Nice to see them pack-fresh. Thanks Erik, this is a great series.
that nolan Ryan man,my heart jumped outta my chest for a sec!!!!
Hope to see 1970s boxes more often in the future! I know they cost an arm and a leg.
I love these when I was a kid! we would look through the box for a star.
always great to see the older cards.
Nice break and this is the first time I have seen somebody do a 70s box keep it up
jack morris is all over ebay in a psa 9 for around $60.00 to $80.00
I love seeing all of these packs from before I was born being opened (born in 94); I love the history of the game, so it is awesome to see!
Awesome Nolan Ryan Card!
Awesome! love the throwback Thursday, some of those cards looked like PSA 9 or PSA 10
love topps and these old openings are amazing i wish cards were still 50c lol
Nice TBT break. Sweet to see the Ryan pulled! I hope it's a PSA 10! Thanks for sharing!
Love the throwback series. Can't wait to see some older wax get opened!!

I love the throwback Thursday and this one was very exciting to watch.
I really miss the days of buying cards, opening them, chewing gum, etc... good times!
Nice! Really enjoyed the old cards in the Thursday Throwbacks. The Nolan Ryan pull was sweet at the end!!
That was cool. Never seen a 70s box opening before.

Awesome throwback Thursday. I wish I would have bought into it
I was only four years old when this set came out. Started collecting around 1984
Any update on the Ryan card? Was it graded?
Those cards look so good and clean, 40 year old brand new card .nice
Great Throw Back Thursday Break. Lot of Hall of Famers
I love seeing those old cards in such a good condition.
You just scared the lights out of me, lol good nolan ryan
Love old Topps sets!
When I first collected, I stumbled across a collection at this garage sale. I regret passing it up.
78 is a nice looking set! I also love 82. They used to give away the 82 Topps Red Sox player cards at a local ice cream place called Brighams. The cards had a Coke and Brighams logo on them.

Jack Morris rookies, the winningest pitcher in the awesome 80s! Okay Jabs I need a Delorean time machine like Back To The Future!
Chris Drake ik right, his son is in my grade. Got to go to target field to watch him give a speech about being brought into the hof along with the rest of our baseball organization
Erik...cannot say it enough....you are the man..!!!
Big Jim
Fantastic TBT! Thank you!
I used to buy these same packs as a kid in a grocery store in Wheeling Wv as a kid. I used to buy stacks of these cello packs every trip to the store....and comic books
PETE ROSE FOR THE HALL OF FAME!!!! ITS TIME!!!!
I bought these cellophane packs from this year at Thrify Drugstore in Vacaville Ca. Back in the day. I still have a nice pile of them in my collection.
Hello it's me Ronnie Earl I enjoy watching this cool
Great cards. I remember opening these when I was a kid.
Hitting those 70's is awesome!
crazy how some of these old boxes survived
My 78 Topps are in rough shape because we played the game as a kids :( Nice video
Yeah me too I love playing that game as a kid
Fun break. Lots of info. Dang gum!
Love your enthusiasm! Keep it up!
It’s incredible you got this!! Great video!
Wow Unbelievable! Congratulations Jason. Nice pull jabs
Great break! I love old cards.
Really enjoyed seeing this break.

The back of the Ryan is off center. It's still beautiful though.
Guessing the Ryan comes back as an 8.
Super cool! These are almost as old as me -- but in much better shape. :D
I love the old boxes from the 70s
Another awesome break. Love your videos!
Finally broke the John Wathan curse by pullin that Nolan Ryan shortly after. Good job.
