I was 8 years old when these came out and I can remember my brother and I ripping many of these gems in that summer of 83. great memories. Thanks for doing this break Erik!
This is the perfect throwback Thursday for me. I had this whole set back in the day. Thanks so much for sharing. So many great memories here. Feel free to throw a few of these in my Patreon....lol
8:45 25:01 25:10 If you’re ever opening 1983 Topps packs and you want a Tony Gwynn RC, these are the cards to look out for….. Reggie Smith Marty Bystrom Joel Youngblood Harold Baines Luis Sanchez Bruce Sutter Bobby Mitchell Joaquin Andujar Billy Sample
I love it! This was the first box of cards I ever got. It was a birthday present to me from my dad on my twelfth birthday. It got me into the Hobby and I've never quit.
Great video once again! Cannot imagine why people give your videos a thumbs down. First time I’ve ever seen the Dale Murphy 83 Topps. My all time favorite player. Deserves the HOF. I didn’t seriously start collecting until 1984 so didn’t get any 83. Thanks for sharing!! God Bless!!
I just love the WEALTH of knowledge you have. You're killing me with these AWESOME obscure insights and raw facts. @18:53 is classic. Thanks for an entertaining show!
Just watching you open this box and seeing those blue packs of baseball cards bring back so many memories for me!! I used to go back and forth to Dales Liquor in Carson California on my bike to buy these almost everyday! Anytime i got my hands on spare change laying around the house it went to buying cards! Haha! The Good ole days!! Thanks for this Eric!!
Opened a ton of 1983 back in the day. You actually just missed a 4th Gwynn at the 28:49 mark, Gwynn follows Andujar and before Sample, you will notice at the split was another Billy Sample, just missed the 4th Gwynn.
I really enjoy watching these breaks. And thank you for taking extreme care when handling the cards when placing them into the one touches. I see other breakers that make me cringe when they handle cards.
What an awesome break! I remember buying these cards back in the day....I was a manager at 7-11 from 1976-1993 ,and would sit these on the counter as point of sale! I would order boxes for myself at cost!!....very cheap
Awesome again J-Fam ! Stay in the game and Please keep slapping me in the face with my childhood ! Love it ! And FYI every time you pulled a good card a commercial popped up before the reveal !! Lol !!
I was 8 when these came out. Gwynn is best hitter I ever seen play. But Sandberg is one of my favorite players. I played 2nd because of him love Cubs of the 80s. I enjoyed watching thanks
Awesome vid! These were one of my favorites of the '80s. My grandpa gave me the Cardinals set from that year. I was a St. Louis fan after that, lol. Hope your summer was good and good luck this school year!
That was awesome! Love these throwback Thursdays! These are the baseball and football cards I love most. I feel the excitement with you. I have never pulled a Boggs out of a pack. Best pack I ever opened, was a Michigan Test pack that had both a Ryne Sandberg and Tony Gwynn rookie card in it! I still get excited about it. Keep up the good work. I think moving forward, taking a bite of every piece of gum in every pack brings out the best luck! 😂
Love ‘83 Topps design and Love the Ryno RC!! Glad to see one pulled! Along with 3 Gwynn RCs!!! Crazy! Congrats to Jonathan H for 2 of them, if anyone deserves em, it’s him!
I remember that box. My father bought like 3 to 5 of those boxes for me. I had just came back from a vacation from PR and was like 8 yrs old. I wish I could go back in time and had saved those boxes.
i bought numerous boxes of these summer of ‘83, i played that scratch-off game, my friends all ate the gum, i had assembled two 1983 topps sets, had all those great rookies..
Topps 1983 is the set of cards I used to play imaginary games with. So mine are mostly beat up! Loved the design of these cards! Have 3 Ryne Sandbergs and Wade Boggs somehow in most likely PSA 7.5-9.
I remember as a kid I mowed my parents lawn every weekend for half a year to save $60 so I could buy that Ryne Sandberg rookie from my local card shop. It was magical walking home with that card in my pocket.
Those cards are still a steal even at 400 dollars. I had this year of cards in my teens in my later years of collecting. It is one of the best designs ever in my opinion. These cards are beautiful. You should buy like 10 boxs of these for the future. I doubt they will be 400 for much longer
This is the set I grew up on so to speak. I really remember collecting this set hard the summer of '83 when I was 12 y.o. I actually think it's one of the more beautiful sets of the 1980s, this one and the '84 Donruss.
Some checklist cards are worth more than the others you get some of those old hockey checklist cards from the 60s and you're talking some pretty good money
I have this case unopened! My dad worked for a company that delivered cards and magazines to stores back in the 70s and 80s! I have many unopened cases! Not just baseball and sport cards! I may do a podcast one day lol! My mom and dad have passed on so I keep these things in boxes!
Love the 1983 baseball cards, still vividly remember picking up packs of TOPPS, Fleer and Donruss at local 7-11 and a few other places. Great memories.
Dale Murphy 398 hrs 1266 rbi 161 sb 121ops+ 46.5 war. Jim Rice 382 hrs 1451 rbi 128ops+ 47.7 war. Murphy 2x MVP 5x G.G. Jim Rice 1x MVP 0x G G. Murphy should be in the HOF
at Murphys peak, he was the best player in baseball for a 5 year period, Rice was never that, as a Dodger fan, saw a lot of Murphy as a kid, I would put him in, i think his last few years maybe could have hurt a bit, don't know, but hoping he gets a shot down the road
Can you please go into stories of how these boxes come about? Like how the company comes up with these boxes older than 30 plus years. I find it fascinating and there must be a bunch of cool stories of where they find these cases and boxes etc. Thanks and I love the channel your bringing the kid back in me or all of us lol!
What gets me is JUST before the first two ad breaks, there's one of the big rookie cards, i've noticed that in a few other videos too. Coincidence, or not? :) Anyway love the video, it's the only one i've watched where i have EVERY SINGLE CARD shown :) I still can't see how Kingman never found a job after '86, who wouldn't want that power in their lineup?? Held the HR record for most in a final season until David Ortiz a few years ago. I mean Big Papi just destroyed individual records for a final season..... most likely won't be broken. Ok now i'm getting suspicious LOL, another Gwynn just at the 3rd ad break :) Then ANOTHER!!!! Amazing
Nice. I would probably grade all 3 Tony Gwynn cards PSA-8. Dale Murphy was my favorite player when I was growing up. He was also A-Rod's favorite player growing up, hence the reason A-Rod wore the number 3 with Seattle and Texas. Dale Murphy hit 398 career home runs and his path to Cooperstown was cursed by two things. He never played in the World Series. Then, when he was up for voting, he was plagued by the juicing (steroid) era in which players started hitting 50+ home runs per year and amassing 500+ career home runs with the help of steroids. So, true clean players like Dale Murphy were cast to the wayside as an afterthought. If you ever catch a game in Atlanta, try to visit his restaurant at the Cobb Galleria named "Murph's". You may actually drop in on a day he is there and get to meet him. He is a class act - the ultimate example of a role model.
I was 12 when these cards came out. They were a blast to open but I always preferred the rack packs and cellos because the wax packs were annoying when they stained the cards and I didn't care much for the gum. Great set that should have had way higher value
I was 8 years old when these came out and I can remember my brother and I ripping many of these gems in that summer of 83. great memories. Thanks for doing this break Erik!
Holy heck what an amazing box. Thank you Erik !
You were hitting Gwynns like Gwynn hit baseballs
Awesome Jonathan happy for you!!!!
Congrats that was amazing
Do you have the Boggs?
Congrats Jonathan H!!!!!!!
Love 83 Topps - my favrorite Topps set since 75. Great video
Love watching you open these older cards. Love the old uniforms!
This is the perfect throwback Thursday for me. I had this whole set back in the day. Thanks so much for sharing. So many great memories here. Feel free to throw a few of these in my Patreon....lol

If you’re ever opening 1983 Topps packs and you want a Tony Gwynn RC, these are the cards to look out for…..
Reggie Smith
Marty Bystrom
Joel Youngblood
Harold Baines
Luis Sanchez
Bruce Sutter
Bobby Mitchell
Joaquin Andujar
Billy Sample
This is one of the best Topps designs. Brings back memories.
and then Topps brought back almost the same dual pics in 1984 except square front portraits, which was not a good year in my opinion.
I love it! This was the first box of cards I ever got. It was a birthday present to me from my dad on my twelfth birthday. It got me into the Hobby and I've never quit.
Every once in a while one of these is really satisfying to watch... this is one of them.
Great video once again! Cannot imagine why people give your videos a thumbs down.
First time I’ve ever seen the Dale Murphy 83 Topps. My all time favorite player. Deserves the HOF.
I didn’t seriously start collecting until 1984 so didn’t get any 83.

great cards!!! I love this series, the action shot plus the close up. '83 and '84 are classic's, thank you for the great video as always sir!
Nothing better than opening a box of vintage baseball cards! 1983 was quite the year!
I've never seen 3 Tony gwynn rookie cards get pulled from one box that's awesome .thanks for sharing
I just love the WEALTH of knowledge you have. You're killing me with these AWESOME obscure insights and raw facts. @18:53 is classic. Thanks for an entertaining show!
"unfortunately"
Holy Cow Erik. I love Boggs but 4 rookies was amazing. Great TBT. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Love the break! Awesome to see the RC's pulled!!! Even sweeter when you pull 3 Gwynn RC!!! Congrats to Jonathan H. Thanks for sharing!!!
Just watching you open this box and seeing those blue packs of baseball cards bring back so many memories for me!! Absolutely love these cards. Second only to 1975 set for me. Great break Erik, thank you.

Absolutely epic break! These cards look so freaking sharp!!!
I enjoyed watching thanks
i buy some bazooka gum to watch these throw back thursdays so i can taste the gum along with watching the cards. full topps experience!
1983 Topps was my first experience with baseball cards at 9 years old.. Seeing them is as nostalgic as anything else in my life. I own the set today
Awesome vid! These were one of my favorites of the '80s. My grandpa gave me the Cardinals set from that year. I was a St. Louis fan after that, lol. Hope your summer was good and good luck this school year!

Can't wait to watch this one. I started buying cards in 1980 when I was 9. The 1983 card design is my favorite.
83 is great!
You are great at this! Love this show!
Love ‘83 Topps design and Love the Ryno RC!! Glad to see one pulled! Along with 3 Gwynn RCs!!! Crazy! Congrats to Jonathan H for 2 of them, if anyone deserves em, it’s him!

I remember opening packs of 80 Topps back in the day. Ricky Henderson rookies. Why didn’t I save a few??😂
i bought numerous boxes of these summer of ‘83, i played that scratch-off game, my friends all ate the gum, i had assembled two 1983 topps sets, had all those great rookies..
I love these so much more than the newer openings.
Like the Lee Smith cards. Louisiana country man and a good guy.
Love the 83 design!!! Thanks Erik for another great video
Topps 1983 is the set of cards I used to play imaginary games with. So mine are mostly beat up! Loved the design of these cards! Have 3 Ryne Sandbergs and Wade Boggs somehow in most likely PSA 7.5-9.
Love 83 design. It's really a bridge from 70s.
All those Tony Gwynn’s! That’s amazing!
Excellent throwback... nice success overall!
I remember as a kid I mowed my parents lawn every weekend for half a year to save $60 so I could buy that Ryne Sandberg rookie from my local card shop. It was magical walking home with that card in my pocket.
2nd year Cal Ripken mvp not bad either. Great set! Thanks!
Moral of the story, when Jabs eats the gum the hits will come.
haha! Love it!
WOW WHAT A BOX OF CARDS SWEET BREAK
Nice Gwynn’s. Looking forward to the next 2 throwbacks
I just inherited like 4 boxes of these and sleeves full of all the top players
3 Gwynn's in ONE BOX!!! INCREDIBLE! My all time favorite player. This was definitely a HOT BOX!!!! TY Erik
Some of the guys who had starting lineups of them made make me chuckle. I'm a Cubs fan and I can't believe Damon berryhill got a starting lineup
Those cards are still a steal even at 400 dollars. I had this year of cards in my teens in my later years of collecting. It is one of the best designs ever in my opinion. These cards are beautiful. You should buy like 10 boxs of these for the future. I doubt they will be 400 for much longer
unbelievable! 😲 great box for sure
Throwback Thursday is so awesome.
What a great break!! I have a permanent smile.
Thank you for another cool break video Jabs.
Very cool 😎 looking forward to seeing what you Cal pull! 👍
My fav Topps card. Beautiful! Those Gwynn!! Congrats Jonathan H!
Every card is mint 10. Wow. Perfectly centered
I was like, "Whaaat!" when Erik pulled back to back Gwynn RCs. Very exciting box break.
Wow! Awesome box.
This is the set I grew up on so to speak. I really remember collecting this set hard the summer of '83 when I was 12 y.o. I actually think it's one of the more beautiful sets of the 1980s, this one and the '84 Donruss.
Back in 1983 as a kid getting his mom to buy these packs....I was proned to getting nothing but commons. This box was legendary.
Amazing box wow! Look forward to the 79 topps, always wanted a box of cards from year I was born so that will be awesome to watch.
Super sweet pulls!!
The Best Box break I've ever watched !!!!!Thank You!!
On Jabs’s tombstone...”Maybe that gum wasn’t so safe.”
Topps is tasty lol.... now 81 donruss gum .... yikes
Surprised no gun left residue
Some checklist cards are worth more than the others you get some of those old hockey checklist cards from the 60s and you're talking some pretty good money
I love the '83 Ryne Sandberg card. As a side note, the '83 Alan Trammell card is beautiful.
Wow! I truly wish I could be as lucky as Johnathan H.
The groovyest episode yet!!!!
At the 25:00 mark you'll notice the Reggie Smith card with a rookie Cub named Sandberg going back to first on a pick off attempt. LOL
Love that tony Gwynn rookie and that ryne sandberg rookie and that set is one of my favorites
Congratulations Jonathan H !
Great box....Thx Jabs
Those cards looks so fresh! Awesome video!!
Awesome looking Gwynn!
Awesome Erik great box
Your videos are great to listen to while I play the show lol
Wow great box!
Very cool! Do you ever follow up with the folks to see if they sent the hits to PSA?
I have this case unopened! My dad worked for a company that delivered cards and magazines to stores back in the 70s and 80s! I have many unopened cases! Not just baseball and sport cards! I may do a podcast one day lol! My mom and dad have passed on so I keep these things in boxes!
Hey Eric you are a huge inspiration thanks for everything you do
That would be fun to open up!
This set brings back so many great memories
Wow!! Nice Sandberg!! 😎💪🏽
Hit the jackpot on the 1983 Topps baseball awesome box
Beautiful looking cards
Oh gosh I miss opening this year. It’s one of my favorites. I was 9
That box looks so amazing wow
Born in ‘78 to me this set is the greatest.
Love the 1983 baseball cards, still vividly remember picking up packs of TOPPS, Fleer and Donruss at local 7-11 and a few other places. Great memories.

What a great box of cards. Looks like we are in 1983. I bet they don't smell like a wet moldy basement either.
Tony Gwynn "mania" that is cool to see. I think I'm biased, I preferred the Ryne Sandberg rookie. Just one persons opinion. 🎉🎉🎉
Wow! Amazingly good box!
I have 2 gwynns and a boggs...but no sandberg! Still need to hit one! Drinking the gum...hahaha Great video!
Awesome box, I definitely need to grab one
It was great to see that you got three Tony Gwynn I feel sorry for that one guy didn't get any of the three rookies
