Even if it starts out flat it will warp over time with weather changes. I’ve had one for like 3-4 years and it started off perfectly flat and now it isn’t. Haven’t had an issue with my seat getting wet though. The issue you *will* have is the seat not being easy to get into the tracks over time. It still works but you have to make it work. I have several kayaks of different makes and this is just part of having a kayak in the sub-$1500 price point
Use a heatgun around the edges of the seat box, then press down a little in the middle to create a drain. I have made a LOT of money reselling kayaks like this
The seat area not draining isn’t a huge deal since I would probably raise the seat like most people are doing. I kind of planned to get more wet with a sit on kayak anyways. But the bottom of kayak being so warped is a little yikes. It still probably doesn’t really affect the performance too much. I found a really good deal on a used one so I’m gonna give it a go. I only plan on using it for lakes without gas motors and get a jon boat for bigger lakes.
I wonder if you could heat it with a heated blanket or pillow just in a local area and push it back into place, but he is correct it is warped which could happen in shipping who knows where it was stored at BPS could have been in very hot area and had other things stacked on it. I highly doubt Ascend allowed that to leave the factory like that.
Who knows if that would have helped. The warpage was prettyyyy bad. And you also never know if they allowed it to leave the factory like that especially since it is a budget BPS kayak. I have found most of my BPS stuff to be pretty meh. Remember to subscribe if you aren’t yet!
Are you hauling it in the bed of a truck because of so that could cause the warping due to the weight of what’s hanging out the back of the truck because mine was perfect and then warped like this I made a slip in support from 2x4s that go down the entire length of the kayak to help alleviate the weight from pulling down on it
I was going to buy one of these used. This weekend. Should I just go with the lifetime tenton.? I was looking at those at docks sporting goods and almost grabbed it.
Honestly, I loved my lifetime Teton, super easy to transport, stable, and durable. Plus you can modify it a good amount. Only downside is you can’t stand on it. The ascend is also very nice but of course larger harder to transport, but you can actually stand on it, plus more storage. I loved the ascend but since I was planning on upgrading to a pdl which I just got a sportsman 130pdl. So it made more aense for me to get a budget kayak until I upgraded.
It's basically a bath tub. Actually look at an Old Towne or Hobie compared to this "kayak". You get what you pay for. My buddy can't go out on the ocean on his, so I'm the Lone Ranger on those trips. Its basically a mini john boat that takes on water easily. Sorry for telling the truth.

Thanks for your comment! That makes sense. I decided to stick with my budget lofetime teton kayak and save up for an old town sportsman

I have had my 12t for 5 years now and put it through absolute hell. Still holding up fine.
That is great! Seems like a solid kayak if you can get one that is in good shape when purchased.
I've actually warped a kayak but carrying on the roof in extreme heat and the roof rack rails formed "dents" I now use a trailer
Oof, I transport my old town on my roof. I’ll have to grab a trailer soon!

Forsure yea dude! I personally can’t spend the money on a kayak in this condition. I hope you like it. Remember to subscribe if you aren’t yet!
Just brought one home TODAY. Will check it more closely tomorrow! lol
Forsure dude yea that was my only complaint! I hope it is in good shape for you!
Wouldn’t it drain properly when you’re sitting in it???
No, I got my ass soaked when I went out on it.

Nope, car top. There was no reason this kayak should have warped honestly.
If you are in Northern Illinois check out Rocktown Adventures in Rockford.
I’m in Wisconsin but I’ll look into it!

Thks so much for the information
You are welcome, I am glad the video helped!

THANK YOU!
You got it! I don’t want anyone else getting a bad kayak

That is why I have an OldTown Sportsman 120 PDL now! Absolutely love it!
Remember kayaks a plastic...its going to happen! Plus for the price point, well under 1000! Itll happen with the next 12t you get!
This kayak came warped BRAND NEW. Yes it will happen to low price kayaks which is why I got an Old Town!
Was just going to buy one on ebay. I think I'll pass on it.
Good choice, get an Old Town!
