Grubby "Is that the end?!"
Fae Slinger " yes"
Ssethtzeentach did a great review of this game. It's definitely a gem
ah a classic. Lots of interesting choices. I like how the dark elves were a cavalry unit for the Dwarves; since the dwarves gave them shelter when they were chased out by the surface elves
Wow, never knew the lore behind why some cavalry models were shared between faiths
This is my second favorite game right behind ff7! So glad there are others that remember this masterpiece!!! Also I am not positive but based on both games Total Warhammer three takes a lot of inspiration from this game!
One of my favorite all time games, still play it to this day! The combat really benefits from using pause in combat to overcome the Jank, but yea its pretty jank and you sort of need to understand some unintuitive rules and ui.. Auto-calc gets less op at higher levels. Its really fun, even now, it has a lot of mechanical depth and an awesome vibe. If you take the time to get it figured out its really worth it, at least it was for me. thanks for playing!
In overland it's pretty important in this game to scout around with a weak but fast unit separately from your main force. For Air that unit is the eagles.
In combat it's important to select a high stat unit, click defend and then target itself in order to make it parry attacks with its weapon. Air has additional complexity as it has flying units to fly over terrain.
A bit more depth around the high defense meta:
The Berserk command is useful for breaking through high defense while sacrificing your own if your unit is not being targeted anyway.
The aimed shot command is useful for piercing through high defense while sacrificing attack speed.
What's the point of even mentioning "the meta" in a game like this? Try different things and have fun. I beat this game loads of times back in the day as a kid without knowing about parrying
@@willmannn mentioning it as a take it or leave it based on your own interests, we all like to play different ways, a bit of discussion never hurts
this is my favorite 4x game. it's definitely rough around the edges, and it's unfortunate that "optimal play" involves cheesing long fights. but everything else about it is incredible.
OMG I miss this game so much!
I remember this game! Death is the strongest
holy fuck i never thought id see this game ever again i spent soooo many hours on this back in the day i seen the thumbnail and got literal chills i loved this game so much i didnt even remember the name it was so long ago
Dude i freaking heard that "my spells await" and got a flashback, i think i played this game before
Oh wow, forgot about this game - very cool Grubby!
I love this game. And it would be amazing with a Lords of Magic 2.
A hobby project released a cool touch-up/balancing mod for this game though.
Love this game so much!
I used to love this game but didn't know what the hell was going on 😂
I remember playing this!
If you like Shandalar, check out the fan game Mtg Forge. It has an adventure mode that is great and people say is similar to Shandalar (which I've not played).
one of the best games of all time is heroes of might and magic 3
I bought that game back in the day.
Still have the disc if anyone needs it ;)
Unfortunatley my Starcraft WOL discs where stolen from college :(
